The weather left a little to be desired but that can’t be helped! Scooter was communicative and offered up advice on things to do when wx was not so good. Anyone NOT okay with this spot has not camped at OBX much. Thanks! See ya soon!

Very beautiful camp site. It is nice because you can choose if you have a tent you can setup near the water or in the sheltered area in the trees. The trees made it feel much more secluded even though it is just off the highway. Scooter was a very responsive host and made sure we had a great time

My wife and I had a nice time at the Hip Kite campsite. It's in a nice location that's not too busy, yet also has all of the typical beach activities. The best part was the privacy. The campsite is only for one group and we enjoyed that very much. Being early August, we expected the mosquitoes to be a problem, but with a screened in canopy, they weren't too bad. The trash trucks that come super early to avoid traffic was a little annoying, but understandable. Overall, I would recommend this site and we hope to return very soon.

Totally awesome place well worth your time and money! Hip Kite Camp was exactly what we were looking for- more privacy and space than the campgrounds, way quieter, perfect private beach access, and some SHADE!!! It’s an empty undeveloped lot in a prime location, on the Sound side, with residential neighbors on both sides. Dairy Queen ice cream is a few driveways down the road, literally 3 min walk away! Simple setup with a picnic table, some tiki torches, and a few chairs. We had an AWESOME TIME

We loved the site! Gorgeous views and great breeze. Loved pitching the tent in the soft grass close to the water. Scooter was so kind and attentive, but let us do our thing. Would book again!!

We had a great weekend staying at the Hip Kite Camp and Scooter communicated well and answered all questions quickly. Very easy to work with.
The location is very unique for this area. There is some traffic noise from 12, but not bad at all and you do get a sense of privacy and the bonus of being a few steps from the sound where we took in some great sunsets.
We had some windy days, as is common there, but the trees were a great barrier we had no issue with our screened tent and shower tent. Scooter has a bike and kayaks at the location that visitors can use.
We had a fun weekend and hope to return soon!

Cool spot. I pulled my 10’ Rustic Trail teardrop and my buddy was in a Dodge Winnebago. I had to back in but it wasn’t a problem. We rode close to 50 miles on several days on our e-bikes. Good central location to ride bikes north and south. Nice spot to hang out on the sound side. We will be back.

Scooter was a great host - very responsive and friendly! This is a great site with access to the water and an amazing sunset view! We enjoyed the cooking area outfitted with a NPS style grill and picnic table. This site felt secluded, eventhough it was close to town. We would definitely return!

We had a great time at Hip Kite Camp! It’s just as described. There were tiki torches available which was nice since camp fires are not allowed - it also helped with the mosquitos - but still bring your bug spray. The access to the sound was great and it was so fun to watch the kite surfers each day. We’ve previously stayed at Frisco Campground and this will now be our go to spot when visiting Hatteras. Our dog loved this site compared to a crowded campground and so did we!

Scooter was great, the view out into the sound was incredible, and we had a lot of privacy tucked into the oaks and pines at this flat camp site. You’re situated pretty close to highway 12, but the road noise is similar to what you’d expect at the big campgrounds on the island - but here you have a lot of space and water access to yourself.
Site was clean and it’s really nice to be able to walk to breakfast, lunch, or dinner up and down the island.
Check out Mirro’s, and Waves Grocery and Deli; a couple great local spot. Waterman’s Bar and Grill (at Real Outdoors) has an amazing sunset view, excellent food, and great service. Only 30 minutes from Cape Hatteras, this spot is in a great location to explore the whole island.

Perfect minimalist site. We needed a last minute layover and we found Scoote’s place. Easy to find and exactly what we expected. The sunset on the water was gorgeous as was sunrise the next morning. Wish we had more time as it would have been an excellent kayak/canoe spot.
