The property has been in the Monge family since the late 1940's bought by Jose Monge Marquez. The campsite is located in a private property in the outskirts of El Yunque Rainforest in the town of Luquillo. The campsite areas and facilities are about 8 out of 43 acres of all the private property of rainforest, flowers, palm trees, and various fruit trees. The Sabana River, one of many that originate from El Yunque National Rainforest, the river goes through the property. All the campsites are close by the river with each having their own access and individual fire pits. The local attractions are: -El Yunque National Rainforest 15 minute drive up the mountain. -Las Paylas rockslides (2 minute drive & 8 minutes walking). -The Luquillo beaches which are La Pared, Playa Azul, Barneario de Luquillo. Los Kioskos de Luquillo, ect. (10 minutes drive). We look forward to hosting you!

The campsite is located in a private property in the outskirts of El Yunque Rainforest in the town of Luquillo. The campsites areas and facilities are about 5 acres out of 30 acres of all the private property of rainforest, flowers, palm trees, various fruit trees and the Sabana River one of many that originate from El Yunque National Rainforest goes through the property. All the campsites are close by the river with their own access and everyone with there own fire pit. The local attractions are: -El Yunque National Rainforest (15 minute drive up the mountain) -Las Paylas rockslides (2 minute drive, 10 minutes walking) -Luquillo beaches which are La Pared, Playa Azul, Barneario de Luquillo, Los Kioskos de Luquillo, ect. (10 minutes drive)

The tree tent campsite is located 50 feet nearby the Sabana River where all our guests can enjoy the water. If you’re looking for a secluded, off-the-beaten-path spot, this location definitely delivers—but be prepared. The road getting there is not suitable for a regular car. You’ll really need a 4x4 vehicle, or you risk bottoming out on potholes, deep ruts, and large rocks along the way. The drive in was honestly pretty stressful. There’s a very narrow bridge that felt a bit scary to cross, and at one point we almost got stuck trying to get out. Our van struggled going uphill—we were spinning tires before finally making it out. After that experience, we headed toward the El Yunque National Forest for our hike, which was beautiful—but I have to admit, my heart was racing for a while after the drive. Overall, it’s a unique and remote place, but I’d strongly recommend coming prepared with the right vehicle and a bit of confidence driving rough terrain. Definitely an adventure—welcome to Puerto Rico!

Great spot 15 minute drive away from el yunque hiking trails. we had camp site La Piedra which was right by the river stream. Electricty, hot water, and charging box were not expected but very much appreciated. Prepare for heavy rain during the nights.

Beautiful campsites overlooking the river. All very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was equipped and the showers spacious. The host was super welcoming and attentive. Overall great experience. This was my second time camping there, won't be the last!

La experiencia en general fue buena ya que el grupo tiene experiencia de camping y los accesorios necesario. El área que nos tocó es bastante reservada y con sombra. Para personas que estén empezando y quieran tener su primera experiencia no sería ideal ya que el área completa está a oscuras, las facilidades de baño y lavamanos quedan lejos. El río borda toda la finca por lo que duermes con el sonido del río toda la noche!

This is the second year we return for a group camping! This place is hard to beat! Nature is wonderful, sites are perfect and it’s close to so many fun things! The host is great! We had a group of more than 20 and everyone left in love! We will be back for sure!

I recently moved to Puerto Rico from Maryland where I was an avid camper for years. I was excited to find Gerardo's camp grounds! My first camping trip in Puerto was AMAZING! In my excitement I set up at wrong site and had to relocate to another site. I went from one beautiful site to a more beautiful site! The facility was well maintained and clean. Gerardo was prompt and helpful. I cant wait until my next visit.

Me encantó nuestra experiencia acampando en Hacienda Monte Rey. Dormir con el sonido del río fue simplemente mágico — una de esas noches que te desconectan por completo y te hacen sentir en plena armonía con la naturaleza. El lugar está precioso, bien cuidado y con áreas limpias. Además, cuentan con baño, lo cual hace la estadía mucho más cómoda. Sin duda, un spot perfecto para relajarse, disfrutar y querer volver.

Awesome campsite, relatively secluded, the creek and coqui and bug sounds can get loud at night but it was great. Very fun to explore flora and fauna in the area. Definitely check out the natural water slides that are about 15 min walk from the campsite. Be aware that it will definitely rain at least a few times during your stay. We tried to hang some towels to dry but that was pointless. Communication with the host and the check in were fast and easily available. Highly recommend!

Amplio espacio, cerca del río, pero a una altura segura. Rodeado de árboles y vegetación. Un pedazo de paraíso en la tierra. Cuenta con un área de servicios sanitarios, duchas con agua caliente. No hay electricidad, ni agua potable en el área de acampar, y mucho menos señal de Wifi. Es desconectarse del mundo y conectarse con la naturaleza.

My wife and I camp quite a bit, and this was probably our favorite spot. We may have gotten lucky with it being off season, but the campsite was very secluded. We camped out of our van and were able to back up right to the river and listen to the babbling water all night. Only 8 minutes from town. The hikes in Yunque national forest are incredible.

Secluded camping near El Yunque

They went out of their way to make sure we had a safe place to park our 22ft camper van, even letting us in after regular hours, after all our other overnight camping options had fallen through. Great communication and a nice spot in the jungle next to running water and plenty of coquis to sing us to sleep. Will definitely consider coming back for more than just an overnight stay next time!

Es un lugar hermoso. El área de acampar está bastante bien organizada. Lo único que solo tiene 1 inodoro, dos duchas y un lava manos. En adición están bien apartados del área de acampar. La entrada se pone dificultosa para entrar y salir si está lloviendo.

We drove a camper van to the location & the host was very accommodating to what we needed for the van. Its a very steep drive so caution when getting there. But sleeping in the forest with the coqui’s and water right next to us was so magical to wake up to!
