Come experience private mountain meadows, on 70 acres, at the crest of the South Mountains. Camp at one of three sites, or hop around during your stay on the meadows below Bolin Knob. This entire listing is one booking, you’ll have the mountain to yourself. Views to the west of Mount Mitchell and the Blue Ridge Mountians; views to the north of Table Rock and Grandfather Mountain and to the east direct views of Silver Creek Knob. Stargaze the Milky Way at night with very little light pollution, relax by the fire, or explore the property and Bolin Knob. Hike adjacent to the property on 1,000s of acres of public land on South Mtn Game Lands. Nearby recreation: South Mtn State Park and Lake James State Park; fish/float the Catawba River in Morganton or Marion; bike the Fonta Flora trail at Lake James. Campsites we offer, pick one when you arrive: A. Spring Flat: the lowest elevation and easiest to access, has clear views to the east of the South Mtns. Listen to adjacent spring bubbling out of the mountain and wake up with a sunrise over Silver Creek Knob. This site is easy to access and best for low clearance vehicles. B. Old Homeplace: tucked into the mountain, this large, flat site has a firepit and several trees for hammocks. Clear views to the north and east. This is the best site for ground tents. C. Windy Ridge: the highest elevation site with sunrise and sunset views. The wind blows up here a lot! See the sun fall across the Catawba River valley and watch the shooting stars at night. AWD/4WD or hike to access this site. *We highly recommend AWD or 4WD vehicles, when you leave the state maintained road you'll be climbing 400 ft to the meadows. In order to access the highest elevation site 4WD is needed most of the year. The majority of the road is packed gravel but some of the campsites are accessed through bumpy fields. You're welcome to park on the gravel and hike a short distance to the campsites.

Your own private mountain!
My wife and I loved this place! William, the host, keeps it very clean and well-maintained. He’s also very welcoming and clearly explains how to find and enter the land (it’s not hard) before your arrival. The campsites are all spacious, flat, easy to set up, and the two sites with views have nice amenities (fire pits at both, picnic table at one, benches overlooking the ridge line at the other). We can’t wait to camp here again and are looking forward to our next trip out.

This is one of the best views we have come across yet. The owner is easy to work with and very accommodating. If your looking for one of the best sunsets in the mountains, this is it.

Site B was fantastic. There was cover from the wind and you could barely hear road noise (as other reviews mentioned) as opposed to the slight noise and occasional strong winds at the top, at camp c. The stars on a clear night were perfect. The property was large and private. Its just the kind of views you would hike hard for without having to go on a hard hike. My family had a great time. We would love to come back.

Beautiful Site!
Such a beautiful property! Would absolutely book this site again. First two campsites are pretty and quiet, but the views from the third site up on the ridge is spectacular. A little bit of road noise coming from Rt 64. We had incredible weather and a great time stargazing.

Amazing overlook at campsite C. Steep incline on the way up- recommend a 4dw higher clearance vehicle. There were some dogs barking down in the valley that kept us up later in the night. But overall the 360 view was Devine.

Beautiful and private property. We camped at site b, it is a large and level site with amazing views. William was an excellent host with clear directions to the campsite. So peaceful and private, we loved having the whole mountain to ourselves.

We stayed at site B, which has both a fire pit and a picnic table. It was perfect. We walked up to site C for sunrise. Lovely views. Quiet, open spaces. Def putting this down as a favorite site for future use!

The place was beautiful even though we decided to not spend the night due to the amount of rain . We are looking forward to returning when rain is not predicted for the entire time.

Firefly’s!!!! ✨✨✨
Me and my partner spent the entire month of august camping down the east coast starting in Maine, ending in South Carolina- this was hands down the best place we stayed. We stayed at campsite B because we did not have a AWD car to make the climb to campsite C- Though one night we walked up to C with some blankets to watch the sunset and it was marvelous, the view was unreal and as it got darker there were countless firefly’s! Campsite A and D can definitely be camped at but do not have fire pits, whereas the others do- B and C also have hammock posts that were very nice :) The entire experience was magical and is definitely on our list to return to in the future ✨

Absolutely stunning views and so much privacy! Truly the best place camping spot! We put our little teardrop camper at site B and had perfect weather all weekend. Loved having space for the dog to run around and it was less than half an hour down to Lake James (and Fonta Flora brewery) for a fun afternoon "out" too.

This was the perfect tent site to wake up to on my birthday! My partner and I chose site C because we wanted the best views and we were not disappointed. I drove my little suzuki grand vitara which is a compact suv with 4wd but didn’t end up using the 4wd to go up the steepest part of the drive. Take that advice as you will. The campsite was nice and peaceful and we we felt safe even though we were the only people on the mountain!

Storm watching perfection
What an amazing view! We had clouds for our entire stay and a wind storm that was one of the wildest things I’ve ever experienced but what’s a camping trip without an adventure right? We relaxed and watched lightning strikes all over the horizon! You can’t go wrong staying here!

Best spot ever
It was the best spot I have ever camped in. Gorgeous views. Pleasant solitude without complete isolation. The owner is the sweetest person who came to our rescue when we had car issues. I intend to go back as soon as possible.

Blue Ridge Paradise
We had a fantastic time at Blue Ridge Stargazing, this is honestly one of the best value Hipcamps that we’ve stayed at. We opted for site C, you cannot beat the views that it has to offer and there are quite a few nice spots to set up a tent. Our dog had the best time having such a large space to himself. The fire pit was great to have and the grill provided was a huge bonus! The campsite was well maintained and felt like a very private space despite being in view of the road. Noise was minimal, but at times we did hear some nearby dirt bikers, nothing super loud though. We’ll definitely be coming back, for 30 bucks you really cannot ask for a better space to enjoy some time in solitude out in nature.

William was great at communicating details ahead of time and the property itself was very well-marked and maintained. Each campsite had gorgeous views and though secluded, we felt perfectly safe and our dog loved getting to run around off-leash. We would love to visit again.

Great Views, and very private
We stayed at Site C, it provided a lot of privacy, space, and great views. This is definitely somewhere I would go again, but we all had a great time. Getting to site C definitely required 4WD. The only thing we think could’ve been better was not hearing motorcycles, cars, and trucks sometimes in the evening.
