(Note: no fireworks, crackers, sparklers, or garbage burning are permitted) Tip: check out the 'Phases of the Moon' calendar in photos before booking! The Spruill Farm belonged to the Spruill Family for over a hundred years and has just been set up as conservation easement protected land. It includes hardwood forest, swamp, a beautiful swimming beach* on the Albemarle Sound - one of the largest freshwater sounds in the world-, acres of farmland, vegetable garden and perhaps the largest fig orchard for hundreds of miles around. The purpose of the Spruill Farm is to further environmental research, promote ecological education and sustainable practices, and provide access for the public to the ever-diminishing shoreline experience. Please enjoy the incredible sunsets and woodland views, while respecting the serenity of this unique gem on the inner-banks. Wildlife on the property include Red Fox, River Otter, and 95 species of birds, including Bald Eagles (2 nests on the farm), nesting Osprey, Wood Ducks. Visit the 'Spruill Farm Conservation Project' on inaturalist(dot)org to see all 95 species, and upload any images from your observations. Because it is a nature preserve, please read the guidelines and rules closely if you choose to book with us. *Note: the shoreline changes with the wave action and the seasons. This makes the Bobby Wilkins shoreline trail so beautiful- always changing. Site 1
Sites were nice, clean, and not to close to one another. Site one had plenty of room for our roof top tent. I would recommend for a quick weekend get away.

Well, if you've read the reviews, believe what you read! Beautful sites, well spaced, water front, with amazing views and incredible sunsets. The forest and swamp trails are just the icing on the cake. But also, as others have mentioned, there can/will be wind. We had been following the weather and had seen forecasts of 10 to 15 mph winds and knew we would be fine in our tiny camper. So when we got 3 hours solid of straight line winds coming at us acroos the sound at 40 mph it was a bit concerning. Don't get me wrong, we had a great time. Just be aware that if you are tent camping please pay close attention to the weather and esoecially winds from the north. Of course if you need a break from the wind you can always walk in the forest, or do like we did and head for the bar at The Landing at Mackey's Ferry for some goid food and local beers!

Can’t wait to come back!
We absolutely loved camping at Spruill Farm Conservation Project. There were magnificent trails (with otters) and a great little sandy beach. It was such a great spot for camping with young kids! Camp sites were spacious and private! We can’t wait to come back this summer!!

The campsites are right on the water and the porta potty was kept very clean. Our kids loved splashing on the small beach between sites 1 and 2 for hours.

The Albermarle Sound Rocks!
Spruill Farm was fabulous! Much could have been confusing but all directions were clear. I was worried about the porta-john but it was extremely clean and handily close during a night-time visit. The kayak was waiting for me when I arrived and the charge for it felt 100% worth it as I paddled around the cypress trees several times, way up the coast once, and once during a gorgeous sunset. I will definitely be returning. I saw a lot of fish jumping so I might bring my fishing pole next time.
