Located in the rolling Appalachian hills of Southeast Ohio. This farm has been in our family since 1869 when our relatives settled here from Germany. This particular location was originally a home site for my grandfather's sister, Lizzie. Originally farmed for cattle and sheep with many orchards over the years our property is now mostly mature forest. Southeast Ohio, including our property is known for its hilly topography and microclimates. Hills range from 400 to 1,000 feet. On our property you will find dry ridges with tree species like Chestnut Oak or humid valleys that resemble a moss-covered temperate rain forest from the pacific northwest. Much of our property has now reached late stage mature forests with an open understory. Nearly 500 acres of land with an additional 200+ acres of Wayne National Forest adjacent to our farm and close proximity to other Wayne areas for outdoor activities. We have nearly 10 miles of available trails for hiking. Many activities can be done at or centered around our property such as excellent and challenging road biking, mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, kayaking and boating. We are about one mile from the Little Muskingum river. A great river for kayak trips. The Wayne Kinderhook horse and hiking trail is roughly 5 miles from our location. Hike to the Irish Run Natural Land bridge trail also a short drive to the trailhead from our property. Riding your motorcycle up Rt. 26 is great! A great Ohio byway for scenic driving. This is also a great home base for dual sport or adventure bike motorcycle riders to camp while adventuring along gravel roads through Appalachia. If motorcycles aren't your method of entertainment and travel. Bring your horse and ride on several of our trails. From steep ascents to long flat ridge lines, you will have lots of time to immerse yourself with nature while hiking. We're next to a section of the Wayne National Forest and a short drive to other similar Wayne activities. It's a great place to hear a whip-poor-will sing on a spring night while stargazing as you see a satellite zip past in the sky. If you like to camp, but don't want the busy public park experience then you will enjoy the privacy of our camping location. Camp at our main site along the forest edge near the country backroad with a fire ring and mowed grassy area or there are also several backwoods primitive camp sites available for someone who wants to rough it. We are also only about a 20-minute drive to downtown Marietta. Where you can find restaurants, bars, and many other fun activities.

Aunt Lizzies Escape

100% (5)
Tent site · Sleeps 8
What a great option compared to a public camp site. You are guaranteed a quiet spot with only the occasional car passing by on the gravel country road. This site has an area designated for tent campers. You will be surrounded by hills on all sides ranging from 400 - 1,000 feet. Originally this campsite location was a homesite to a relative on my father's side of the family. Pitch your tent in this small clearing on the forests edge with close and easy access to and from the gravel road. There is a fire pit and firewood provided. A 10x10 elevated platform for those who have an inflatable base/air mattress and want to be off the ground and there is a level grassy area nearer to the fire ring for your tent. There is a picnic table and charcoal grill and composting toilet. Additionally, there is a cooking grate for the fire pit. The site is located about a 10-minute walk to the main house and will give you a great deal of privacy. Your right next to the beginning of our hiking/mountain biking trails on the northeast side of the road that separates our property. Trails are located on both sides of the road dividing our property and can offer several hours of hiking. Also, this is a great area to bring your mountain bikes, e-bikes, or dual sport/adventure bike motorcycles and explore the country and gravel back roads. Trailer your horses down and tie your horse to our hitching post at the camp site after riding our trails.

Masons Ridge Remote Campsite

100% (3)
Tent site · Sleeps 4
Want a good backwoods hike-to location? This is it, one with a remote feeling. A hike with initially steep assents and then a relatively easy ridge trail. Masons Ridge primitive campsite is at the end of a long ridgeline from our main camp site on the northeast side of our property. It is a flat area at the top of a hill within mature oak trees. The campsite and much of the surrounding woods is a late succession forest with good visibility under the canopy. It is strictly a primitive camping location. There is room for more than one tent. Although you are not far from a road as the crow fly's this spot is very private and is right next to one of the many hiking trails giving you access to wander. If you like backcountry camping (but don't want a 5–10 mile daily hike to get there) and you like being in the woods this site will be great for you. Please keep in mind this location is for those looking for a real hike to spot. Not a field close to the car. Depending on the person it's about a 30-minute hike or more. A camp toilet, waste bags, toilet paper, and privacy shelter are provided at this location. Because you are at the top of a tall hill there is cell coverage at this spot. Firewood is usually provided; however, it may not be available on occasion. So be prepared for this option by bringing a camp axe. Or ask me before your arrival. There is plenty of downed dead wood to use in our fire pit. The fire pit has a grill attachment to help with open fire cooking. We do allow for someone to stay at this location one evening if they are staying at one of our other sites. Please communicate this before using the site so we can manage its availability. People staying at this site are also allowed to use the composting toilet at the main site.

Lizzies RV Boondocking Site

100% (3)
Vehicle site · Sleeps 5 · Vehicles under 40 ft
What a great option compared to a public camp site. You are guaranteed a quiet spot with only the occasional car passing by on the gravel country road. There is one partial Boondocking RV space. I say partial because it comes with a 50-amp RV hookup, and electric outlet plus there is a composting toilet. There is no water, Wi-Fi or cell service in the valley along this quiet country road. While located only about 20 minutes outside of Marietta, OH you still feel away from it all. Also, room to pitch a tent. There is a fire pit and firewood provided. You will be surrounded by hills on all sides ranging from 400 - 1,000 feet. Originally this campsite location was a homesite to a relative on my father's side of the family in the 1800's. Pitch your tent or park your RV in this small clearing on the forests edge with close and easy access from the gravel road. There is a 10x10 elevated platform for those who have an inflatable base/air mattress and want to be off the ground and there is a level grassy area nearer to the fire ring for your tent. There is a picnic table and charcoal grill. Charcoal may be available but is not guaranteed. Your right next to the beginning of our hiking/mountain biking trails on the northeast side of the road that separates our property. Trails are located on both sides of the road dividing our property and can offer several hours of hiking. Also, a great area to bring your mountain bikes, e-bikes, or dual sport/adventure bike motorcycles and explore the country and gravel back roads. Or trailer your horses down and tie your horse to our hitching post at the camp site after riding our trails.

R-Frame

100% (3)
A-frame · Sleeps 4
This quaint glamping A-frame cabin is located in a valley behind the main house of the property. This cabin is completely off grid. There is no Wi-Fi or cell service at the cabin. Another smaller cabin is located about 50 yards up the hill in case you want to bring a friend who would like to rent it too. You have a private, tranquil setting while sitting on the deck giving you plenty of time to reflect on nature and decompress between the base of two hills, next to a creek in this long valley. Although not far from a road this location feels very removed. Several of our properties hiking trails may be accessed immediately from the cabin. Often you will hear and see a barred owl in this valley during the evenings. There are bird feeders and usually bird seed to put in them if they are empty. Most of the forest around this cabin has not been logged for 100 years or more. Giving you a mature and comfortable open woodland habitat to explore along miles of trails. The cabin has a full-size bed, a sleeping loft, and small wood stove for cooler evenings. There is a fire pit, composting toilet, and camp cooking utensils. This will include items for cooking over the fire pit flames or on a provided propane camp stove on our small cook station near to the cabin. We also provide; disposable silverware and plates, bed linens to those who do not have or wish to use a sleeping bag. There is also a wash basin to clean cooking utensils. A battery generator that can be recharged during the day via solar panels while you hang out or hike. A lantern and rechargeable cabin lights are also provided. Sleeping in the loft requires a sleeping bag and camp pillow. This cabin space is best for two adults. I have labeled the capacity as four. This is primarily to accommodate a family with children. There really is not space for four people in this cabin. There IS room in the loft for a person to sleep. It is roughly 6ft long. Or if a family would like to bring a tent there is level ground near the cabin to pitch a tent to make extra sleeping space for your kids. Or another more adventurous couple who doesn't mind tents.

Cabin in the Woods

100% (1)
Cabin · Sleeps 2
This site is for the more independent camper/glamper who has their own camping/survival gear. But maybe you or your significant other doesn't want to go full tent/nature mode! If you're looking for a spot that feels isolated this is your place. Especially if the R-frame is not occupied. The cabin sits in a valley behind our main house, situated just a bit up the hill, and about 50 yards from the R-frame - our other small cabin. This cabin is literally built into the surrounding woods. It is just above the valley floor before a steep edge overlooking the creek. Surrounded by young pawpaw and beech trees this spot (especially during summer) feels more removed from the nearby R-frame than its actual distance. If you want a great place to feel alone in the woods this deck or the provided hammock is the spot for you to chill. The property's many hiking trails may be immediately accessed by this cabin. Trails are also accessed by the valley below your cabin. Just head back into the valley following the creek. This small A-frame cabin has no insulation or stove to maintain nighttime warmth. So, bring an appropriate sleeping bag. The cabin has a roughly 12 x 10 footprint. Some lite bed linens are provided and pillows. You do have access to the composting toilet below. Please keep it clean. Or if rented with friends staying at the R-frame this will come with access to its other cooking amenities. There is an individual Solo Stove at the base of the deck and small platform off the deck to cook your meals with a small camp or backcountry stove. The antique bed provided is slightly smaller in width than a full-size bed so great for an individual or a snuggly couple.
