Woody is our peaceful hilltop home nestled amongst the scenic hills in southeast Ohio between Hocking Hills State Park and Zaleski State Forest. Enjoy staying on a hilltop meadow filled with a mix of wildflowers and song birds. The meadow is surrounded by a tall mixed hardwood forest where campers are free to walk the mowed path through the woods. Come nightfall, you will be graced with some of the darkest skies in the state of Ohio. On a clear moonless night, the milky way galaxy comes into view and shooting stars are not an uncommon site. If you're lucky, our friendly black cat will grace you with his presence, he's a legend and likes to snuggle:) We offer a variety of accommodations depending on the type of adventure you are seeking. Choose between staying in the off grid school bus tiny home, the 20 foot "glamper" with outdoor kitchen, the Hickory Hut which offers more "creature comforts" or simply pitch a tent or park a smaller camper in the open meadow campsite for a night of stargazing. Woody is located within 25 minutes of many of the areas attractions: 15 minutes to Ash Cave 20 minutes to Cedar Falls 25 minutes to Old Man's Cave 20 minutes to Lake Hope 10 minutes to McArthur 25 minutes to Logan Here at Woody we honor our place in the natural world and are humbled by the beauty that surrounds us. Come enjoy a night under the stars at the Stargazer campsite located in the open grassland meadow just off the driveway. The site is equipped with a fire ring and picnic table with one bench seat. Campsite guest have access to the communal privy (located a short walk up the driveway), the propane heated outdoor shower (not available in the winter), potable water at the garden spigot located close to the shower and a short trail system around the property. For the more adventurous campers, feel free to take a hilly hike to the spring fed pond and go for a dip! To access the pond take the loop trail to the left of the privy. Follow that trail to the pond trail which will lead you up and over a hill to the pond. The pond has a small floating dock and is approximately 15 ft deep. Swim at your own risk!!!

Feel like camping but don't want to stay in a tent? Come stay in our off-grid school bus! The Bus campsite is located just off the driveway in an open grassland meadow. Guests are welcome to park their car at the site. Amenities include a fire ring, an indoor solar light, 5 gallons of water for washing dishes, a table and two chairs (located outside), a single propane burner, some cooking oil and spices and basic kitchen utensils needed to prepare a simple meal. The Bus also feature a wood stove for the more adventurous camper wanting to camp in the colder months. Wood for the wood stove must be purchased from Woody Acres and can be found in the extras. The Bus comfortably sleeps 2 with a queen size bed (clean bedding provided). If you wish to accommodate more people, please message us to inquire about options. The shared privy is located less than a minute walk from the bus. A few additional things to note about the bus: There is no shade at this site and the bus tends to get hot in the heat of the summer. You may want to bring along a pop up tent or some other type of shade tent; Cell phone coverage can be spotty here and in the area so plan accordingly; The floor to ceiling clearance is about 6 feet, so taller individuals may not be able to fully stand up in the bus; Lastly, It gets dark here. It's helpful to bring along a headlamp or flashlight.

Are you looking for a campsite close to Hocking Hills to enjoy a cook out, campfire and a blissful night under the stars without having to pack a tent and all your cooking gear? If so, the Peppermint Patty Wagon is the spot for you! This 20 ft camper is located just a short 65 yard walk from the parking area and within close proximity to our garden. Guests of the PPW will enjoy a fire pit area with seating, an outdoor kitchen under a small shelter house equipped with 2 propane burners, a large sink with rain water catchment, and a charcoal grill (charcoal not included). The camper sleeps 3 people with it's queen size bed and bench seat that can be made into a twin bed (clean linens are provided for both). If you wish to accommodate more people at this site, please message us to inquire about options. The camper does have electric, it is however limited to a single power strip and a mini fridge/freezer. Some overhead string lights are hung but a headlamp or flashlight is recommended. There's a 5 gallon jug of water under the sink for washing dishes made accessible with a foot pump (not available in the winter). The kitchen is well stocked with cookware and utensils. One thing to note; the oven and stove inside the camper do not work, there is however a propane stove in the outdoor kitchen. For the colder months, a little buddy propane heater will be available. The heater runs off a 1 lb propane tank. We have propane available to purchase ($7 for 1 lb) or you are welcome to bring your own. The shared privy is about a minute walk across the field next to the brown shed. Cell phone coverage can be a bit spotty here so plan accordingly.

Come enjoy peace, tranquilly, and comfort in this quaint cottage by the hickory trees. The Hickory Hut is a 15' x 11' insulated cabin situated underneath a beautiful Hickory tree conveniently located at the end of the driveway. The Hickory Hut is furnished with a king size bed (clean sheets, pillows, and blankets provided), recliner, ceiling and window fan, electric heater during the colder months, a small outdoor table with two chairs and a fire pit with grill grate. There's also a small kitchenette equipped with a mini-fridge (no freezer), a single electric burner, electric water kettle, french press for coffee as well as cookware and utensils. There's no plumbing in the cabin but there is a sink with a 5 gallon jug of water made accessible with a foot pump. The shared privy is located a short walk from the cabin. The Hickory Hut comfortably sleeps two, however if you wish to accommodate more people please message us to inquire about options. Cell coverage is spotty here so plan accordingly.

Interested in hosting a private getaway out in the woods close to Hocking Hills? Then Woody Acres is your place to be. Our 30 acre secluded hilltop site offers four camp sites including; the Bus, the Peppermint Patty Wagon (camper), the Hickory Hut, and the Stargazer Camp all of which can accommodate extra tents. There is an outdoor shower, outdoor kitchen, privy, pond (for swimming) and hiking trails. We have electricity available at two sites, the Peppermint Patty Wagon and the Hickory Hut. Potable water is available at the spigot at the top of the hill. Firewood is available onsite for purchase and of course our cute one eared black cat who likes to snuggle. Woody Acres is home to Austin Cannon who offers a wide array of earth living skills classes including: advanced fire making, bow making, hunting, fishing, foraging, trapping, hide tanning, rope making, water procurement and disinfection, and net making ect. All of which are done with the caretaker mentality to leave bounty in our wake. If you are interested in scheduling a class with Austin please contact us for more information. Woody Acres is a working homestead so you may see the owners out and about working on projects from time to time.

Hickory Hut
Amazing campground, and Austin & Kate were awesome. Highly recommend whether it's hot or cold, this place takes care of you. And be sure to just buy their wood for your fires, it's cheaper than Kroger, and it burns way longer. Can't wait to bring my kids here, they'd have an absolute blast. Stargazer Campsite
A nice Hipcamp done exceptionally well. The Stargazer site is next to the owners driveway but don’t let that stop you. Their property is quiet and peaceful with well maintained walking trails and a great privy. We had a wonderful stay and enjoyed talking with the owners and getting to visit with their cat. It was a perfect evening in a location with many parks in the area.

Hickory Hut
I love this place so much I keep going back! Their growing homestead has everything you need so you can soak in all of the goodness of the beautiful land and get the rest and relaxation you want. The hosts are fabulous humans who have created a welcoming and educational environment where anyone can learn new things about living with the land in a sustainable and kind way. Don’t miss it! ♥️

This bus is so cute and cozy. We enjoyed the spot and hiking the trail on the property. Beautiful nature abounds. We enjoyed our bonfires and stargazing. The hosts are very kind and friendly. They have a friendly cat who likes to visit. There is a solar light, one stove burner and a foot pump sink in the bus. There are some amenities that are present but not functioning, which would take it up an extra notch. As is it’s a decent camping setup and sufficient. The outhouse is shared and a short walk away. We were comfortable and cozy and enjoyed our stay.

Hickory Hut
We rented the cabin here for the weekend and it was so peaceful, clean and cute! They also allow dogs so it was even more fun having our pup there with us. The trails on the property are nice to walk plus there’s a lot of other trails nearby. The other rentals and tent spots were far enough away from one another to have privacy which was also nice. Overall it was a great stay on a beautiful piece of land.

I loved my stay in the bus! The bed was comfortable and I was plenty warm in the middle of October. The shared privy and shower were nice amenities. The hosts were super helpful and accommodating, and put together a great guidebook with local recommendations! Definitely recommend if you’re visiting hocking hills!

The Peppermint Patty trailer is a gem of a spot! On top of a hill with an open view of the sky, it really is a little bit of paradise! The outdoor cooking area is well outfitted with utensils and the outdoor shower is wonderful! The bed is comfy, and the onsite trails are really nice. There are plenty of dishes, blankets, and anything you could need. It was the perfect weekend getaway!

Hickory Hut
Me my husband and our two dogs went to visit hocking hills for the weekend and this was just down the road! I am not the biggest fan of camping but my husband loves it. So I opted for the Hickory Hut and it was fantastic. The night sky was the most beautiful thing in the world. Everything was clean and the outdoor shower was better than the one we had back at home! I would highly recommend this place to anyone. They had other trails we were able to take our dogs for a walk on.

Hickory Hut
What a lovely spot for a weekend getaway! It was perfect for enjoying the outdoors but still having the comforts of a comfy bed, ceiling fan, mini fridge, etc. The cabin and especially the kitchen were really well stocked, and we enjoyed using the outdoor shower and checking out the trails on the property. Kate and Austin were really welcoming but we had a lot of privacy as well. We would definitely stay again for our next trip to the Hocking Hills area!

I loved staying in the converted old school bus, very nostalgic. It was close to Hocking Hills State park and many other parks that I wish I had time to check out. The site itself - wow - you can stargaze, walk trails created by the hosts, have a cozy campfire, and even take a class. Kate and Austin are wonderful hosts and very passionate about using the land appropriately and getting others involved. The bus had everything you need. The propane shower is wonderful! The only thing that made me sad was that their solar was broke so the lights and fridge didn’t work (I had my own lights and a way to keep cold stuff cold). The local towns should be checked out as well.

Peppermint Patty Wagon
We had a wonderful time at the Peppermint Patty Wagon. Austin and Kate were great hosts! Kind of there, but not there. If that makes any sense? The P.P.W. was a nice camping trailer and at 6’7” I had to relive my teenage years with my feet hanging off the bed, lol! No worries there. Being the cook in the family, the outdoor kitchen is right up this boy’s alley. Limited to a 2 burner gas stove and a well built fire pit, we cranked out some nice meals. While our hosts plied us with veggies from their garden. (And let us clean out their tomatoes before we left! Thank you!!) That was sweet. We didn’t get to see much of Kate, she was off doing some festivals and practicing her Henna art. But that gave us Austin all to ourselves.. We took the hour tour and were genuinely impressed by Austin’s knowledge of his surroundings. I don’t doubt that many of his skills were honed from the same skills employed by Native Americans. I’d call that a valuable skill set. From making natural fiber cordage to weaving that into rope to carving handmade bow, arrows and flint points, Austin’s “Earth Skills” set is pretty formidable. While there he taught us some basic fire making skills. I learned how to weave properly prepared cat o’nine tails. Check out Austin’s woven hat! We even went off site to the Zaleski State Forest to go foraging for Pawpaws! I’ve held out on trying a pawpaw over the years until I could find one in the wild. Thank you for making that happen!

Wildflower Paradise
Hickory Hut
Staying at the Hickory Hut was the perfect weekend getaway! Pulling into the driveway you're greeted by prairies on both sides filled with wildflowers, parking is right next to the cabin, the outdoor shower was one of my highlights, to take a hot shower with sunflowers growing up and over the walls of the shower was such a great experience! You don't get much more into nature than at this site. We loved how close all the hiking trails. We will definitely be back again!

Such a beautiful little area just far yet close enough to everything. This spot surpassed my expectations and we will definitely try to come back! There are well maintained walking paths both through the flowers and woods all the way to the nice little pond at the edge of the property. The shower and restroom were both a must have and well maintained. The host were very friendly and accommodating. Overall this place was fantastic and I am so happy to have spent a little time in this sliver of Heaven!

A Wonderful and Welcoming Escape

Albert Hoffman once said, "…the feeling of co-creatureliness with all things alive should enter our consciousness more fully and counterbalance the materialistic and nonsensical technological developments in order to enable us to return to the roses, to the flowers, to nature, where we belong." This is the most apt summary / reflection I have of my experience at Woody Acres. As for practical topics: The location was easy to find using my phone's navigation. My phone had reception the entire time I was there. The Bus is cozy without being cramped, I had plenty of space to hang out inside. The most unexpected joy I had was using the outdoor shower- the sky was clear, the sun shining, and bumblebees were zipping around the sunflowers. (Also the propane water heater works VERY well, which was a welcomed creature comfort on the chilly mornings) Kate and Austin are very friendly and hospitable. Their cat is adorable! They have built a beautiful property and I am so grateful they have opened it to others in this way. I am already looking forward to the next time I can visit.

My husband and I spent a magnificent weekend camping on Kate & Austin's property! The campsite was a short walk away from all amenities (potable water, privy which was impeccably clean, and shower). The site offers beautiful views of both the sunrise and the sunset! Kate & Austin were so welcoming and kind, and we connected with them right away! Couldn't recommend staying with them any more. We happened to bring our astronomy equipment with us and the site was perfectly situated in a meadow for enjoying the night sky.

OMG! This place is Amazing. Clean! Cute! And the hosts came to my (private) firepit (on my invitation… they are otherwise available but somewhere else.) They really stocked the site with every pot pan utensel and everything i needed. I have stayed at many Airbnb‘s and a few hip camp places and by far this is my favorite stay of all time. Thanks for making my stay awesome

Really great stay at the bus! It was so inviting and super nice. Had a great fire and the stars were amazing. Austin and Kate were super welcoming and I would highly recommend staying with them, they have multiple sites on the property and it’s all very well done! One of there cats joined us for most of the evening and hung out all morning with us. It was overall a great experience!

Such a wonderful stay! This is a very inviting place that is clearly well thought out by its stewards, for the land as well as its guests. So clean and very well provisioned, (just remember your own drinking water). Every site here is intent on coziness and has a very fun feel. We arrived on an exceedingly hot day but the hilltop position of the encampment seems to allow for a consistent breeze and plenty of shady places to keep cool and comfortable. The clean, private shower was thoroughly appreciated! Our night was a clear, cool one and we were fortunate to be able to lie out and catch some of the meteor shower. The hosts are very friendly and interesting folks that are clearly focused on their wonderfully progressing kingdom. In a word… Inspiring. We will absolutely stay again in the future and can easily see coming with the group. Thank you!

The meadow is a magical place and the trails are serence and peaceful. Peppermint Patty was charming, clean, very comfortable and was stocked with everything you could want or need. We loved the outdoor kitchen so much! Austin was very knowledgeable and informative and very personable, a delight to speak with. The hosts are very accommodating and add to the aura. The whole vibe is incredible. Highly recommend a visit! Sn- the night sky is mesmerizing🌌

The place was a perfect spot for solo camping! It was a comfortable and safe place to be. Deers, birds, lightening bugs, cat and two cute skunks came by! Katie and Austin made sure there were everything set up to enjoy the place. I loved the outdoor kitchen space!
