This 1890's farm was many things in times long ago! It acted as a working Tobacco Farm, a country store and was known to have the purest spring in the region by the indians and mountain men! It also has a dark past complete with murder and moonshine! For a full history check out this book, Red Hill. The untold story of the Whitson Brothers and the Murder of Kit Byrd. The short version of the story: The farm also acted as a country store that was also a front for moonshine. The Whitson Brothers who owned our farm had a deal with Kit Byrd;  a mountaineer from "on the mountain" who had a knack for making good shine. It ultimately was the death of him at the hands of the 3 Whitson Brothers. This murder years later led to the death of a large percentage of the population in this small NC Mtn town.  Learn more about this land: On a mountain by a river in a true "holler". This 1890's historic tobacco farm features our Root Cellar Tiny House, perfect for 2-4 people.  Full over Full Bunk Bed, Wifi,  AC/heater, tiny fridge,  small coffee maker, one car parking in front for easy access. Please keep that in mind and respect it. Throw trash away, don't leave out food or trash or you might wake to a big bear treat! Slow down when driving into the holler! Help us help our environment! The toilets and outdoor showers have been carefully planned out to be environmentally conscious, with special consideration to our creeks that drain into the Toe River. The "outhouse/camp" toilet has instructions so please read it and also has a foot pump hand cleaning sink beside it. Root Cellar Tiny House
The tiny home was perfect for us. Very quiet and peaceful. We used the home as a home base and spent most of our time hiking around Roan Mountain. Great place and great hosts. The animals were a fun addition.

Unique, adorable tiny house!
This tiny house is so unique and cute! It has so many amenities that were so helpful. The compost toilet was really easy and it had a great sink for washing your hands. They had a coffee pot, microwave, refrigerator, coffee, filters, plates, and mugs. Under the house there was an outdoor kitchen area with a sink, stove, pots, pans, and everything we needed for cooking. They even had a heated outdoor shower! There is a double or queen bunk bed and it fit 4 of us comfortably. They had so many animals; ducks, chickens, rooster, dogs and a cat. My kids had so much fun playing with them and they even got to feed the chickens and ducks. The owners have an outdoor adventure company, and we went kayaking down the river. They also take people tubing and rock climbing. It was the perfect weekend trip in the mountains!

Love the Root Cellar Tiny House!
The Root Cellar Tiny House is such a great place to stay! We arrived and Scott and Christy were quick to greet us. Scott gave us a tour of the property and made us feel right at home. He told us about a few nearby hikes, walking trails, and even a suspension bridge that we got to walk over. So much fun! We had a good time on their little farm and got to see all of the amazing projects they have going on there. We were awakened by roosters the next morning and it felt so good to be in the country! Plus, it's not that far to downtown Burnsville, which is such a cute eclectic town. Thank you for an incredible experience. We cannot wait to go back.
