Absolutely wonderful. The view was amazing. Deck was perfect. The sunsets and watching the night sky come in is a emersive experience from this picturesque spot. Simple but it met our every need. Close to black mountian which is an adorable town. 10/10

Views with power
Great view! I typically backpack so I can sleep next to views like this. There was some air traffic and road noise but having a roof and power with that view made up for it! Nature sounds took over by 10pm. I was supposed to leave after 2 nights but plans changed and thankfully, it was available another night. I had 1 bar in LTE so my trip modification didn’t go thru. Doug stayed in touch (even while out of town) and we got it worked out. It’s 1,000% worth the 3 min walk to the lookout bench for sunset!

Camping with Dogs
We loved camping on the deck with our two dogs. The two door system is perfect for dogs. Even though other decks are nearby, it feels very private. We would definitely camp here again.

Really nice view and all amenities as promised. Close to Black Mountain and Montreat. Great trails and food nearby. This was my first Hipcamp experience and it was a very good one.

Go for it!
"Glamping" on the deck was a great experience!
The road getting up to the site off of the main road was gravel and wide enough for one car. We had no issues navigating up to our deck. The directions were clear and easy to follow.
There was enough parking at this site for two cars. There were about 14-15 stairs down to our deck. There was a porto-potty halfway up which ended up being a huge convenience to have.
The deck itself was about 70% covered by a tin roof. Electric, some string lights (already strung-up and hooked in), a table, 4 table chairs, a couple wooden chairs, and a water jug were already present. The table was great to sit at and play games. The only issue we had was with the water jug... the button you press to release the water got jammed and wouldn't pop back out until about 5 min later. We didn't use that again, and opened the lid to get water.
The deck itself was very spacious, and had amazing views. We were able to set up two large tents, and still had room to move about and enjoy the space.
We had two dogs with us. The gate system was great, however my large dog was easily able to jump the gate. (Not anyone's fault - just a note for people with larger dogs).
There was a solar shower provided, which we didn't use.
Overall, this was a great experience, and i would definitely recommend giving it a try if you're considering it.

SO DREAMY 💕🐻☀️🌈
This space is truly magical, and my husband and I loved our time here with our pup. It felt very private and secluded even if the other sites are nearby and it was never noisy. This was the most pet friendly site we’ve ever stayed and couldn’t recommend it more for pet owners; double gate system was a dream. The site gave us perfect coverage during a storm and we didn’t have to worry about a thing. We had the pleasure of seeing both a bobcat and black bear during our stay and enjoyed watching them from afar off the deck.
Just a few highlights you may experience:
- shooting stars
- incredible views
- rainbows after mountain storms

Amazing camping experience
One of the most beautiful and amazing places we have visited. We loved every aspect of the glamping decks. If you are thinking of booking do it! Quiet, surrounded by nature. Saw a deer, heard owls at night. Our kids loved it. Easy to get to, great amenities, and the views are incredible.

Great Views
Beautiful view, enjoyed watching the changes over the course of the day. It was lovely to camp out without a tent, but with a roof, without feeling closed in. The full moon washed out the Perseid meteor shower for us, otherwise it’s a perfect place watch an event like that. A bear ambled through the brush one evening, nice to watch from a safe distance in the deck. Whippoorwills singing at night were pretty cool too. Be sure to bring your binoculars. There are so many nice touches that really made the stay so relaxing and easy - electricity, lights in all the right places, the water, and a super clean porta potty!

Hornets & yellow jackets!
It was a beautiful view & weather lucked out for us. The downside was the intrusive bother of stinging insects. Yellow jackets were prevalent but not really bothersome. The extremely aggressive & large hornets, however, were a serious problem. I killed 5 in 2 days & we cut our weekend (my birthday trip) short a day early because my girls were too scared to stay on the deck or go to sleep. The adjacent deck had a portable potty that wasn't cleaned due to the pump truck operator having allergies to wasp, bees, hornets etc. Had we been aware of the issue we certainly would have made a different choice in accommodations. Most likely won't be back unfortunately. Owner didn't offer any type of refund or apology. Only stated the Yellow jackets were bad this summer after I told him we left early because of hornets. I am very aware of the difference in yellow jackets and hornets & they can both have a bad ending for anyone with allergies to any. Specifically my 1yr old & my 5 yr old.

Loved our stay & beautiful view.
This site is amazing! The view was breath taking absolutely beautiful. We had a large tent and it fit great on the platform. We saw fireflies at night (huge plus here). The directions were very clear and easy to follow. There was a thunderstorm we stayed dry on the platform. Electric outlets and water was provided. Close to town for some yummy breakfast. Felt secluded even though campers were nearby. I loved our time here and will definitely be coming back sometime.

Great for Birdwatching
We just spent 3 nights at Doug's mountainside deck. We had just completed a 6 night trip down Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway towing our teardrop camper. We weren't sure whether we would sleep in our teardrop and have the deck as our living room or sleep out on the deck. We decided to sleep in the open air using the foam mattress from our teardrop. The mountain air was delightful! After the first night, I pulled the big curtain to keep the near full moon out of my eyes. I also oriented so that the outer rail would serve as our headboard to keep the pillows in place. The insects were a minor nuisance: no-see-ums when the breeze died down, a few mosquitos, various insects attracted to the lights at night and some yellow jackets near the front gate but this is all part of being in nature.
If you enjoy bird identification, bring your Merlin App and binoculars - a new bird for us was the scarlet tanager. Enjoy!!

We loved tent camping on this beautiful deck! It’s a bit of a trek to get up to the site but the views are well worth it! I drive a normal 2 wheel drive sedan (not necessarily and outdoorsy vehicle) and had no issues. I would highly recommend booking, if you can snag the dates!

Amazing camping spot!
Our stay was amazing! The views are gorgeous and it was the perfect place to stay for a weekend getaway. It was a great place to have a dog and close to hiking/breweries in downtown Asheville. The roof/curtains were perfect for when it rained and it had everything we needed. Great glamping experience!

Excellent Concept, Camp On A Deck!
This is an new concept to me, renting a covered deck with electricity and a view. Both my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. It never rained, but if it did, we were well covered under the lovely tin roof. The port-a-potty is just that, but it was very clean and well lit. Considering it's way up in a mountain, you feel completely safe as there are other decks around you, but you can't see them from yours unless you really really try, and why would you? The decks are staggered and so you feel you're not alone, but have total privacy. I would have no hesitation recommending that you stay here. We stayed for three nights & though we seldom go the the same place twice as we're always looking for somewhere new, I'd stay here again with no hesitation. I had a couple of questions for the owner and he responded quickly.

Very convenient and a great view
Beautiful view and we were fortunate to have all quiet neighbors. The treehouse itself was clean and had plenty of space to spread out a sleeping area and still have room for chairs around a card table. It was a very enjoyable few nights and we hope to visit again.

Stunning Views and a Great Location
Doug's camping deck was fantastic. My dog and I spent two nights on one in a series of several decks along a secluded private drive, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and thoughtful amenities to make everything just that little bit easier to enjoy than your average DIY camping experience. Location was perfect for our tastes - secluded and private but still only about a ~10 minute drive from amenities down the hill, and ~20 from the expansive food and beverage scene in Asheville, not to mention a great jumping-off point for any one of a number of hikes in the surrounding mountains.
Overall, I loved it. The description prepared us for what to expect, and the deck itself delivered. I would happily revisit one of Doug's camping decks in the future and recommend it to anyone looking for a novel camping experience near Asheville.

It's exactly what they say it is
The view was breathtaking! The treehouse had everything you need for glamping. I especially loved the sensor activated lights on the stairs. The restroom was super clean and I appreciated the proximity since it rained while we were there. Easy check in. Easy to find. Wish the weather would have been more forgiving but what can you do? Mother Nature does as she likes. Would definitely come back.
