I recently stayed at this property and wanted to share some details for future guests. The hike in is about two miles with a steady 7° incline, gaining roughly 1,300 feet in elevation. It’s a challenging trek, and I wouldn’t recommend it for beginners or those not used to longer, uphill hikes—good hiking shoes and decent fitness are a must.
Once you reach the first cabin, the view is truly spectacular. We spent some time there with Doug, the land maintenance guy, who was welcoming and easy to talk to. We stayed in the second cabin. Both cabins are very rustic—there is no electricity, and the accommodations are basic, so be prepared for a true off-grid experience.
There’s also a short but steeper quarter-mile hike up to the larger bald, which rewards you with amazing panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
Overall, the property offers beautiful scenery and a genuine rustic atmosphere. Doug was a great presence during our stay. If you’re looking for a remote, back-to-basics mountain experience and you’re comfortable with a strenuous hike, this could be a good fit. If you prefer more amenities or an easier hike, it may not be the best choice for you.
