We bought this 125+ year old farm in 2010 with the hope of bringing it back to life. Overgrown and neglected, we have worked hard to make it a nice place for hiking, kayaking, fishing or any number of other activities. Peaceful and remote, the property has a beautiful brook that leads you to the South branch of the Portage river. Deer, turkey, geese, herons, mink and fox are just a few of our natural animal friends. Rusty the steer and his pony friends Lexi and Little Bits can be visited while they graze in the pasture. There are chickens and Brindle the barn kitty. We have the perfect place for dogs as well. We have four dogs that get along great with others and our fenced pond keeps them safe.

The parking is in front of the garage and we have a golf cart to transport camping supplies and guests to the camp sites. Trails run along a brook that connects to a river with wildlife everywhere. Site 8 is our newest site by request. It is the only site on the pond side of the road. It faces east and allows for beautiful sunrises over a lovely meadow. Shaded in the afternoon, this site also has easy access to the pond. Peaceful, remote and private... site 8 will be your choice.

The RV sites are next to the creek and have 110 electric. 30 amp for site #1 and 20 amp for site # 2. Enjoy the sound of the water as it passes over the rocks and the Winnie of a mini horse or the low moo from Rusty. The barn is full of farm animals to visit. There is a pond across the road for use. Swim, kayak or use the paddleboat. No fishing is allowed for safety purposes. Hike the trails to the river and back and around the pond side of the road. There is a nice grassy area in front of the barn for games like volleyball or cornhole. There's always something to do. There is ample room but there is a pathway along the creek.

We had a great time at Rusty's retreat. The hosts are fantastic people! The land is beautiful and peaceful. Listening to the creek at night is the best. My kids had a great time. Loved the dogs and all the animals. Would definitely recommend and will be visiting again! Thank you for sharing your land!

This is a very nice location, and the hosts were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. The camp sites are well thought out and designed as camp sites. This is not just parking in someone's back yard like some locations are. The hosts have put real effort into making a pleasant location. Highly recommend.

Some friends and I took tent sites 1, 2, and 3 along the river with our sons, and it was great! We had a fantastic time, fishing and exploring the river. The hosts were attentive and accommodating. We would definitely go back.

Site 3 - Rusty's Retreat
We stayed on site 3 with our one year old and our dog for our first camping adventure since our baby was born. It was exactly what we needed—beautiful, peaceful, and also very convenient. Jay and Heather’s hospitality for a campsite was better than most Airbnbs I’ve stayed! If you’re daunted by lugging your camping gear into a spot marked “secluded”—don’t be. They helped us move everything we needed in a golf cart (and we brought a lot because of our baby). I loved birdwatching and listening. My husband loved fishing and walking in the river. Our baby loved to the ponies and Rusty. Our dog loved meeting another dog friend! We cannot wait to come back! Even if site 3 isn’t right for your family or setup, I guarantee you one of the other spots will be!

Rusty’s retreat was a lovely place to stay! Our campsite was clean and provided a lot of privacy for our quick stop through town. We were on site 1 right next to the creek. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking to relax and spend some time outdoors!

Site 1 - Rusty's Retreat
Jay's location and site 1 was perfect for our 1-night stay. Gracious, he gave a quick tour of the other sites and amenities. We stayed in our class b van comfortably for the evening after enjoying some quiet time in front of the fire using the hardwoods firewood Jay offers for a small, additional fee. I do have a couple of notes for others. 1) Buy the firewood, it's high-quality hardwood and just a couple of pieces burned for hours keeping us comfortably warm. After years of purchasing cheap bundles at other campgrounds, constantly feeding and tending the fire, this was an experience worth remembering on a cool night. I don't recall moving tending the fire, at all, for the 2.5hrs we sat in front it. 2) Buy the eggs. They were just wonderful for our morning omelette. 3) If in-season, make sure to try some of his free tomatoes. Stunning flavor and even better on an omelette.

Site 3 - Rusty's Retreat
This was the perfect quick getaway for my golden retriever and me! We just wanted to get away from it all for a couple nights and since it was so short and last minute, decided to car camp instead of setting up a tent. Jay responded very quickly that they could accommodate that! We loved our peaceful little nook. Jay checked in on us, but mostly just let us be, which is exactly what we wanted. We would definitely stay here again!

Site 7 Rusty's Retreat
We had so much fun visiting this farm and camping. The hosts were so welcoming and couldn’t have been kinder for our first time using Hipcamp. Jay was so generous and offered produce they were growing to us. We were able to kayak, see some cool farm animals, and relax at a private campsite. The bugs weren’t bad even next to a creek. We were able to get firewood on sight and they even helped us out with water. I would highly recommend camping here if you want kind hosts and a chill campsite. Rusty the cow is really sweet too, and we were able to give him lots of love in the morning before we left.

Had a wonderful time! Sites were spaced out and secluded. Jay and his wife were very helpful with anything we needed. If your looking for a secluded quiet spot this it. The place would be great for groups that still wanted a little space between camps! Great fishing in the acre pond!

Jay and Heather were fantastic hosts, quick to respond and accomodating! The site and whole area were well tended, clean and peaceful. Lots of various options for campers of all skills and amenity preferences, check them all out. Would highly recommend anyone to try it out.

Site 3 - Rusty's Retreat
We had so much fun! Me and my 3 friends stayed on lot 3 (which is the biggest by the way). We picked tomatoes and used it for out dinner that night. Jay was so kind and patient, gave us a tour of the grounds, and helped us move our stuff with his golf cart. It's definitely rustic camping but it'll be fine if you're prepared for it. And there's a city nearby with a kroger we shopped at everyday.

I loved tent camping out at Rusty’s Retreat. Heather and Jay were incredibly kind. Views were exceptional. Other sites were close by but the sites were spaced out lovely. Definitely will be back for more stays!

Everything about our experience was fantastic. From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed and we were shown to our site, which we were able to drive our vehicle right up to the river’s edge. We had ordered firewood which was waiting for us when we arrived. We enjoyed the sounds of nature and the beauty of the land. We even ventured over to the pond for a swim and leisurely kayak ride. Do not hesitate to book! You will not regret it. We are already planning our next trip back! Oh, don’t forget to say hi to Rusty!!

Jay and Heather were wonderful hosts. They let us camp in a spot that was more accommodating or our group than our original reservation and were delightful throughout our stay. The land was so peaceful, only minimal traffic on the road and we could see the stars at night. A+ would stay again. 😁

Fantastic! Just book it and go. We stayed in Site 1 with a Creekside setting. It was peaceful and private. Jay & Heather are superb hosts and gave us a tour of the property in the golf cart and brought us fresh tomatoes and peppers. If camping isn’t your thing, they host a modern apartment overlooking the pond too. If we are in the area again, we will definitely be back.

Great spot for a quick overnight. Site 3 is biggest with access to the water. Site 2 is on the water but does not have ready easy access to the water and is smaller. Site 1 is a decent size, the most scenic with direct access to the water. Probably has the most privacy too. Be nice to have one of the porta pots closer to tent sites 1-3
