Nice, fairly private location
June is truly a lovely host and the site is spacious and fairly private. There were many spaces for tents and the site has a picnic table and fire pit ready for use, as well as a hammock and patio table. The road is nearby so you’ll hear occasional cars, but it’s not too busy. Lightning bugs were out at night, there’s some good daytime shade, and good hiking around the area. No cell service for miles.
Be warned there is poison ivy in a number of places along the site at present, particularly by the hammock. June’s two dogs are outside only dogs who roam the property and do their business out in the yard. She’s very kind to offer to keep them away if they bother, and we were happy to have them around. The immediate campsite was mostly picked up, but there were piles of dog poop along the edges of the site and near the hammock, and it was a warm day so the smell carried.
There’s also a cow pasture next door, so we had whiffs of manure every now and again. Wildly, about 10 cows broke into June’s yard during a rain storm in the evening and June was not home. They mostly wandered her garden nearby, but had a close encounter with one of the cows who wouldn’t leave us be. We were able to scare it off with the help of June’s dogs and she returned home to call the ranchers to round them up. It was a camping weekend like no other.
I’d recommend this place - a good location for a private retreat to hike and enjoy the area.
