Calling all urban campers visiting Durham! There are many local natural attractions (Eno River State Park, Falls Lake, Jordan Lake etc.) for hiking and boating. Additionally we are within biking distance of the heart of downtown Durham! We have a large backyard with room for tent, as well as a super cozy popup camper available for you to rent out. This property certainly has an urban feeling, but we have a fire pit, hammock, and compost toilet

We live at the end of a quiet block in the city of Durham! This is urban camping, and you may hear neighbors or some highway sound especially in the winter. We have a spacious, fenced backyard, with a communal fire pit, outdoor table and compost toilet. We host two sites: a Popup camper and a tent spot. You can feel free to pick whatever spot in the yard feels best for your tent setup! Alternatively, we can accommodate a camper van in the driveway. We will only ever have two parties camping maximum, as campers will be sharing the fire pit and toilet.

Our Popup Aliner camper has a heating fan and AC unit that work well. It also has cold water running into the sink for dishes, hand washing, and drinking water. There is the tiniest of fridges for some half and half and a takeout box! We also provide a Keurig and coffee. However, there is no bathroom in the camper. We have an outside compost toilet adjacent to the camper in a Popup tent for privacy. At this time, there are no shower facilities. The camper can be set up to have two beds (both singles) or have a bed on one side and a dinette on the other. Feel free to let me know how you want it set up! We have dogs, but during your stay, they (and we) will stay out of the yard! If you rent the camper, you may share the yard (including table, fire pit and compost toilet) with one other HipCamp party tent camping. Otherwise it’s all you! Feel free to borrow our kayak and even our bikes if they fit!

The site matched its description, which I always appreciate. It was what I wanted, clean and safe. Carter communicated well and was hospitable. It is an urban setting, so if you want country quiet, this is not your site. I also think a tall person would struggle in the space. But for my needs, it was great

A bigger table outside, with seat like a picnic table might be helpful. The table in the tent and the lantern not working work. Thank you for letting me park on the driveway closer to tent, on the street would have been too far and I like to keep my car in sight. Overall charming place, bed is comfortable. Didn’t meet host. Recommend for passing through night.

Tent Spot on the End of the Block

Carter is super kind and responsive to any questions and help needed. The place is located in a pretty urban area which makes it great for exploring Durham and being back in just a couple of minutes. If you’re just roadtripping for a night or so as I was, this spot is nice and very central. Planet fitness is right around the corner so if you need a shower it’s extremely close. Would recommend it to the solo traveler just looking for a quick pit stop in Durham

Was nice to have the AC for air flow and the heater in the cooler mornings. nice yard with chairs. It's tiny, simple and cute.. just enough for one person to crash for a bit.

Camping at Carter's house was exactly the simple and convenient spot I was looking for. I appreciated the location, so close to Duke campus and in a good area where I felt secure. As an experienced RVer, I pretty much knew what to expect in Carter's camper, but I was pleasantly surprised at what a cozy, easy night of sleep I got. Little touches like the coffee maker within arm's reach made things even nicer, and it was nice to have the clean water supply available as well. Overall, this spot met my needs quite well at a very reasonable price. I would book again and recommend to others.
