Camping at the Gurnsey Farmstead was a wonderful escape from everyday life and the location is a tiny gem hidden in western Pennsylvania. The host (Kate) was extremely friendly and welcoming. She was more than happy to show us around her farm and introduce us to the numerous friendly farm animals. While we expected simply to camp and hike, the friendly goats, cats, chickens, bunnies, pigs, and geese stole a considerable amount of our attention - feeding time was particularly fun to watch/participate in.
There is plenty of ground to hike and explore and numerous bodies of water, one of which is a mineral laden and eerily yet beautiful blue (check out the pictures). The weekend we went was particularly cold, but in warmer months the larger pond is available for swimming.
My partner and I set up our tent in front of a small pond and enjoyed the wildlife, sunset, and a nice fire as the sun went down.
I highly recommend this location for small getaways, ESPECIALLY for families with children (the farm animals are super captivating). The host is very knowledgeable, amenable, and has a great sense of humor. 5 out of 5 stars.
