Nestled just five miles from Athens, Ohio, Lake Snowden stands out as a unique 675-acre education and recreation park, offering visitors a perfect blend of natural beauty and outdoor adventure. The park features the largest of four lakes within the Margaret Creek Conservancy District, encompassing approximately 136 acres of pristine water. At Lake Snowden, guests can enjoy a variety of activities, including camping, boating, fishing, picnicking, and swimming. The park is designed for convenience and comfort, boasting well-maintained shelter houses, restroom facilities, a sandy beach, and designated fishing spots along the shoreline. Additionally, the on-site fish hatchery enhances the fishing experience, making it a full-featured destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Established in 1968 with federal funding from the Farmer’s Home Administration and the Soil Conservation Service to manage flooding, Lake Snowden opened its doors to the public in 1972. In 1998, Hocking College acquired the park from the Le-Ax Water District, ensuring its continued operation and preservation for future generations.
