Mountain Creek Rest is a rural, creek side get-a-way in the mountains with 2 beautiful, huge, tent sites and a mini-cabin, also on a large site! It does not have hook ups, power, or running water. You get there on a gravel road with 2wd. 5.5" of clearance is recommended. (google your car) Heartstone tent site is a stunningly beautiful, romantic campsite for 2! There is a new, large tent pad if you have children! The Diamondstone site is also a unique, beautiful, one-of-a-kind site! It has a beautiful, furnished, shelter cabin which is provided for you instead of using your tent!!! Leave your tent and tent set-up at home! There is room for your tent and your children out front, right beside the creek! Islandsite is an equally beautiful tent site ideally for two, but the 10x12 platform can accommodate a 6-man tent, best for 2 adults and a couple of kids! You won't want to leave, but if you do there are many recreational opportunities in the area such as hiking, biking, rafting, fishing, and more! Stays of 6 days or more get a big discount! Enjoy the fresh, cooler mountain air, and the beautiful, settings! Heartstone is located on a modestly pitched, terraced slope where a divided mountain stream, the tumbling Squally Creek rejoins itself! The sunlight filters down through the forest canopy providing a warm, inviting glow!! There is a 9'-6" x 10' wooden tent platform, and if needed a new, larger tent pad! Islandsite is located at the top of the island where the tumbling Squally Creek divides! Access is provided by the 40' long fallen tree bridge! Islandsite is amazing and very unique! Diamondstone, Heartstone, and Islandsite all feature a picnic table, charcoal grille, and comfort facility. They are all within a short walk from your private parking! Enjoy evenings at the new fire pit area with benches overlooking the fire pit and creek! Explore the island on the 400' island trail, or go downstream to a nice pool for dipping! Heartstone tent site is one of two neighboring, stunningly beautiful, romantic campsites. They are Heartstone and Diamondstone! Heartstone is the huge, beautiful, terraced tentsite located on the convergence of 2 mountain streams! Diamondstone is the hand built mini-cabin neighbor next door, also on the creek! The two sites are neighbors but the thick woods provide a nice visual barrier for all! The gravel road is uneven, and 5.5" of ground clearance is recommended. (google your car) You won't want to leave Heartstone, but if you do there are many recreational opportunities in the area such as hiking, biking, rafting, fishing, and more! Stays of 7 nights or more get a nice discount! Enjoy the fresh, cooler mountain air, and the beautiful setting! It can be 92f in town Robbinsville, and yet only 80f along side cool, fresh Squally Creek!! It is perfect for two, but other family members are an option! Heartstone is located on a modestly pitched, terraced slope where a divided mountain stream, the tumbling Squally Creek rejoins itself! The sun light filters down through the forest canopy providing a warm, inviting glow!! That very same forest canopy and Squally creek itself often provide a cooling breeze and welcome shade on those warm days! There is a 9'-6" x 10' wooden platform, or a 13'x15' earthen pad for your tents(s), a picnic table w/charcoal grille, and comfort facility all within 30' of your private parking! There is also a nice fire pit area with benches overlooking the fire pit and creek ! Explore upstream on the 400' island trail! Be considerate of other guests when applicable. Contact me for discounts when staying 7 nights or more! Up to 4 more of your family members on the adjoined large tent pad is also an option! There is a modest pet fee to be found in the "Extras" portion of your reservation application. There is parking for a second vehicle 75' away if needed!

Come to the beautiful, fresh mountains of Western North Carolina!!! Temperatures creek side at Islandsite seldom make 80f!! Although it could be 93f ten miles away in Robbinsville, the shade from the high forest canopy and the crisp cool waters of Squally Creek almost always keep your site comfortable!! The beautiful Squally Creek property with a 10'x12' tent platform overhanging the creek is amazing. There's a picnic table, charcoal grille, and brand new comfort station, all on Mountain Creek Island! Squally creek divides forming trails in a deeply wooded 400' long island for your use! The tent platform is situated right on top of the creek providing a magnificent view of Squally as it tumbles down over the rocks and ledges right by your site! Islandsite is 100% carry in/out, including personal waste using the new bathroom! Hurray! No more shovels!! Simply use the provided heavy duty, double lined zip locking personal waste bags! TP and other sanitizing products are also provided! Hang out and relax on this very rural mountain property, or be adventurous! There are day hikes locally, some of which include the Appalachian Trail! Or you can just go left out the driveway and climb to Tennessee! You can also stay on the property! Cross Squally creek, go straight up! its a steep unmarked climb up to a spectacular mountain top view! Then go down the other side! to an old gravel roadbed that will get you back! Please register your pets in the "Extras" portion of your reservation application. Hit or miss, sometimes the owner stays nights in a nearby camper as maintenance and improvements are never ending! He is a good guy, and keeps out of site! Be aware! This property is not on the beaten path! Do not come in a sports car. Vehicle clearance of around 5.5" is suggested. (google your car's ground clearance) Please register your dog(s) in the "Extras" portion of your Reservation form. Be sure to cancel if there is a forecast for very heavy rain. A special refund will be provided. The island can have portions that flood dangerously when 3 inches of rainfall occurs over a short period of time such as over night. This seldom happens, but it can!

Comfort upgrade!! Diamondstone is a "one of a kind", romantic, and stunningly beautiful mini-cabin camp site!!! Pack up all gear as if for tent camping, but leave your tent at home!!! Diamondstone is a brand new, shelter cabin for 2! (You can bring a tent for 2 more family) The lovely Jotul gas stove will take off the chill, but will not fully heat the cabin in cold weather!! HOWEVER, don't forget everything else you need for camping!!! There is no power, water, lights, mattress, or BEDDING!!! It is amazingly cool and breezy here! You are shaded by high forest and mountain!!! It is often 92 in town Robbinsville, and not even 80 creekside at Diamondstone!!! New is the Jotul stove with glass doors for ambiance and warmth on cool evenings. Tho, it will not fully heat the cabin in cold weather!! It's upstream neighbor is the acclaimed Heartstone tentsite! Though they are neighbors, there is a nice buffer of tall trees and mountain laurel between the sites! There is also an option to bring your children! If you wish you can set up a tent out front! It is an amazing and romantic small cabin with beautiful handmade furnishings inside, and a wonderful creek-side yard out front on Squally Creek! It has all of the outside amenities you would expect, such as a comfortable bench at creek side, a small dipping/swimming hole, charcoal grille, picnic table, firepit, and a tent pad for extra family!!! Prepare as if for tent camping when you come. Only in this case your "tent" is actually a unique, hand-built mini-cabin with a queen size bed platform inside. (Be sure to bring your air mattress/comfort pad and sleeping bag!) It also has a coffee table with chairs, dry countertop for food prep and cooking with a camp stove. (NOT A GRILLE!) Features a covered porch overlooking the creek with yet another table and chairs for your morning coffee, lunch, or dinner! Diamondstone is 100% carry in/out, including personal waste using the new bathroom! Hurray! No more shovels!! Simply use the provided heavy duty, double-lined, zip locking personal waste bags! TP and other sanitizing products are also provided! Please register dogs in the "Extras" portion of your reservation. The gravel road is 2wd accessible, but your car should have 5.5" of ground clearance. ( google your car)

The Islandsite is probably one of, if not the most unique and beautiful campsites I’ve stayed at. Brian communicated everything we needed to know ahead of our arrival. We will definitely be returning. Highly recommend bringing everything you plan on needing before arriving as the road into town is quite lengthy.

Brian has created something so incredibly special here! We stayed at Diamondstone and he has added many special touches- the electric candles, little propane stove, wooden benches and handrails.... He is also INCREDIBLY responsive! We could not figure out how to work the padlock to get into the cabin (note: the numbers must be lined up in the GREEN section of the lock) but he answered right away even though it was 10pm (second note: there is no cell service there so you have to go a ways to find it). The cabin is not insulated and the stove does not put out much heat, so if you're coming in winter make sure you have good cold weather gear. My son set up his tent outside and as we both brought winter gear we had an wonderful, peaceful time reconnecting with nature and each other. Thank you Brian for being a wonderful host and creating such a special place.

I cannot recommend this campsite enough. The sound of the creek flowing right beside the site was beautiful and made the entire stay feel calm and peaceful. The campsite itself was spacious, giving my dogs plenty of room to roam off leash while still letting me keep a close eye on them. I also loved having the island trail just a few steps away for easy exploring. It was everything I needed for a simple, stress-free camping trip that still felt secluded and quiet. Perfect in every way. I hope to visit again soon!

Amazing campground out in the mountains. The gravel road was a little longer than I thought but I had no issues getting up there in my lowered Mazda3. Brian was a great host and stopped by to make sure I had everything I needed. I will definitely be back again!

Brian was an amazing host! With the bad weather during our week long trip he moved us into the cabin for an amazing deal! He also took us in for coffee and hot chocolate one morning and turned up the furnace since it got colder! If you are up for an adventure search “Cherohala Skyway” when you get into town. Dear Brian, we had an amazing vacation staying at your campsite, thank you for everything! :)

We truly enjoyed our stay here! This was our second time camping at Brian’s land, and we finally got to meet him in person , he is so kind, caring, and genuinely checks in to make sure we were comfortable. He even helped guide us with some great hiking routes nearby, which made the trip even better. The campsite itself is beautiful, peaceful, and the perfect getaway if you love nature. We highly recommend this spot, and future Hipcampers should know that the host is very approachable and the land is amazing. We will definitely come back again! 🌲🏕️

I stayed in this site for a few days, and the cabin site a few days. Both are gorgeous! The terraced design of the site is charming. The directions were accurate, the road easily navigable in a civic, and Brian made me feel very welcomed. Close to beautiful hikes and scenic drives. The natural beauty, privacy, and quiet here is far beyond what you'll find in a normal campground.

I cannot emphasize enough how beautiful this spot is. The stream, the trees, the quiet. I have camped in almost every state, and this is easily one of my favorite sites. The road in a bit bumpy, but doable. I easily made the trek in a civic. The road is also great for taking a scenic walk. The covered porch was perfect for a rainy afternoon, and the heater was a welcome addition on cool autumn evenings. Close to the stunning Joyce Kilmer Wilderness & Nantahala National Forest. I hope to come back again!

The heartstone site was amazing! Sure it was rainy and cold but nothing a tarp couldn’t fix. Beautiful views from the site, nice trail to walk along the river. The drive up was a breeze nothing crazy even after all the rain. Will defiantly be coming back again!

This campsite is a unique mystical little campsite deep in the forest with two roaring creeks, its own little nature trails, and a great host! Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning.

Islandsite was hands down the most beautiful campsite we have ever stayed at in the eastern US. The lack of cell service paired with the tent platform over a rushing and babbling creek made for glorious and chilly night’s sleep. We stayed 2 adults and 2 little boys and they spent the entire time exploring the creek with moss-covered rocks to their heart’s content. The camp bathroom was convenient, especially for the kids. We were expecting it to be completely primal and private, and not expecting the host to be staying in the camper on site, but Brian was very kind and helpful. The directions were accurate and the recommendation for the firewood for sale up the road was great for grabbing on the way in. Would definitely come back to camp or stay in the cute cabin.

Hidden Gem Worth Every Mile

My wife and I needed a much-deserved break from our daily routine, and The Heartstone was exactly what we hoped for. From the start, Brian went above and beyond—he made sure we had clear directions and even shared his personal number to make our arrival seamless. The site was exactly as described, if not better. It was incredibly spacious, easily fitting our Gazelle T8 tent and my 4Runner loaded with all our Overlanding gear. When we ran into an issue with some damp firewood, Brian didn’t hesitate to help. He brought us fire starters and kindling from his own supply so we wouldn’t have to make a trip into town. That kind of hospitality is rare and genuinely appreciated. He also stopped by a few times throughout the weekend while working on his own site projects, always checking to make sure we had everything we needed. It’s clear Brian takes great pride in what he’s building here—his respect for nature and vision for expanding the property into something even more beautiful really stood out. He walked us through his plans for future sites, and you can tell he’s putting real thought and heart into every detail. This place is truly underrated and deserves more recognition. Even with the six-hour drive from South Carolina, it was absolutely worth it. The gravel road leading in might look intimidating at first, but don’t let it fool you—my wife made it in just fine with her stock Mazda CX-5 on regular street tires. If you’re looking for a peaceful escape, here it is!

Had a great experience tent camping at Islandsite! The campsite layout is one of the best and most interesting I've experienced. Got to meet Brian, he's very nice and knowlegeable about the whole area. He has 3 sites , all very cool designs, can't wait to try them all!

I almost didnt want to write a review because I dont want people to know about how amazing this place is!! Brian is such a fantastic guy I had to say so! Wonderful stay, easy drive in an out, hands down best camp toilet setup, 45 minutes to the nearest grocery store. Felt very private, Brian was so respectful and thoughtful and he did a wonderful job building the sites and Island Trail. Cant wait to return. 10/10 one of my favorite places Ive camped. And I downloaded the Gaia app Brian! Its great thanks for telling me about it haha.

We loved tent camping here!! It was literally a mini paradise. The most beautiful site we have ever stayed at. The directions from Brian on how to get there were clear and made finding the site very easy. We are looking forward to our next trip and booking this site again!

Very hospitable, friendly host! Extremely polite. The site is remote and as pictured. I fully intend to visit again, next year. Leaves peak change is nearing (guessing a week plus) - traffic may be heavy getting there. The scenery makes it a worthy destination.

This campsite is amazing! It’s super private, right in the middle of the mountains, and there’s a little brook running right next to it with trout in it. The whole place is so peaceful and beautiful—perfect for getting away from everything. My family of three had a great time just relaxing, listening to the water, and exploring around. Definitely one of the most serene spots we’ve ever camped at, and we can’t wait to come back.

We loved this site! The creek is so peaceful and the cabin was perfect. The site is easy to find using Brian’s directions. I’d recommend getting there before the sun goes down because it is very dark (but great for stargazing!).

Perfect spot to disconnect and be in a serene place all weekend! PLEASE BEWARE there is a giant active yellow jacket nest right on the bank of the creek at the site. If you have kids or are allergic, just be mindful. Brian was very easy to communicate with. The directions he sends you beforehand are spot on and we had no problem getting there. We did download an “offline map” (iPhone) before we lost service which was great to use on the way out of there. Wasn’t necessary but it was helpful. Even during the day, the cabin is pretty dark so bring extra lighting. Everything was very clean. The wood stove kept it nice and cozy. We will definitely be back!

What an amazing find! This was by far the most secluded camping experience we've had to date. There is a half mile between the next site. Island site has a trail through the woods that connects 3 sites (no one was at these sites or entire visit), perfect for a family vacation! There are two tent toilets and one structured (no carry out waste). Water access within feet of each site! No cell service here! I cannot stress how amazing this site is! I will be planning a family vacation, taking all the spots next year! We lost our keys at site, but Brian helped us get a locksmith out to laser cut us a new car key! The people in the area are so nice as well. Loved seeing a sign that read " If you're lucky enough to live on West Buffalo, then you're lucky enough".... Thanks Brian, for sharing your slice of mountain heaven!

The cabin is very secluded and peaceful. Right by the river. This is such a magical space. Will be back! Ps. Bring lighting- string lights(battery powered), lanterns, headlamps because the cabin gets very dark at night.

Awesome place. Visit if you want to live close to nature and away from luxury. Camping tent was close to river . River and night sound help to relax and have sound sleep. Disclaimer: if you are in luxury hotel type guy then don't visit. If you like near to nature and enjoy raw natural beauty then it's perfect place for you

A Thoughtful, Dog-Friendly Escape

We stayed at Heartstone and absolutely loved our experience. We like remote sites away from others and although this spot had neighbors, we never saw them other than on the road. The site is built with so much intention—you can tell every detail was carefully designed to make guests feel at ease. We brought our dog along, and it was the perfect setup for all of us. On our second day, it rained nonstop, but even that couldn’t dampen the experience. The additional rain in the stream created a steady, soothing rhythm—though it did get quite loud at times, which added to the adventure more than anything. The water itself was beautiful, and the entire environment felt restorative and grounding. Heartstone is truly a special place, thoughtfully made, and we left feeling recharged. We can’t wait to come back. Be sure to pay close attention to Brian’s directions. We had no service and we’re glad we had saved his message ahead of time.

This place is beautiful, enough so that I just stayed for the second time. The setup is optimal and provides plenty of space to spread out, yet it's very intimate. The outhouse is comfortable and sure beats other methods while camping. I will say be prepared if the weather is wet because the canopy surrounding the site is thick and it can stay damp. The access road is easy to traverse, and while I have a truck built for rough stuff, a regular vehicle can easily make it back to the site. Thanks for another fun getaway Brian.
