Our beautiful 5 acre Permaculture homestead at the gateway to the Rogue River, features everything required to get away, relax—unplug; yet near enough to plenty of outdoor activities, river adventures, and the quaint small town bustle of downtown Grants Pass. There’s a little bit of everything to please camping enthusiasts: RV/van/car or SUV spots, or cozy tent sites for individuals, small families and even group reunions.   Or, after it's completed at some point soon, you could try our newly renovated tiny cabin if you're in a glamping mood! ~~~~ Wild Azalea Camp is part of a 16 yr. old organic homestead project and “food forest” with a broad array of permanent food bearing plants using regenerative agriculture – no-till organic gardening methods with native plants, medicinal plants, water capturing features. Retreats/workshops, small gatherings and public classes are in the plans, which Hipcamp guests are welcome to join. Dreaming up your own small group gathering/event, multi-family outing, or something similar? Barbara's son Bryon was the creator of this art, art that you may have seen at festivals or in stores or decorating yoga and spiritual Centers around the country. Bryon shared this land with his mom until his death at the end of 2022, and she celebrates his life by sharing a small taste of his art with you. _____________________________________________________________________________ Even if you aren’t lucky enough to spot a secret gnome or fairy house on a trail, we’ve worked hard to make sure you’ll have good memories of your stay here. Stop by and visit! ***** WHY OUR FLOCK OF CHICKENS STAY HERE LONG-TERM: ***** - 5 lush acres of woodland trails – mosses, mushrooms, wildflowers, deer, turkeys, song birds and occasional sightings of Jackrabbits!  - Multiple seasonal ponds and 4 seasonal creeks (they have water in the late fall/winter/early spring). - Occasional public workshops and retreats also open to HIpcampers. ______________________________________________________________________________ **** WHY OUR RESIDENT GNOMES LOVE THIS LOCATION: **** - Water and Electric Hookups at 3 RV/Van sites. (coming soon) - 10 min drive to mid-sized Grants Pass- with its lovely shops, theater, interesting restaurants/cafes (we have Dominican Caribbean, an all American vintage ice cream bar, and sushi :-) ) county parks, playgrounds, a skateboard park, and other amenities. - 10 min. to wilderness, Rogue River and rafting, hiking, fishing, kayaking, birding, mushrooming - Easy 10 min trip to I-5 Freeway. 20-45min drives to Ashland (for the Shakespeare fest!) and lovely towns of Jacksonville, Rogue River, and the city of Medford. -  3 min. (2 miles) drive or bike ride to the village of Merlin with rafting companies, grocery, gas and several restaurants. It has a large open area next to it, for guests at this site. -------------- Enjoy a wander on our woodland trails, and the fragrance of the many wild azaleas on the property, when they bloom in late spring. ----- Shooting Star tent site sits at the highest point on the land; spacious but private and shady. You will have this space all to yourselves unless you choose to share it with family or friends. ------- This is one of the most peaceful and magical spots on the land and we're happy to share it with others wanting to relax and experience Nature. Deer, turkeys, jackrabbits, and squirrels might wander through while you are there. In early spring the whole woodland floor is covered in Shooting Star wildflowers and other native wildflowers. ----- Enjoy a wander on our woodland trails, and the fragrance of the many wild azaleas on the property, when blooming in late spring. --- AMENITIES -- Room for multiple tents -- Suitable for tents, car camping, camper vans, small RVs (not trailers and no hookups at this site) -- Two hammocks (in dry season) -- Picnic table -- Firepit, lawnchairs (sometimes chairs might be used by guests at other sites) -- Propane fire pit for rent (during wildfire season) for evening campfires -- Water hose (delicious drinking water/washing and fire safety) -- Compost toilet outhouse and cold shower. -------- We hope you enjoy your stay! --------

Madrone Campsite

--------- This site has a cozy tucked in feel and is nestled under a young native Madrone tree near the tall privacy fence. It has a view of the two winter ponds when they are full. ------------- It includes a small sitting area that could be used as a space for a small tent for kids. (one person tent only, or two small kids) Not suitable for a full sized tent. We've had campers put up a 1-person tent here, but our other sites are better for tenting. This site is nice for camper vans, small RVs, or car camping. ------ Enjoy a wander on our woodland trails, and the fragrance of the many wild azaleas on the property, when they bloom in late spring. It was a bit off the beaten path for a 1 night stopover but we enjoyed the quiteness and the beauty of their eco camp. Directions were easy to follow. Thank you Jesse for assisting us in adapting for electricity. Toilets are composting very easy directions for use. Make sure you stock up for necessities before parking, Small market about 11/2 down the road and another 3 miles or more to the outskirts of grants pass.

Staying here was amazing, peaceful and beautiful! Barbara was super responsive and Jesse (and Nev!) were so helpful when we got there. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone!

I loved the tent camping site that Barbara, Jesse, and Vanessa prepared for us. It's a quiet retreat in the woods and there were clear directions on how to get there. Our little dog loved walking the small loop trail and we enjoyed having the option of a propane fireplace and the composting toilet served our needs. Thank you!

We are a young family and we enjoyed the shooting star camp ground. It had a picnic table, shower and compost toliet and a nice firepit. Our children enjoyed exploring and it was a short drive to down if anything was needed. We will come back sometime. Also the camp hosts were very nice and welcomed us upon arrival.

Absolutely lovely campsite. Beautiful and peaceful. Has a wonderful trail next to a wandering creek, to walk along. Hosts were super helpful and very nice. I definitely recommend.

This was a wonderful place to camp overnight while on a solo road trip. Communication with the host was excellent before and during my stay. Vanessa greeted me upon arrival and could not have been nicer. I opted for the propane firepit. Sipping my morning coffee while sitting next to the fire was a treat. The turkeys walking down the road and calling out every time geese flew overhead served as entertainment. The toilet was incredibly clean and odor free. Would definitely stay here again. I plan to stay multiple days in the future in the tent site that is off by itself with the creek nearby. Thank you for a great stay!

Great place to stay overnight on our way through. Loved the little trail and space for the kids to explore. Arrival was easy, hosts accommodating. The sites aren’t very private to each other, but that wasn’t a problem for us.

We camped in our van with our pup. We got in after dark but it was easy enough to find our spot. The property is clean (especially the composting toilet!), uniquely laid out, and nicely beautiful. We didn’t get to meet our hosts but we are grateful they were flexible with our late arrival. Great location if you’re cutting toward the coast from Grants Pass!

I had a lovely stay! The space was well thought out and I enjoyed the trails and additional touches as well. Vanessa was extremely welcoming and accommodating for our two vehicles (van & camper). We saw a family of deer walking through the property one evening too which was nice to see. Would definitely recommend!

What a lovely campsite. The caretakers couldn’t have been more attentive. The place shows the love that went into it. The sawdust composting toilets were spotless and there were so many nice touches.

We unfortunately missed our stay at this site due to a family emergency but the host was super accommodating and had great communication leading up to our trip. They were also very understanding of our last minute cancellation. I have no doubt they have a great site as they put a lot of thought and care into making guests feel welcome/comfortable. We definitely plan to stay here in the future!

Unfortunately my group and I couldn't stay here as it was POURING and our stuff was pretty drenched from the night before at a different campground. The hosts were lovely to communicate with and they very kindly returned our fee. We hope to try this place again in better weather!

The property is private and tucked in the woods with trails makes it feel secluded. It’s very well kept with nice composting toilet and shower. Vanessa and her daughter were so friendly and she was a great host.

Spent one peaceful night here while on the way to Canada. We were welcomed warmly to this spot by Vanessa, one of the hosts. Our campsite was flat and well-maintained, a great spot to pitch a tent. The composting toilet facilities were clean and comfortable! Adding this to our list of spots to return to for future roadtrips!

We camped in a tent at the Shooting Star site. Our host Vanessa was so helpful in communications, before & during our stay! Our site was very private - we felt immersed in the beautiful woods. There was plenty of cleared well-kept space and paths to move around the site. The compost toilet near our site was clean, well kept. It's true that on a weekday morning, there was some truck/etc noise - it wasn't super close or loud - and we expected it because hosts described it clearly. Also, Vanessa showed us around the rest of Azalea - lots of work & care has gone into this eco-camp, nice work. So - we felt safe, got deep rest, and were so happy for the woods & starry sky in such a private space. Thanks for all your work Barbara & Vanessa, & hope to see you again sometime soon!

Cute little spot just a few minutes outside of Grants Pass. As mentioned the highway was nearby, but the noise wasn't bad at all. The spots were shaded most of the day which was great. The host was lovely and made me feel very welcome!

Our stay at the new Tent Site was absolutely delightful! Vanessa’s warm welcome made our late arrival feel like a grand entrance. The site was enormous, with plenty of room to explore and twinkling lights that added a touch of magic to the night. My daughter and I unwound from our long day of driving by swinging from the hammocks, which helped kick off our vacation perfectly. The bathroom was spotlessly clean and smelled of fresh sawdust. Morning food prep at the picnic table was so convenient, and composting our scraps was a nice touch. The spaciousness made us feel like we had the whole place to ourselves. Highly recommend for a fun and enchanting camping experience!
