****PLEASE POST YOUR PHOTO on your profile for everyone’s safety. 😊 TOM'S REST was created by Tom's wife Cheryl in an effort to carry out their plans to provide respite for those in need. Tom Edwards worked tirelessly for years to clear this wild recreation space where he planned to live while helping others. Tom suddenly and unexpectedly passed February 2, 2015 while in the process of making his move to Sisters with his High School sweetheart of 45 years. Cheryl continued his passion and their dream to make this a place for those in need as a way to honor the most giving man she ever knew. This process has brought some healing and it is our hope to continue that healing for others in need from life's many trials. Anyone having a grief, widows/widowers, caregiver, cancer, hospice or other group that would like to have their group listed should message us as well. These respite visits are short getaways to refuel and support individuals during tough times. Those that come to enjoy Tom's Rest will hopefully gain some needed respite. Most feel they are pretty much 'on their own' in this retreat area with the option for seclusion OR mingling if so desired. My deepest thanks to all who have stood alongside through this journey and continue to do so. Site 5 is a larger area nestled in the trees at the very top back of the hill. You will see the sign for it on the right, just as you curve to the left at the very top of the gravel rd entrance. There is a picnic table in the trees for your use. Depending on the size of your vehicle/tent, you may be able to pull in and turn around and not back in. The bathroom is located by the solar building a short walk past the cabin area. Early check-in is available for $10 fee if no one is occupying your site before their checkout time.

Site 4 is just past Site 5 on the right, nestled in the trees and a smaller space than 5 but plenty for most needs. Both dry sites have great mountain and valley views with sunsets and a table nearby. It is a short walk to the solar building where the bathroom is. Early check-in is available for $10 fee if no one is occupying your site before their checkout time.

Ready for Pickleball? Corn Hole? Table Tennis? Badminton? All this onsite for your use. Site 1 is located on the ridge behind the cabin. Depending on how you site your RV, you have forest and Mtn. views. There is a sitting between the two RV sites, then the labyrinth and campfire areas in front of both of those sites that faces West to the mountains. The home on the property is situated down the road to the North end of the property. You are surrounded by acres of wilderness and BLM land as well. Nearby Fryrear Trailhead offers more areas to explore, all the way to Cline Butte. Early check-in is available for $10 fee if no one is occupying your site before their checkout time. Both RV areas have use of the gathering room for games, TV or reading while respecting all items for the use of others to come. Thank you.

My dog, Panzer, and I had a great stay here! We had originally booked site 4, but due to a no-show Cheryl said we could set-up in site 5, which gave us a ton of room to spread out that I didn't expect. It can be dusty, but I'm used to that in Central Oregon - having the gravel road cuts down on the dust quite a bit too (personally, I packed up my tent in the gravel). I was surprised by the complete lack of bugs, which was a great highlight. And I loved how close the restroom was - even being in the furthest camping spot, it's maybe a 2-minute walk. Once we got the lay of the land, the best part was being able to let Panzer run off-leash - he had a grand ol' time traversing the terrain. It was nice that Cheryl kept checking in on us as well - very personable and a great conversationalist.

Cheryl is a very friendly host and so easy to work with! We happened to be the only campers there when we stayed (I think a recent fire scared people away), and it was fantastic to have a real bathroom all to ourselves! In fact, since we were the only campers, Cheryl suggested we switch to site 5 which is bigger and has more shade. We really appreciated that! Our biggest complaint is no fault of Cheryl's; the land is just really dusty, and all of us and all of our stuff was very dirty. Otherwise, we had a great stay. Thank you, Cheryl!

Cheryl is amazing! Not only does she have the most incredible story about how this place came to be, but she was thoughtful and caring. My mom, me, and my dog came through just as the fire near Sisters started. She called us to warn us and since we were originally going to tent camp, she offered us the gathering room to sleep in to stay out of the smoke. Her property is absolutely stunning. Wish we had more time on her property and with her and her sweet dog.

Wonderful place to stay if you are looking for a clean, quiet spot close to Sisters or Bend with some amenities. Great views and Cheryl is an amazing host. Tent spots are huge with a short walk to restroom and water. Definitely a hidden gem! We'll be back.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Cheryl's Hipcamp. Cheryl greeted us shortly after our arrival. The sites were as described, with a close walk to the facilities. It was a lovely spot to rest our heads after a day on the trail at Smith Rock and watching our son play disc golf in Sisters. Such a convenient location, close to Sisters, Redmond, Bend, and Smith Rock, makes this location attractive for those that love to play on the east side of the Cascades in Central Oregon. We would definitely stay again and highly recommend Cheryl's land. Mike and family

The view was absolutely stunning and even though Cheryl wasn't able to greet us in person, she was very communicative, so I felt I was taken care of. The bathroom is a bit of a walk from the site, but not too bad.

My wife, daughter, and I had the opportunity to stay at Cheryl’s amazing property. From the moment we arrived, fun was had by all. The property really allows you to relax, and Cheryl is an amazing human who was a pleasure to talk with. Ardee the lab provided many licks and love, which was well received by our family. We look forward to returning in the future.

What a beautiful place this is and so peaceful and quiet. Cheryl had lots of recommendations for things to do and was so helpful. There are mountain bike trails all around and we enjoyed just heading right out from the campsite. Highly recommend this lovely campsite.

Cheryl’s land was secluded with stunning views. Cheryl was very welcoming and generous when offering access to her beautiful property. Directions to her property were easy and accurate. The site was perfect for our little trailer. We love small, intimate camping experiences and would definitely stay again!

we had such a nice time at Tom’s Rest. cheryl was very kind and hospitable during our stay. the little amenities (potable water, gathering room and games) at the site was a nice treat. the camp grounds were spacious with beautiful sunset views. we’d stay here again!

This place is beautiful, remote, and well equipped with power, water, and recycling. I enjoyed my stay here and would stay again. Cheryl communicated readily throughout the booking process and leading up to the stay. She gave great directions that were easy to follow. Dirt road would be passable for normal clearance vehicles. I did put my rig in 4-low on the way up the hill but probably didn’t need to.

Excellent all around. Cheryl was a wonderful host. Love the view and seclusions. Camp sites are nicely spread out. Our dog was able stay in camp without a leash. Well maintained bathroom. Nice gathering room. Fabulous pickle ball court. Would definitely stay again

Cheryl and her location, Tom’s Rest, are both absolutely magical. The peace you feel when you pull up is soul food. Cheryl will make you believe in humanity and Ardee (her adorable lab) will make you believe dogs are included in that humanity too. Our stay felt like home in all the best ways. This all sounds like an exaggeration, but I can promise you it’s not. Cheryl feels like everything good in this world. We didn’t want to leave, we wanted to spend more time with her, and we will most definitely be back. Thank you Cheryl!

Wonderful private site. Very dry in this area so a bit dusty. Site is very tranquil, quiet and well maintained. Steep grade, pop up van camper had no issue but large vehicles may be challenged.

This was my favorite spot on our 1000 mile road trip! Nice, remote location with incredible views, beautiful property. Restroom was clean and a nice change from outhouses! Cheryl was sweet and welcoming - we enjoyed the swing overlooking the canyon, although I don't think wd would have discovered it without Cheryl. INCREDIBLE dark sky views at night. Driveway was steep, bit our old van made it!

We loved our stay at Tom’s Rest. The property is expansive and beautiful. You get front row seats to sunsets over the snow-capped mountain range and at night, you get to see the stars—so many stars! We got to see the Milky Way with our own eyes, 2 out of the 3 nights we stayed. Cheryl is the kindest, sweetest person. We loved getting to know her and hope we get to see her on another stay at Tom’s Rest.

Nice remote place to stay yet still an easy drive to Sisters/Redmond/Bend. Great views. Clouds hung over the mountains most of the time but I did get early views to enjoy. Still great views even with the high clouds. Cheryl has done some wonderful things with the property. Very interesting. She is a wonderful lady. I did take a walk in the labyrinth. I had an all-day event so did not spend as much leisure time as I should have there. This is my first hipcamp stay so not sure what to expect. I am a tent camper and in a traditional campground, it takes me a while (longer than most!) to scout out a good site with level/cleared site for my tent. It was very windy (expected in a higher open area) and I opted to sleep in my car as I have done in the past. I would say this is a great place if you have a camper/RV or plan to sleep in your vehicle. Less so for setting up a tent but I would still come back. It was great to enjoy a reserved spot without lots of other campers and their campfire smoke!

Very basic camping spot for our pop-up and that's what I expected. It's a but if a walk from sites 4 and 5 to the restroom, so on board potty would be a good idea. Beautiful setting. The views over the canyon are awesome and the light pollution free night sky is "heavenly". Cheryl is a very friendly and I'm helpful host.
