Nomadic camping
Best for self-contained campers. There are no toilets, showers, or potable water at this Hipcamp.
For primitive campers looking for a quiet getaway without water or electrical hookups, this wooded lot offers a scenic view of the marsh. Located near the 4,000-acre Botany Bay Wildlife Management Area, this is a prime spot for birders, wildlife enthusiasts, and cyclists in the spring, fall, and winter. The location is only seven miles from the restaurants and grocery stores of Edisto Beach. Edisto Beach is a unique barrier island with no stoplights, hotels, or big chain stores. Edisto Island itself is home to a vibrant Gullah community, fresh produce, and local seafood. The Historic Hutchinson House is even your neighbor. Please remember to pack in and pack out everything you need and only have fires in the designated fire pit when there isn’t a fire ban. No amplified sound equipment ie no speakers please. While there is 2.5 acres of property, it is 37’ wide and over 1000’ long. So you may see neighbors in the travel trailer next door. They don’t live there, but sometimes visit. Because the property is long and narrow, there is plenty of room to adjust your campsite for privacy. 7622 on a white sign on a tree by the driveway. There is no lighting so please try to check in before sunset. In warm weather there are mosquitoes and gnats- be prepared. Our peaceful camp looks across to a wide open salt marsh view as seen in the photos. It is for primitive camping only (pack in/pack out). It has a gravel/dirt road leading to a gravel (shell sand) parking pad. Tents can be placed anywhere on the property. Guests can enjoy the narrow 2 acre lots that is open for walking and backed by a shallow canal dug in the 1700's. There are homes nearby so we are looking for quiet, peaceful people who will respect the quiet nature of the area. Deer, turkey, otters and other wildlife visit the property. Do NOT let dogs swim in the canal as it could have alligators. Great for access to Botany Bay Wildlife Management Area, Edisto Beach and the Historic Hutchinson House property.
