Secluded camping near El Yunque

They went out of their way to make sure we had a safe place to park our 22ft camper van, even letting us in after regular hours, after all our other overnight camping options had fallen through. Great communication and a nice spot in the jungle next to running water and plenty of coquis to sing us to sleep. Will definitely consider coming back for more than just an overnight stay next time!

Es un lugar hermoso. El área de acampar está bastante bien organizada. Lo único que solo tiene 1 inodoro, dos duchas y un lava manos. En adición están bien apartados del área de acampar. La entrada se pone dificultosa para entrar y salir si está lloviendo.

We drove a camper van to the location & the host was very accommodating to what we needed for the van. Its a very steep drive so caution when getting there. But sleeping in the forest with the coqui’s and water right next to us was so magical to wake up to!

This was our second time camping at Hacienda Monterrey in Luquillo, Puerto Rico, and it’s quickly become one of our favorite places. It’s easy to get to from the main road, but once you’re there, it feels like a peaceful escape into nature.
One of the things that makes this place stand out is the host, Gerardo. He’s incredibly kind and attentive — both times we’ve stayed, he personally came by to make sure everything was in order and that we were comfortable. That kind of hospitality really goes a long way and makes the experience even more special.
The campground is simple and clean, with no electricity, which actually adds to the relaxing, unplugged vibe. It does have clean restrooms and hot showers, which we really appreciated. Toilet paper is provided (a small detail, but super helpful!), and parking is available and conveniently close.
My 9-year-old son told me this is his favorite place in the world right now, and he’s already asking to go back. As a parent, there’s no better review than that.
We’ll definitely be returning. If you’re looking for a quiet, family-friendly spot to connect with nature, Hacienda Monterrey is a hidden gem worth discovering.

It was a great experience. The river was beautiful and we explored a lot! Got connected with nature! Good place too relax and have a good time. We brought our own stuff like shower, water, solar lights and a bathroom so we didn’t used the facilities but I will definitely recommend if you want to camp outside bring all your stuff. and If you brought your tent definitely bring a mat or a comforter so u can sleep comfortably in the ground.

Our stay at Hacienda Monte Rey campground was amazing! The host was very attentive and helped us with all our requests to ensure our stay would be enjoyable and fun. We stayed at Las Heliconias campsite which was very close to the river. The bathroom and shower areas were clean and well stocked. The place is very peaceful and we can hear the sounds of many birds and of el Coqui. We ended up renting the bbq grill with the utensils and were able to cook during our stay. The location is perfect, located in the rainforest and close enough to the “civilization.” It’s very close from El Yunque and from the main roads. For e.g. in one of the mornings we decided to get a takeout from El Mesón Sandwichs for breakfast and that took about 15 min to get there.

Excellent camping spot. The terrain was leveled, clean, private and comfortable to set up all equipment and gear. Very easy to access and clear directions. Other camping sites, although adjacent, do not interfere with our privacy. Location could get heavy rain as it is a 1 minute drive to the Yunque rainforest gate.
Plan bathroom/shower trips as it could get crowded.
In conclusion - excellent experience. Will most definitely return.

This was such a unique and fun experience! Definitely make sure suitcases and things are put away before you sleep- it poured on us a lot of the night! Luckily, the tent stayed completely waterproof and the sound of the rain was really cool.

Excellent camping experience at La Piedra site, 14 people w/ 5 cars. I will repeat the exercise at the same site because the amount of persons/ tents and cars.

Excelente lugar, muy limpio, todo muy accesible. Gerardo siempre nos recibe, el trato spectacular y el siempre está al alcance. Lugar tiene baño y duchas, todo siempre limpio y organizado. El río espectacular. Si puede quedarse, no lo pienses. Es nuestra segunda ves que nos quedamos y Volveremos!

El lugar es muy bonito pero no tienen control. Tienen reglas de uso pero nadie pendiente de que se cumplan. En la noche teníamos unas personas acampando cerca con música fuerte y fumando, no nos dejaron dormir hasta las 2:30 am pq mi novio les tuvo q llamar la atención, arriesgando su seguridad. Fue horrible, nos comunicamos con la persona contacto y nunca nos respondió y no hicieron nada. Perdimos el dinero y el tiempo que habíamos separado en familia.

Amazing place to camp near El Yunque!
Very quiet and peaceful next to a beautiful stream that led all the way to a water hole we could swim in. Host was super helpful and informative, bathrooms were super clean. Would definitely stay here again!
