The views are great, but the bugs were pretty bad. Not much the host can do about it though. It’s nature. Chiggers were bad though. We could not find river access aside from fishing from the nearby bridge. I tried calling the host but the voice mailbox was full. The host was never on sight. It is primitive camping with a vault toilet. I do primitive camping quite a bit — maybe 150 nights out of a year. I think mowing may help quite a bit. Before booking, I would contact host to see where to access the river legally.

This was our second time here, but a very poor experience this time. The grounds have not been maintained, you couldn’t see the driving path most of the way and we had to cut and weed the camping area just to set up our chairs. There are three bathrooms on the property. One of them was locked, one of them the door was missing, and the third one was full of garbage and mouse poop with a hornets nest inside. This property is clearly not being monitored and we were very disappointed. We had a great time last year and had really been looking forward to coming back annually, but unfortunately we will not be back.

Views were gorgeous, especially the nighttime stars. The campground is quiet, private, and has nice fire pits. Bring bug spray!

I called Ronald before we booked. He was very helpful. We enjoyed our stay and will be back in the future. It was quiet and clean and the sky was amazing at night from no light pollution. No water, electric or rv dump close by but Ronald indicates he plans to have power and water available soon. Nice location by the river and not far off the main highway.

This is a great, private and BEAUTIFUL spot for a simple campground while exploring the eastern Oregon area. Buzz was nice to talk to, he even gave me some bottled water and a few pieces of firewood. Highly recommended to anyone needing a basic spot to camp for one or several nights, and my wife and I will be back. Hopefully there is power run to the sites by then (I was told it's in the works!).

The campsite was lovely- we were lucky and had it all to ourselves. It’s right off the road but quiet and felt private. Access to the water was great too.

It’s kinda out in the middle of nowhere but a cool place. Nice small river running along side. Cows grazing. Abundant firewood. Vault toilet. Very private.

Very easy to find. We were the only people there. Its definitely one of the best places for star gazing. I'm almost certain we will be coming back.

Ronald was great. Very welcoming and the site was perfect for what I needed, with firewood ready for me. Great star gazing!! Will definitely come back next time I'm in the area.

The view from the camp is absolutely beautiful. The sky is darker than prineville resevoir and you can see so many stars with little to no light pollution from the surrounding area. It's right next to a little river with good fishing. The owner buzz, is super friendly and inviting, and it is obvious he really cares about his camp ground. My wife and I will totally return if camp out that way again!

Unfortunately we weren’t able to stay. We got to the camp site and it was very overgrown. None of the camping spots were level except for the ones by the water but those were infested with mosquitos. We opened the door to our car and had about 10 mosquitoes in our car and 5 mosquito bites in less than a minute.
We had to find another camping spot about 45 minutes away last minute.

My friend and I were looking for a remote, quiet place to spend the weekend and that’s exactly what we got. Had the whole place to ourselves and thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful scenery and creek. Will definitely be coming back.

The place needs; maintenance, mowing, accurate directions! We brought our own weed eater, rake and leaf blower to find the spot. There are lots of fox tails (bad for dogs), waste high weeds. We paid for three nights, but made our camp elsewhere after first night.

Great remote camping. Land is rough but host is helpful and puppy is cute! Rode my motorcycle from Portland out through the gorge and south. Beautiful ride and amazing area.

If you like to spend time in quiet, remote locations, this would be the place for you. There is a bit of highway noise occasionally, but it is not intrusive. Buzz, the camp host, is a friendly, helpful person. He was fun to talk to. Buzz now has an outhouse added to his property for Hipcampers.
There are a group of 5 otters that have a den directly across from the campground. We had fun standing on the bridge watching the otters swim around eating fish. We tried our hand at fishing, but the stream was pretty low when we were there. We did not catch anything. In spite of the low water, we still had fun trying to catch the fish!

We had a fun campout with a bigger group of friends here but its honestly not somewhere we would want to camp again. Minimal shade, lots of weeds and that particular area of the Crooked River is shallow, full of algea and pretty close to stagnate. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous though and like i mentioned we had a blast but...you kind of have to make your own fun at a site like this. None of this is the property owner's fault, no complaints toward him. I will however say its close to the Post store which is super convenient for ice and treats to try and mitigate the heat. Its also close to Antelope Reservoir which was sadly very dried up and also un-swimmable due to the weather/drought but nonetheless, if it were a better year its just a 15 min drive.

Wow, what a treat. We rolled up to a shady juniper and watched the river go by. There was only one other party at the camp, and a closed road made for a delightful walk after dinner. Host was very responsive and helpful, portable toilets were clean.

Buzzards’ Roost gave us a great “Home Camp,” away from the traffic of public campgrounds and within easy reach of several reservoirs. We both grew up camping on the sides of Idaho Forest Service roads, and we’re not really fans of “camping” cheek-by-jowl with a hundred others in a tamed State Park, so this was a lovely alternative—all the quiet & seclusion of “real” camping, with the perks of a picnic table, an already-level space for our tent, and no need to dig a potty-hole. ;)
The site itself is situated on a riverbank, intermittently shaded by juniper trees, and surrounded by high-desert sage. When we rolled down our pickup window to chat up a local oldster fishing off the bridge, he shared his favorite fishing spots just up the mountain in the Ochoco National Forest (pointing at his grinning Indian grandson, who couldn’t be older than five, and adding, “That one’s caught upward of twenty trout up there.”)
A fire ban precluded the campfire, but we enjoyed camp-stove-coffee and a breathtaking sunset painting the hills opposite while deer tiptoed among the sagebrush nearby. Yipping coyotes served as our “alarm clock” for early-morning fishing, and the morning was refreshingly chilly in this summer’s heat wave.
Land-owner Ronald is a gem—I texted him with a few questions when we booked, and we ended up in a lively conversation (he ALSO grew up camping in Idaho forests!) that resumed when we had an on-site question and continued after our departure, making plans to meet up later this summer for a wagon-ride with his mules! He has plans for continuing to enhance the campsite, and we’ll be back to see it evolve!

This place was beautiful and secluded like a backpacking experience minus the hardships of backpacking! I would absolutely recommend it! The only minor issue was that both my husband and our friend missed the entrance to the actual campsites. It's a little hard to see from the road, and the directions take you to the road behind the sites. Obviously we made it though and had an incredible time :)

Beautiful property - I had the campsite entirely to myself.
The ground was pretty uneven so better suited to trailers, or worth bringing a rake/shovel to level out the ground. I was also accompanied by a large mosquito population, so bring spray and appropriate items.
