Bill is a Star Host
Star Hosts are highly rated, responsive, and committed to providing incredible experiences.
North Fork Retreat is peaceful and serene, with the breeze sighing above you. We have several camping options, and some changes have been made this year, so please read our descriptions carefully. Swim or sunbathe at the natural swimming hole just a short stroll upstream. Sightings of a bald eagle, great blue heron, or river otters at play are common. Steps to the steelhead/ trout hatchery and fishing in the river. It’s quiet and peaceful here. This property is a "farm site" and some normal farm sounds and smells should be expected. Some of our sites accommodate RVs, while others are for tents only. Please be sure to review listing before booking. Pets are allowed at all of our sites, camp fires (outside of burn ban) at some of our sites. Amenities also vary from site to site. Guests love staying here: "Gorgeous spot right next to the Alsea River. Close access to two magical places in Alsea Falls and Mary's Peak. We had a big bright full moon, which unfortunately reduced our stargazing opportunities, but I'm sure that would be spectacular otherwise." We adhere to CDC/NIH standards and request that all guests over the age of 6 months be vaccinated for COVID.

Beautiful and rural campsite with lovely hosts! They welcomed us and gave a tour of their homestead. There were two bodies of water we utilized, one just off of the campsite and the other is less than .75 miles north of the campsite. This was a public area with no other campers or visitors with a great swimming hole. Compost toilet on site was also amazing, and very dog friendly! Our group rented out this campsite, as well as the Grove campsite. The river site was mainly used for cooking and our main hang out spot.

Garden Grove
Near river/yellow jackets galore
We stayed at The Garden Grove. The site was shaded and semi peaceful. Limited light pollution made stargazing a wonderful experience. There are two roosters that crow repeatedly back and forth starting at 3:30am until 10am. There are three dogs that alternate barking, howling, and whining when the roosters crow. I understand farm noises were expected but we didn’t realize that meant through a metal fence twenty feet from the tent. You literally could not sit and eat at any time, the yellow jackets would attack your food, dive into the bite you were eating, and fly off with pieces they stole. We had to walk around while eating to essentially run from the yellow jackets. While cooking, they would buzz directly into the pan and cook themselves. There was a single wasp trap at the edge of the camp almost completely full by the time we left. The river access was amazing the first night since no one was using the site we were able to get to the river with a short walk. The next day, a short drive to a nearby park also provided a good time at the river. We wouldn’t stay here again due to the noise and yellow jackets but we enjoyed our time and hope the best for the next campers!

We stayed at Bill’s sites two weekends in a row and just had a wonderful time. Stargazing in the meadow had a beautiful view of the Milky Way and we were there during the perseids meteor shower, which was astonishing. Campsites were clean and had everything we needed. Bill and Pam were so friendly and accommodating, they made sure we had everything we need. Also, this spot is in such a good place with Mary’s Peak, Alsea Falls, and the beach all pretty close by! The watering hole down the road was also so nice to use. I hope we get the chance to stay again!

sweet spot along rushing river
Sweet shady spot right next to river so you could hear the sounds of water all night. Next to road but quite private and we heard perhaps two or three cars using this local dead end road. Fish hatchery was fascinating. Good sized picnic table and easy to use composting toilet. Perfect location for meeting friends in rural Alsea, Philomath, and Corvallis, and exploring the coast. Would definitely stay again perhaps when a new moon to take advantage of stargazing field.

Garden Grove
This site is very clean and shady. The hosts were very nice and our kids loved that we were right next to horses. There was an odor that drifted over from the neighbor’s farm and noise from the rooster but all in all we really enjoyed our stay! We loved being close to the river and spent a good amount of time playing in the water.

Stargazer Meadow at North Fork
No grilling or access to swim hole
We didn’t realize that no fires would also mean no grilling. We were also told upon arrival that we would not have access to the swimming hole because someone was camping there. We should have asked for more specifics before reserving I guess. We didn’t end up staying as we would have no way to make food and we would have roasted in the heat without being able to swim. We were lucky enough to find a really awesome campsite up the road instead.
