Nederlandia is the name of the overall parcel of land in which the main center camp, Camp Snot Otter (see our other listing under this name) is located. Nederlandia has 4 designated campsites or campers can create new campsites with direction from the owner. We provide the basic flat set up for tents and a fire pit. The land is an elongated forested strip between deep woods and a wide open field so it is very appealing to a variety of wildlife. The land has trails, wetlands, small creeks, beautiful trees, and plenty of shade on the hot Summer days while having access to a wide open field for stargazing at night. There is a nice central camp with a makeshift nature center, a large fire pit, cooking supplies and often live music.. Nearby attractions include the Erie National Wildlife Refuge, The French Creek Conservancy, Allegheny College, Woodcock Creek Nature Center, the Tamarack Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, Conneaut Lake, Hiking, horseback riding and kayaking within 10 minutes, and the super fun Venango General Store nearby. Kayaking packages are available for a 12 mile day trip. The camp is also close to a grocery store, a hardware store, an ice cream shop, and a couple rural restaurants. Campers may be allowed to gather their own dry deadfall for firewood, but good oak and cherry cooking wood will be available to purchase at center camp. With a bit of guidance from the staff, some campers may be permitted to blaze their own inroads into the woods and create their own camp legacy. Center camp is the central hub for everything you need. We have an information board with maps, current updates and info on goings on. We also have menus for pizza and local restaurants that will actually deliver to the land.. We always have coffee going in the morning and a luxury setting for a truly natural morning constitution (as long as you help to escort your creation to a staff appointed generally fertilizer deficient disposal designation). Also available for purchase or to barter for at center camp include water, toiletries,, batteries, tools for rent, and some basic cooking ingredients. Ask and we shall try our best to hook you up. Nederlandia is in the very formation stage of a potential small scale absurd culture festival with roots in Burning Man and The Electric Forest. Campers are encouraged to participate, to create spaces, and leave only works of natural art that may be aesthetically pleasing, but also beneficial to wildlife, at their sites. Wild things in wild places can happen here and many new friends can be made in the process. There is always a core staff person on site, and often a crew of hicks, skids, jocks, spiritual guides, (no degens), and musicians there every day from May to October to provide sharing, transportation, information and other basic necessities and entertainments. In the Winter, we have a very cozy cabin with a fireplace, wood stove, kitchen and generator for extra heat and light. Nederlandia is committed to wildlife conservation and education. Some of the proceeds from hosting campsites will go towards local conservation initiatives. Campers here can learn about local natural history and be immersed in the wildlife around them. We have incredible frog choruses going throughout the Spring and Summer. Our species count on the land is now somewhere in the 300s including an informal trapping study of insects last year that yielded a great number of cool bugs, but surprisingly few mosquitos. The one thing people have always said about camping here is that the mosquitos are not bad at all. We have a pond with turtles and frogs, tons of salamanders and harmless snakes. We've seen porcupine, mink, flying squirrels, and we still have a decent bat population around here. Birdwatching is a constant new surprise. There is almost always one or more dogs present here, of course. But I must also disclose, there are definitely signs of Sasquatch migrating through the back bush. Fun is our campsite concept and if we have our druthers, we can start to do themed parties around major dates and holidays, especially a grand Halloween party! We have already planted all the pumpkins for this year. Looking forward to hanging out with you guys!

Camp Snot Otter...(Let me finish)...is a theme camp and natural preserve named after the slang for the giant Hellbender (Cryptobranchus allegheniensis) that lives in nearby French Creek. It is one of the largest salamanders in the world and the Pennsylvania State Amphibian.  Locally, it is also known as the Allegheny Alligator.  It;s actually only sort of gross, but it's very, very cool. The property has been in our family since 1827. Camp Snot Otter is the capital of Nederlandia (see our other listing under that name). Ned was a great camp host. The directions were clear to get to his property. The area was very shaded and comfortable. There is no water access on the property, either for swimming or drinking water.

WOW! what a cool campsite!! Ned was an absolute sweetheart and helped my crew out so much! We felt super safe and comfortable the whole night we stayed. Hearing the peepers in the pond at center camp was the icing on the cake. I would love to make it back out for a longer trip! Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for a cozy cool and casual camping vibe with some lovely folks 😁

Don’t miss a stay at Nederlandia

Ned was a truly wonderful host. His property is really beautiful and he has a great setup for campers. We went to see the total solar eclipse and stayed here for a couple nights, and during the event itself. I’m not sure if a time will come again where that many people are camping there but what I am sure of is that you will love meeting Ned and staying in this lovely patch of forest. Ned was welcoming, kind, and fun - while still being totally respectful of the amount of social interaction each group wanted. He welcomed all to an evening communal campfire or morning coffee, to explore his property at will, or to not participate in any activity if that’s what they wished. TLDR: don’t pass this site up. Ned is kind and a great host.

Had a great time camping on Ned's land for the total eclipse. Had plenty of privacy and Ned was hospitable and you could tell he would do what he can to help you have a nice visit.

Very chill campground & next to the field was a cool experience. Ned is a nice guy and gives off positive vibes. Helpful that he checks and makes sure you have everything you need. Would recommend. 3 adults and 2 children had a great camping trip at Ned's land.

My family went tent camping on Ned’s property for the solar eclipse and he was so accommodating! We made our own little spot easily. He had hot coffee made in the morning; that was a blessing to my mom and husband. The location was beautiful. Would definitely recommend for families or solo travelers alike.

Ned was friendly and helpful from the first greeting. He had some equipment on hand to make setup and our stay easier....like the outhouse I needed the second we arrived and a warm cup of coffee before I could get the fire started in the AM. The property was clean, beautiful and private, despite several other families on site for the total eclipse we were there to experience. Very highly recommend a stay here. We had a great time at Camp Snot Otter (plus, its fun to say!)

Ned was a wonderful host and the land was exactly what we needed! We came for the solar eclipse, and ended up viewing with a wonderful group of the rest of the campers. There’s several primitive camping spots to choose from depending on what you’re looking for. He’s got all the basics there at center camp if you need anything in a pinch, including a hot pot of coffee in the morning. There’s lots of room to hike the land, plus more to explore in the area, including a few cute small towns just minutes away. Ned was so friendly, welcoming, and accommodating to everyone, including kids and dogs. He was very communicative and answered all our questions leading up to our stay. The terrain was unexpectedly very muddy from a week straight of rain, so he personally transported everyone to their campsite if their car couldn’t make it. Ned is an animal lover and reptile expert, so he’s always willing to chat about all the species you’ll find on the land (over 300 so far!) All in all, it was a great experience, and we’ll definitely stay there again if we’re planning to come to the area!

Quiet, peaceful, farm adjacent camp

I had a great experience camping on Ned’s property. The site was easy to find and his communication and directions were superb. I was a late arrival and early departure, but did get to enjoy peaceful and private camping nestled in the woods adjacent to expansive farmland. Would love to stay again when my travels take me through the area!

We really enjoyed our stay! Ned is a great host and was very kind. The land is beautiful and our spot was very secluded! We were able to get our 24ft rv here no problem. Another bonus was the great reception at this spot, we both had 4 bars of LTE for Verizon & T-Mobile! We would definitely back!!thank you!

Great spot to set up a tent if you're in the area! Ned was not available this time so we had the place to ourself but we loved cooking by his lovely little frog pond. Very quiet and heavily wooded and covered in ferns and mosses, I would love to return one day!

We loved Ned's land. It was so quiet despite being off a main road. The access road has some sites right off of it and there are a handful you can hike in to. Danny was our host and he and his dog Myla hiked with us all over the property. Danny was super informative and was able to show us an old well, one of the only American Chestnut trees in the area and let us know about things Ned will be doing on the property in the future. It was to cold and snowy to see any snakes or salamanders so we will definitely be going back later in the year! Oh and bring your hammocks, you'll definitely find a place to hang and relax.

A quiet spot in the woods, to set up a tent or pull in a camper. A fire ring of rocks. There is even a walk-in spot. A great way to skip the crowds. An hours drive from the beaches at Presque Isle. Woodcock Creek Lake, a lake with swim beach and boating only a couple of miles away. Quaint town with restaurants nearby. Bring your own water, use the woods, leave no trace. Be sure to call or text Ned ahead of time to let him know when you are arriving and what kind of spot you want. Gate closed after 8pm. You might try calling even if online booking system does not offer the days you want. I was the only camper. A few friends and family hanging out at main camp, a friendly scene. They will help out, make you feel welcome. A rutted road, high clearance vehicle best.

Fabulous camping!

My family and I needed a last minute place to stay after our first camping spot turned out poorly. I reached out to Ned and he was incredibly responsive and SO helpful! He was able to provide us with a beautiful place to tent camp with our kids. It was peaceful and private...just what we all needed. Ned was a fabulous host and we can't wait to camp at Nederlania again!!

Secluded relaxing time

I would most definitely recommend this place. Ned was a great host. Communication was fast and helpful. I told him I wanted a secluded spot and that I had a camper van with an awning and he made sure I had a nice wooded spot I could pull in. It was a very rainy week prior to my stay but my camp site was not muddy. And like he stated, very few mosquitos...actually I never saw one. He also welcomed my two traveling cats and they had no issues. Also got wood from him that was nice and dry and burned well. I will definitely come again!

Great "self-contained" camping spot

If you are prepared for a "dispersed" or "self-contained" camping experience, you'll have a great time. Ned and Danny were great hosts. The turn onto the property is a bit tricky to find, but its a secluded and cozy spot. When arrived in our truck camper Danny helped us find a good spot and level it. He had a fire going and we cooked hot dogs, beans and s'mores. He and his dog had our kids giggling like crazy. In the morning Ned arrived and showed the girls two snakes he was releasing in the pond, as well as the frogs and turtles that live in it. Its a great little spot and I hope we get back there. I'm looking forward to seeing how Ned and Danny develop the camp over time.
