Broadwell Hill is a working forest farm with sustainable stewardship plan: member of the American Tree Farm System, United Plant Saver's Botanical Sanctuary, Certified Wildlife Habitat and Monarch Waystation. The Appalachian Mountains Joint Ventures organization hosted a site visit here to highlight habitat creation, especially for the migratory songbirds. The Off-grid Motherhouse was constructed with up-cycled materials and local labor; it includes the following systems: potable rainwater, solar electricity, solar hot water, zero waste, humanure composting services. The permaculture design includes stocked pond, intensive kitchen garden, honeybees, mushroom yard, etc.
