Black Diamond Hipcamp
Beautiful but broken glass
Overall a good experience. The view was beautiful, especially in the morning when the sun rose over the lake. Unfortunately there was also a lot of broken glass around the site, which made it hard to keep my dog safe. I would go back if I didn’t have any young children or pets that could get hurt. Bret was very friendly and communicative, which I appreciated.

Mixed Feelings
We booked Black Diamond for two nights, but only stayed one.
The site is well-marked and Bret gave great directions.
Our issue was with the trash on the ground. The listing photos showed a meadow-like setting, but we found the ground to be covered in broken glass, chunks of bricks, and pieces of metal. It almost looked like dirty fill dirt had been dumped there then leveled.
Upon arrival, we encountered another camper who had also booked the site for the weekend. They had chosen the spot by the lake, but told us we could have it, as they only had a ground tent and didn't feel comfortable pitching their tent there. We had a tent on our vehicle, so the condition of the ground didn't affect us much.
We had a small dog with us and were careful where we walked and where we allowed her to walk. It's truly a shame the ground was like it was. The lake is beautiful and we spent the day birdwatching and listening to the frogs.
There is a little road noise, but nothing horrible. There is a lot of level ground, if you can find a spot without debris to set up on.
The biting flies and mosquitoes were also pretty bad. Even with bug spray, I came home with 15-20 bites.
With a little work, this could be a fantastic site. Unfortunately, we won't be visiting again.

Black Diamond Hipcamp
Dog friendly camping
Camping on Bret’s land was perfect! Open space for viewing stars at nite! Quiet and remote location! Would recommend for anyone and looking forward to staying again in the future. The dog enjoyed the open free and space to explore! Thank you Bret! Hope to stay here again for future adventures!

Peaceful stay by the water !
This hip camp is a very nice secluded area to spend a relaxing evening or weekend ! The pond was very nice and there is a trail system at the back of property that is in Wayne national forest. A lot of area to explore and close to a nice little town to get what you need ! The general area is beautiful and I will return to explore some more in the future.

Black Diamond Hipcamp
Hill Country Hideaway
This is Hipcamp at its finest. A quiet, secluded piece of grassy woodland perched on a lovely bit of water. Close enough to Hocking Hills, but who cares? Behind it is a trail network that weaves in and out of National Forest. And as another reviewer suggested, this is hands down the best place for stargazing in Ohio. Bring a lounge chair and a pair of binoculars and get lost in the cosmos.
The owner was quick to respond and very friendly. He has a real passion for the neighboring town of Shawnee and is eager to share his land with visitors.
Strong Verizon cell signal, weak but usable AT&T reception (if you must). The camping is primitive, but there are full RV trash/dump facilities just down the road at Begley's ATV Campground in New Straitsville.
