This place was an amazing place to REALLY experience nature and disconnect from our modern virtual world! I will definitely be returning and highly recommend people check this place out. The cabin I stayed in was super clean and very private. Definitely my top number one place to visit anytime. I'm in North Carolina!

I loved camping here there was this huge observation ridge and the tents had everything you’d need, plus the site had bundles of firewood available as add on or purchase on site. It was very cold when I went so I am glad they included a space heaters for the tents. I only wish I known where it was sooner. I brought my dog along as well for her first camping trip. Having everything available made it easier to look after her.

We had a beautiful view. Our yurt stayed very warm and cozy bc of the heater. We were very grateful bc it was a cold night. The yurt was clean and the bed was comfortable. We will definitely be back!

Across two pre booked reservations at site 3 (one with a group) I stayed a little over a week at the campground.
Positives: The camp provided all amenities listed that I saw. Showers never ran out of hot water. Host was responsive and kind. Facilities looked maintained for example portopotties looked to be emptied regularly and showers were in fair condition.
Negative: The site 3 picture appears to be older and across the campgrounds from a time when they are not leaf blower blown clean, so it looks more forested. Site 3 unless you are facing the road which is the passage for all campers and so somewhat regularly used on the weekend, or setup camp facing the adjacent campsites your primary view is what I assume is a clay drainage pond that has little to no growth on its boarders. In a year or two as plants grow in it may look like a forested pond but at the end of 2025 currently it looks like a big clay pit recently dug with excavators. This is only the primary view for site 3 and 4, other sites appear to have more wooded views. If the image for site 3 was more representative as I consider it I would have chosen a different site and not camped for a week besides the fresh clay hole.
Again the host was kind and the campsite as a whole seemed maintained. Also full disclosure, I was sick a majority of this camping trip, while I assume it has not affected this review, disclosure in case.

Starlight Hills provides great privacy while still providing the amenities of a larger campground such as showers and potable water. The overlook provides an excellent view of the surrounding area, and it is only a couple hundred yards from the site we stayed at. The campsite itself was quite spacious with a good size fire ring, and other sites seemed similar. Would recommend and stay there again if I’m in the area again.

Starlight Hills continues to be our favorite camping spot in North Carolina. This was our 4th year here and we will continue to come back! Highly recommend as it’s not a far drive from Charlotte but easier to access nearby hiking spots/mountain towns.

Site 5 - Starlight Hills Campground
I’m a solo van camper and had such a great experience staying at site #5 right across from the overlook - such a beautiful spot. The hot tub and sauna were great, totally worth it. The showers were nice with hot water, and there’s a place to charge those lovely electronics. William and his crew were genuinely welcoming - you can tell they care about the land. I also felt safe.

This is a great campground for a weekend in the mountains. Site 4 was well kept with a picnic table and fire ring. We enjoyed the short walk to the showers and porta-potty. Site 4 is closer to the road, so there wasn't a whole lot of privacy from cars driving by or others walking by. The overlook is beautiful. We enjoyed drinking coffee while looking at the sunrise on the mountains each morning!

Was perfect blend of camping with peace and tranquility and convenience of firewood, clean porta potties, and showers. Our family enjoyed our spot. My wife and I were in glamping tent and my daughter and her husband kept in their EV in camping mode. So nice not to have to mess with pole tents for a change. Also, William is great host!! My only suggestion would be to cut 2 of the small trees at the site entrance. Very tight to get a vehicle in. All other sites looked more accessible.

We loved the Williams Land. The site was beautiful and roomy. There was other sites but no one was on top of each other. Very dog friendly with a lovely views.

Very great set up at Starlight Hills.
A lot of useful amenities and would definitely recommend to new campers and seasoned campers.

We were really happy with this camping site. Our site (site#1), being close to the overlook had an absolutely beautiful view of the forests and mountains. The nights, when clear, gave way to a gorgeous display of the stars. Staff is friendly and helpful. Corey who first welcomed us was very helpful in explaining all the info and locations of facilities.
Showers are available and great, restrooms are portapottys, however I've been told that construction on improved facilities are underway. All in all, we had a great experience and will definitely be back nex time.
Ps: a nice and friendly store / small family diner called Becky's Country Store and Grille nearby that opens early. Got a good breakfast, great price and camping supplies we missed.

We had amazing time staying at Starlight campground. Super peaceful place and beautiful property. The host is super nice. Made sure we had everything. We had to feel comfortable. Highly recommended. We'll definitely be back soon.

My husband loves the primitive side of the campground - even the outdoor showers - his favorite. He was a little hesitant when we got to the site. We arrived after dark due to traffic and the tent site was off in the woods - not far from your vehicle but if you didn't have flashlights it would be hard to see.
Absolutely loved Starlight Hills Campground - the outdoor showers were our favorite! Hot water with a hint of coolness in the air.
My only recommendation is that you add a porta john at or near the end of the campground road (past site 9 and the Luna Dome). Definitely not an issue but for those late night runs/walks to the bathroom at the overlook, a little further than you may want to go by yourself in the dark - just my two cents worth.
I was hesitant about making the reservations but the more reviews I read the better I felt about staying.
Great place and we will definitely be back.

We have loved tent camping at Starlight Hills and decided to give glamping a try with the Luna Dome and it did not disappoint. Such a magical little space with fun mood lighting. Literally watched the sun set from bed. We did the spa add-on and definitely recommend

I so appreciate all the work and upgrades since we camped here last. Everything you need, wonderful spacious sites, just a great place to kick back and enjoy outside! It made for a fantastic friend weekend.

Wow, what an INCREDIBLE camping experience. The pictures don’t do it justice, the views were amazing! The site itself was so clean and well kept! We felt so welcomed by Cole and truly at home. We are already planning our next trip to come back!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Site 5 - Starlight Hills Campground
My boyfriend and I van camped for a night otw home from a mountain getaway. We have been to a few different Hipcamps in NC now, and this was our favorite one so far! Of course there are some roses and thorns, so I’ll share both.
Site 5 was not level enough for us, but directly across the driveway was another area that wasn’t attached to any site we were able to back into and make work. There were port-a-potties placed every so often between sites for convenience, but the shower was a hike down towards the entrance. We didn’t use either since we were only there one night and we had our own port-a-potty.
We were adjacent to the community area, so we opted to hang out there and build a fire. We thought maybe other campers would stop by, but we only saw one other duo walk by the entire night, and they didn’t even say hello. The view was spectacular though, and access to two very comfortable hammocks was clutch.
On our drive out the next day, we could see that more is being done to build up the camp. Maybe it was so quiet while we were there because it was a weekday night. But the privacy was really nice. We would definitely stay there again!

We stayed at site 7 and it was so amazing! There wasn’t a long walk to the outlook, water was ready for us when we got there. The trees provide shade, so although it was 82, we barely even broke a sweat! The hammocks at the lookout were so peaceful! My fiancé wants to stay here every time! We’ll be back a good few times before summer!
Downfalls: Site 7 and up (8&9) the sky is blocked by trees so there is no star gazing and the daddy longlegs will fall on you. You have to go to the outlook. But EVERY other campsite has open skies and beautiful views!
The road going in is a little edgy, but we drive a Chevy Malibu and we were just careful and it worked perfect!
My fiancé had NEVER been camping and was extremely nervous but she ending up LOVING IT! Thank you sooo much Starlight Hills for being the best campground!

Cool, laid-back spot. Everything was clean and setup nicely for us. This was a pitstop for us on the way to the beach, which worked out nicely not having to pack much camping gear and worry about the setup/breakdown of camping. Outdoor shower was pretty cool and surprisingly warm instantly. Would recommend.

Everything is orderly and well laid out and marked. It’s nice to have a hot shower after a day of exploring. It’s located In a convenient area to be a base camp for your stay. Friendly and extremely helpful staff. The area offers lots of trails, quick access to a state park and you are in the middle of leaf watching region.
From the facilities to the location this is a very great choice.
