Tucked away alongside the Schuylkill River, and just next to the expansive Schuylkill River Trail, Camp Douglass gives you an opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle without leaving the creature comforts at home. A 5 minute drive gets you to more than 6 restaurants, a grocery store, a Wawa, and more.Welcome to Camp Douglass, your private 10 acre oasis along the Schuylkill River. Come by to relax and unwind without needing to leave the creature comforts at home. Our campsite is tailored towards medium to large sized groups, but we are happy to accommodate bookings of any size. 🏕 The camp area consists of a large cleared out section of the forest, 3 picnic tables, and a clean outhouse. You’ll be welcomed by beautiful views across and up the Schuylkill River, with no buildings in sight. 🚲 We are located directly alongside the Schuylkill River Trail, a beautiful nature and biking trail that spans more than 120 miles across Pennsylvania. Bring your bicycle, your horse, or simply go for a walk through the endless expanse of beautiful forest in the region. 🏝 Feeling adventurous? Take your kayak or canoe to your very own private island in the middle of the river to experience the ultimate seclusion. 🪵 We provide a healthy amount of seasoned firewood for our guests for their stay, you certainly won't run out. We remind you to please not cut or damage any of the trees. 🛤 ⚠️ This camp is located near an active train line, so you will hear the low rumble of a train a few times during your stay. Because there are no road crossings nearby, you shouldn't hear the horn. Please read our reviews to see our past guests feelings on the noise before booking. 🐜 Keep in mind, this is a riverside forest. There may be bugs! Most of the season, the camp is relatively bug free. Bug spray is strongly advised. 🐣 We politely ask for your feedback and kindness during your stay, as we are still new to hosting. Your messages help turn this into a great camping experience to be enjoyed by everyone. 🍳 The campsite is a 10-15 min walk from at least 5 restaurants, an 8 min walk to Wawa (24 hour food and toilets), and a 12 min walk to Redners grocery store. 🚌 We are located a 15 min walk away from the Klein bus terminal with twice daily service to and from NYC. 🛻 Drive straight to the campsite! We've been working hard to bring car access directly to the riverside campground. Wake up to a beautiful sunrise along the river in the comfort of your own vehicle.

Staying at camp Douglass is always such a joy. It’s absolutely beautiful, well maintained, and we have been back more than a few times. We even got engaged there! I suggest it to anyone who even mentions camping, and we even got engaged there. Do yourself the favor!

This was our second time at Camp Douglass. My best friend and I loved it so much the first trip, we couldn’t wait to bring the kids! Shane works hard on this property, and it shows. There were upgrades even since May when we were there. We booked a weekend already for next summer. We will come prepared with floats for the river. This trip the kids and dogs were able to walk over to the island and down the river. We had coffee with a beautiful view every morning. My friend and I agree, we’ve found one of our happy places!

Our scout troop had a great visit. It was a perfect spot for an overnight bike-in from the Schuylkill River Trail, and nice that we could bring supplies by car as well.

We loved every minute of camping at Camp Douglass! The view out over the river is amazing and the water near the shore is shallow and perfect for kids to play in. The campsite itself is flat and clean with a perfect spot for a hammock and there is a shed full of firewood nearby. Although the train didn’t bother us during the day it continued over night and was not overly loud but might not be great for light sleepers. The gravel road to get to the campsite was manageable for our Honda pilot and would be an easy walk if using the parking area. Over all it was great and we will definitely be back.

Site was well maintained and clean. Check in insteuctions were clear. Nice spot right along the river, plenty of space and felt secluded. You can tell the property owner has spent time making the site nice. Included firewood was a huge bonus. Train runs through regularly fairly close but didnt bother us. Would return again.

Great time camping! The check in was smooth and the host was accessible to help locate the camp (it IS secluded so best to use the guidebook for reference photos). The train was a bit distracting at times, but we anticipated it from the initial description (no worries it tends to stop at night). Wood is available to build a fire and the porta potty was close. Lots of space and picnic tables to spread out if you’re in a group too. I do wish there was an easier access to the river directly from the campsite, but overall the stay was fun!

This was definitely one of our top favorite Hipcamps, and we only wish we’d had more time here! We really appreciated the helpful site information provided after booking, as well as the clearly marked location and detailed instructions when we arrived—it made everything so easy. The seasoned, dry firewood was such an over-the-top amenity for road-trip camping—what a thoughtful touch! The campsite itself was beautiful with a lovely view and super easy river access. Everything was spotless—truly one of the cleanest and best-maintained sites we’ve stayed at. We will absolutely be back and are already recommending it to friends. Thank you for such an amazing option!

My friends and I had a great time camping here! The dirt road going to the campsite was very easy to drive on and some of our group even had low cars. We were lucky enough to be there during a black moon and the stars were amazing.

This was a really cool campsite—we felt instantly transported to nature the moment we arrived. It’s kind of wild how remote and peaceful it feels considering how close it is to neighborhoods and amenities (Wawa’s not far!). That contrast was actually one of the things we loved most; it felt like a hidden world tucked just out of view. The campsite itself was exactly as described: private, peaceful, and perched right alongside a beautiful creek. We went for a swim, listened to the water flow all night, and enjoyed dry, well-seasoned firewood that was included with the rental. That detail alone made campfire meals and evening hangs so much easier and more enjoyable. The access road was fine for our Subaru Crosstrek with no issues getting in or out. The host was clear, transparent, and accurate in their listing, which we really appreciated. It was peak mosquito season while we were there (July after lots of rain) so come prepared. Also, the train went by a few times—not all night—but it’s definitely part of the soundscape. For us, it didn’t take away from the experience as we expected it based on the listing. We booked this for a birthday weekend for our son and everyone had a great time. Net net: secluded, well maintained, close to nature but not far from the real world. We’d come back in a heartbeat.

I love camping here! This was our second time at Camp Douglass and my friends and I had so much fun tubing on the river and enjoying the ample shade from all the trees. It’s such a convenient location to get to from Philly as well, which is a huge plus.

Had a great time at Camp Douglass! My wife and I (and our dog!) loved the the site; tons of flat and dry area to pick from to pitch your tent, tons of firewood provided, easy access to the SRT and Schuylkill river water front. Make sure to bring earplugs for the train in case it runs at night, it made our dog a little anxious but he still did great. Thanks Shane! Will recommend to friends.

We tent camped on Shane’s land for the second year. Shane is constantly improving the site. We enjoyed our weekend and I would recommend this site for groups of 4 or more. There’s a lot of land and water to explore.

Shane’s Camp Douglass was a wonderful place to stay for Memorial Weekend. It was secluded with beautiful views of the river. The site offers level land with many options for tent placement. The wood chips covering the ground kept us out of the mud as it had been raining which was a nice touch. There was plenty of firewood on site stored in metal cradles with tarp covering, so it was dry and ready to burn. Perfect! We had two dogs with us and being able to let them run off leash made them very happy. We knew going in that there would be trains running nearby, which was not terrible. An acceptable tradeoff for having such a peaceful space to spend our time. I would caution anyone considering staying after rain to take note, the road leading in is dirt and can get very muddy. I have a small AWD SUV and navigated it fine. A sedan may have had issue. We loved it so much that my friend and I booked another weekend to bring our families!

This was a nice private camp site, with plenty of space for 3 families (10 people total) and a dog. If you visit after a period of heavy rains, you'll definitely need a good vehicle to make it down the road to the site due to the mud. Our favorite things were the privacy, view, and the space that we had. The only downside is the trains coming through late at night, but it wouldn't be a deal breaker for us to not come back. Hosts instructions and general info on the site were on point.

My friends & I absolutely loved this hipcamp! It rained on Friday so the road in was a bit swampy (definitely needed AWD), but the campsite was perfectly dry by Friday night. The location feels incredibly secluded and is just lovely being right on the river. The train that goes by several times a day is loud, but nothing worth fretting over. I would recommend this spot to anyone and everyone! They did a great job with directions and instructions as well. Thanks for having us :)

We stayed at Camp Douglass for my husband's birthday this weekend (May), and everyone had the best time! We were a group of 8 adults with 2 dogs. The campsite was beautiful and well kept with plenty of room for all of our tents and cars. The location was perfect because it feels so private and secluded even though it's only a few minutes away from a Royal Farms and Wawa, so it was incredibly convenient. We also really appreciated that the host gave very detailed instructions and directions to the site. I would highly recommend this spot. It was by far my favorite campsite for tent camping that I've ever stayed at. We will absolutely be returning in the future!

This place is a fantastic river side get away. The trail is a little tight so if you are bringing a bigger truck either have a spotter or be experienced. The host is very nice and approachable, the site is covered with mulch and is a very nice touch. Great little fishing spot of weekend getaway. We cannot wait to return.

We had a lot of fun camping at Shane's! Plenty of firewood ready for us when we arrived, and the river views are amazing. If you camp on the weekends there are fewer trains. Friday night several came by, Saturday night only one. Otherwise, the site is quiet and very remote feeling for something so close to town. We really felt like we were away from people. Hidden River Brewing is a must stop, 5 minutes away with great beer and food. It was the perfect site to easily access local mountain bike trails. Shane's guidance for getting set up at the site was extremely helpful as well. We will be back!

We really loved our time at this campsite! The campsite itself is really well equipped with everything you need, and the supply of firewoood is such a nice addition. Being right along the river was super fun for our dogs to play and splash around in too. The road in is definitely bumpy if you drive, but we were able to make it in just fine with our RAV4 that has 4 wheel drive. It had rained a bunch this week so there were muddy spots that we slid around on getting in, but it was doable. As others mention, the train noise is definitely pretty close by, and it is fairly noisy when it comes through, but it only happens a few times per night and wouldn’t deter us from booking this site again.
