Chiques Rock Base Camp
We had such a great stay at Chiques Rock Base Camp! The host was very friendly and accommodating, and the site itself was clean, well-kept, and thoughtfully maintained. I especially appreciated how clean the porta potty was (and I liked that they keep it locked when the site isn’t rented).
The location is perfect—right at the start of the biking trail. I can see why some reviewers mentioned the nearby traffic and train noise, but it honestly didn’t bother my sleep at all. My daughter and I loved walking down to the creek to splash around, which was a highlight of our trip.
The campsite had plenty of picnic tables, more than enough firewood, and a great overall setup. Bugs weren’t too bad, which was a nice bonus! I’d definitely recommend bringing bikes to enjoy the trail fully.
We will absolutely be returning—this is a wonderful spot for camping, relaxing, and making memories.

Nice site with a porta potty, fire pit with plenty of firewood (cooking grate) and picnic table. Also plenty of seating near the firepit. Close to plenty of stores like dollar general, sheetsz, rutters and pizza nearby. Parking is very close to the site. Our dog was very happy off leash at this site.
CONS mosquitos, no electricity and road noise. Id recommend bringing ear plugs for the noise.

Campsite was perfect for our 1-night meetup. Great fire pit and setup. You are near a busy road, with traffic noise. There is a great trail that runs right next to the campsite which is ideal for a quick hike.

Extremely convenient location as I was on a bike touring trip including the river trail. Read the other reviews about noise from the nearby main road and railroad. I brought earplugs and slept like a rock. Was a little damp from recent fierce rains, so don't forget bug repellant.

It was a cool stay! It’s very close to the road. Somewhat awkward, not good for light sleepers on the one site. Free bikes though and wood!

Outstanding hosts and location. Had an amazing time. Great set up with provided wood.
Bring earplugs for the noise if you are a light sleeper. They did the trick for me.
Will definitely repeat. Excellent couple days.

The location right on the bike trail was nice. It does get a little noisy during the day. Plenty of fire wood and a nice fire pit. Very spacious.

We had a great time camping at Chiques Rock base camp. Renee was very welcoming, helpful and hospitable. Camp right on the trail making for easy access for biking, hiking, rock climbing, and river activities. Also within close proximity to 2 towns for anything you may need. Also 2 great overlooks for extraordinary sunsets.

Nice little spot next to the local trails. We were the only campers that night, which was a plus. One wheel accessible. We took a fun walk down by the river. The train and road are nearby, but that didn’t phase us much.

Couldn't ask for anything more then this beautiful campsite. Came with plenty of cut firewood, clean Porta potty, ample shade. Close walk to the river and creek. Site is in the cut, probably 60 yards or so from the main trail. Some bugs but you gotta expect that when camping.

Great spot, not super remote for those of us who like convenience. Nice and shaded but still plenty of sun. Loved the fire pit and wood included in the stay. Happy to be able to bring my dog also! Had a great time!

Great first camping experience, if you are wanting to go out but unsure if you can handle it. Start here! Great land and right next to a historic trail that you can see cool views.

Overall the site met our needs.
Hosts were very communicative, friendly and accessible ; site was steps from the trail.
Pretty buggy (make sure you have a screened in tent.) Lots of road noise as the site is close to busy River Road.
Would help if there was a hose available.

This is the perfect place for people new to camping. It's just far enough from "civilization" to be serene but close enough to grab forgotten supplies if need be. With a bonfire sized fire pit, convenient facilities, and lots of space, I'm definitely going back! James is an awesome host, with great communication, making a great stay even better.

Worked great for me. I liked the small touches. The leaves were blown off the campsite. I didn't realize that until the next day when more leaves dropped. Also, the fire pit was prefilled with tinder with plenty of large stuff available. Didn't use it, but I appreciated that. Road noise and trains passing by all built a pretty consistent white noise. I would stay there again.

The site was great. Nicely set up and right next to trails/water. James was awesome as well. He greeted my friend and I and gave us some great tips for our stay. Definitely check out some of the other awesome rentals and offerings he has available to you on your stay. All together a great getaway for a couple nights with a friend and his dog. Will definitely be back for another trip!

James was very accommodating. The camp was a nice getaway. There was a fire pit, a pavilion, vending machine, electrical plugs, and an outhouse. It was easy to get to yet offered a friend and I a place to camp to get away from the every day bustle. The proximity to local trails and the river was great. Would def stay here again!

This is a base camp as described- right by major bike/walking paved river trail.. The trail and the area are beautiful. I decided it was too public to camp alone so close to major road. Traffic noise. It would be good for a group or at least a couple prepared to bike or hike. GPS sent me across the street at someone’s house.

This Hipcamp was sooooooo amazing!!! The owners were so welcoming and accommodating!!! The camp was so calming, away from the rush of life and full of history! The creek and bike path was an added bonus!! I would absolutely stay there again!!!😁
