Just got back from an amazing stay at this campsite. The views were absolutely stunning, and the amenities made everything super comfortable. The surrounding area had everything we needed close by, which made the trip even easier. On top of that, the host was fantastic—friendly, helpful, and made us feel right at home. Definitely a spot I’d come back to!

This was indeed a gorgeous spot. I loved the trails around the area and the relative ease of getting to the location. Very peaceful and private. Bathroom with running water was nearby; no working shower (or at least I couldn't find it in the dark).

Audra was really responsive and easy to contact.
The view is amazing and the site is really well maintained with outdoor furnitures and a little firepit. There is a little house with a terrace and they're building a bathroom and a shower under. It will be perfect for the summer when finish.
We were able to use the restroom and shower (hot water, a luxe ☺️) at the pavilion.m down the hill.
We definitely will come back in the summer to enjoy everything!

I can’t say enough great things about our stay at White Squirrel Overlook! The views were absolutely breathtaking, and there was so much space to stretch out and unwind. We were in town for a dog sporting event, and it was such a gift to return each day to a hot, sparkling-clean shower after competing. Audra was wonderful to communicate with—friendly, responsive, and welcoming. We’re already looking forward to booking our next stay!

Absolutely incredible site! Amazing views, very private, convenient facilities located nearby. Nice to have a spot to hang out and play games if it rains. Really enjoyed the lookout platform as well. There's a bathroom in shower being finished on site as well that will be super nice to have. Saw a deer in the fields each day we were there. Host was very responsive and helpful! We will definitely be back!

Incredible! We stayed here for my husband’s birthday and were completely blown away….the views are just breathtaking. Audra was very responsive whenever we messaged her and you can tell that they have put a lot of time, money and thought into the setup, including the pavilion at the base of the hill and the new upcoming bathrooms at the campsite. There is also a rooftop deck for even more spectacular views!
My husband and I brought our paddle boards and paddled on the river all day (just a three minute drive from the site). Then we came back and enjoyed dinner at our campsite :) In the morning a thunderstorm came through, which we thoroughly enjoyed watching, while sipping coffee from inside our van. Thank you so much for offering this to the public. We will absolutely be coming back!

Beautiful views and solitude. Clean bathrooms. Super accommodating host even though I was a last minute booking. I had a great time and slept like a baby. Wasn’t up to cooking but there’s a great little restaurant down the road called Fire & Ice that does take out smoked meats.!! You get what you pay for - and this is very high end camping. I felt safe staying here as a solo female traveler.

Overall great private camping spot! Perfect for bringing the dog as well. We ate at Fire and Ice Smokehouse and Creamery and it was incredible!
Only downside is, in my opinion, the price is a little high for a camp site, but for me it was well worth it to have the private site for my dogs first camping trip.

White Squirrel Overlook
This property is simply beautiful, such gorgeous views. We loved watching sunsets by the fire and how private this campsite is. We truly enjoyed our stay and will definitely return again soon. Audra is really easy to work with and so friendly and welcoming. She was very informative and helpful and made herself available if needed. The bath house was a short walk down a hill and very clean. It was great having access to a flushing toilet and hot shower. We played some basketball at the pavilion which was really fun. Overall, I highly recommend this site!

This spot definitely exceeded expectation. The view is ridiculous...pictures just don't do it justice. Pavilion access allowed for very nice facilities as well as baseball and basketball for the kids. Fishing at Fort Halifax was easily doable and Lake Tobias is just down the road. We certainly plan on a return visit down the road

This is the most incredible site I have booked on Hipcamp (so far). The 360° views are absolutely breathtaking. No photo could ever do it justice. That said, having the amazing views also means that the site is exposed. Make sure to be prepared to secure your gear/tent down well if any wind is forecasted. I used a hot tent setup over the holidays and had an amazing time with my pup. Having a heated shower and bathroom available was a great amenity. 4 wheel drive would be recommended. I have a 2WD Honda Civic. While I able to make it up to the site, I could foresee having issues in bad weather. Audra was an amazing host and quick to respond. I will definitely be recommending this place to others and hope to return soon!

White Squirrel Overlook
White Squirrel Overlook is an amazing addition to the Hipcamp community. Located in the rural hills of Halifax, PA, the camp site sits atop the peak of a hill, offering guests a uninterrupted 360 degree view of the countryside and the mighty Susquehanna River. Getting to the campsite can be tricky in adverse weather conditions without 4WD, as the path leading to the site is up a steep, unpaved grade.
White Squirrel Overlook has a few amenities available to guests that make the camping experience unique. The site has a pergola-eque structure that offers shade and cover from bad weather. Along with that, 4 hammock chairs are affixed to the structure facing the Susquehanna that were wonderful to swing in while taking in the views. The site does not allow ground camp fires at this time, however they provide a smokeless fire pit that does the job. Adjacent to the overlook, White Squirrel has a large event pavilion that campers are allowed to use. The complex is about a 5 minute walk down the hill and is complete with clean bathroom facilities, hot showers, a fully functional kitchen and basketball/pickleball court and baseball diamond.
Overall, if you and your camping buddies are looking for a secluded weekend away with all the creature comforts of a state run camp site, White Squirrel is the perfect fit! Bonus points for the excellent communication and hospitality that Audra provided throughout our stay. It definitely made our trip that much more enjoyable :)

White Squirrel Overlook
The views from the campsite were incredible, especially the sunset over the river and the morning mist. The kitchen was spacious, the bathroom was clean, and the woods for campfire were conveniently right by the bathroom. We had a thunderstorm during our stay, and found that the area can get quite windy at times. I recommend using strong stakes for your tent. Audra was super easy to communicate with and very helpful. I’d definitely love to come back!

Excellent as always! Bathrooms were clean and smelled great, grass mowed and the view spectacular.
The “road” felt more like a road now that there has been more traffic to the site and I did not think it was as rough in a a non-4 wheel drive this visit.

Absolutely amazing spot!! Located on top of a hill, in the middle of a field, you’ll find yourself speechless as you crest the top of the mowed pathway to find amazing views of mountains and river from high atop. 360 degree views will demand your attention! Sit back and relax as the sun sets directly in front of you over the mountain tops. I was completely taken by this spot. I had no idea it was going to be so peaceful and beautiful. If your in this area, or even if your not, make your way here and take advantage of it! I’m definitely coming back, and you should too!! I can’t say enough good things about it! Awesome!

An excellent evening! We were only able to spend one night due to weather, so we decided to take my 5-year old nephew on his first camping trip. It was a great first experience for him. Pristine bathrooms an easy walk away, amazing views, deer running through our camp, solar lights to keep the area warmly lit overnight, and even a fireworks show at Fort Halifax! Can’t wait to go back.

I loved the tent camping site at White Squirrel. It left us with a beautiful sunset and sunrise in Halifax and the views of the river and surrounding towns were amazing. It also had other conveniences like a bathroom and a shower plus a basketball court. Audra was a great host as well with fantastic communication and helping us with all our needs and questions. I would highly recommend staying here and will book it again.

The White Squirrel Campsite is a circular, breathtaking, hilltop patch of mowed grass, surrounded by wheat that's four feet tall (in mid July at least), nestled high above the Susquehanna River, close by the Appalachian Trail, and less than thirty minutes from the state capital!
This land is invigorating, whether you'd like to frolic and reconnect with nature or cook s'mores around a campfire with your family (when there's not a fire ban in effect, only you can prevent wildfires!), the land is versatile and can fit all your needs. This is by far the most beautiful place that I've slept outside in, in the state of PA.
My favorite part of my time on this land was the view - it is nearly 360 degrees of clear skyline to the mountains. I was able to see both the sunrise and the sunset from this campsite, that's rare! Of course also a beautiful view of the river.
I drove with ease (although it required a bit of gusto) to the site in a two wheel drive, manual, Nissan Juke. There's both chunky rock gravel and mowed wild land that you will need to traverse, but nothing outrageous and all passable.
Audra is the friendliest and most informative Hipcamp host I've had the pleasure of interacting with. She is a great host and incredibly kind. You won't be wondering for directions or have any uncertainties on her property. I felt entirely safe and secluded at this site.
I look forward to camping here again - this land is the destination and I will be back. Thank you Audra!!!
