Cool Tiny House on Babbling Brook
Sweet little cabin perfect just for one. I did not spend too much time there besides sleeping but the property is very inviting and full of blooming plants. Cabin is cozy and indeed tiny. Listing is accurate, you will likely be sharing bathroom and kitchen with others there. Bathroom could use some attention with cleaning if Im honest. Do be prepared for some bugs, esp. in high summer, there is an uneven spot above the door where they sneak in to visit!

Best camping experience ever!
Bugs in a jar is the perfect spot to go camping! The place is beautiful and well maintained and they are incredibly nice people! So many great spots to choose from if you book early and the spots are free! I took my 5 year old and puppy camping for the first time and it was the best weekend ever! We can’t wait to be back! Sam was very accommodating and helped us with bringing things from the car to fishing with my son!!

Closest to Shindagin Hollow
Most soundly I slept in months. Relaxing and quiet, with sounds of frogs, birds, and little else.
Both tent sites (which we rented) and tiny houses are on property. Sam is very accommodating and friendly.
This is the closest non-primitive camping to some of New York state's best mountain biking at Shindagin Hollow. Also, only 22 minutes from Ithaca.
We highly recommend and will return.

Cool Tiny House on Babbling Brook
Going to Sam’s Land and Tiny house is like being in or on, “Candy Land.” So much visual eye candy of Art and Play. The back drop is a beautiful green hillside landscape, lush garden and pond. The babbling Brook will soothe you to sleep.

Great place to camp!
This is a great place to camp! Sam is a super host! Very attentive, friendly, he offered us plenty of accommodations. The bathroom is very clean, there is hot water and it’s located within a walk distance. The farm is about 5 min from the highway, 30 min from Ithaca. We went to Robert H Truman state park, but there are plenty of more places to visit around!

Great camping accommodation. We were in the piney grove site. It’s very secluded despite being in close proximity to the house and other sites. One note though- if you are non able bodied this wouldn’t be a great site for you. This site requires hauling your things up a pretty steep hill. Sam had a tarp over the picnic table and tent area which was super helpful. We didn’t end up using the bathroom at all, but it is available to guests in addition to a community kitchen area which is nicely supplied. Sam was very helpful when we arrived and made sure we had all the info we needed. The site is about a 20 minute drive to Ithaca which was nice.

Bugs in a Jar Farm
We loved camping on Sam’s farm. It’s a great location just outside of Ithaca, but allows you to experience the beautiful NY countryside. We stayed there three nights. Sam and two other people living on the farm (sorry I forgot their names), were very nice and considerate hosts! Sam left us a large tarp to put under our tent, which helped us stay mostly dry through a big storm. Ron, helped us to retrieve some good dry firewood and covered our fireplace when it rained. All these small details allowed us to have a wonderful visit at the finger lakes region and stayed affordable. We also enjoyed the animals on the farm. Sam’s dog came to greet us every morning with a cheerful attitude! My daughter also loved the cat.

A Great Place!
We had a wonderful stay!! The grounds are beautiful, campsites are close enough to the main house/bathrooms to feel safe and some are also secluded enough to really give that “deep in the woods” feel. A win-win!! Donna, Rob, & Sam were extremely welcoming and helpful, and Sancho the dog was such a loving little guy! We also enjoyed taking advantage of how close we were to both Ithaca and tons of surrounding waterfalls & hikes; our hosts helped us out with finding some great spots in the area. We would love to come back and would definitely recommend to others!

More than a camping experience
I stayed a few days at Bugs in a Jar farm where guests are invited to dinner and the emanating feeling is communal. The Finger Lakes Trail is very close and can be reached in multiple places.
If you're interested in organic gardening like me, you can learn a lot from Sam. He's always happy to give tours of Bugs in a Jar and tell you all about what he is doing.
Sam's Feng Shui IQ is much higher than my own and it helped me to see the aesthetics arrangement. I was lucky to be able to help out a little here and there.
Anyone staying here would be wise to pick Sam's brains on a number of topics ranging from gardening to the balance of Nature on the planet and how to think about the future.
I hope to return next year.

Highly recommend
Returned to Bugs in a Jar for another weekend. Easiest camping experience I've been to. Drive up, throw up the tent, and you're done. No excruciatingly slow check in process. Nothing in the way of getting out to the state parks in the nice Finger Lakes area

Relaxing, Clean, Chill. Great Stay!
Bugs in a Jar is so charming, Sam is a chill and welcoming host and the whole energy of the place just tells you to "relax." Sam reached out before my arrival to give me a heads up on his whereabouts, and arrival was smooth. I enjoyed hanging my hammock in the pines, felt very secluded but if all sites were occupied you would know others were around. Fresh fire pits were really appreciated, large stacks of firewood nearby with some sorting of the new/seasoned wood to be expected. Common area was clean, I only used it to grab some water and connect to Wifi. Bathroom & shower are clean & appreciated. Lots to do in the area, and if I were backpacking the FLT I would absolutely make a spur to catch a night (or 2!) at Sam's place.

Bugs in a Jar Farm- the cool camp!
Bugs in a Jar Farm is an awesome place to just get away and listen to the birds and the sounds of the woods. Sam is a wonderful host, he is giving and caring and wanted to make sure that everything was available that We needed. The property is glorious, it has a beautiful pond and as I understand it the steps up the side of the mountain were hand built recently. The amenities are just fine, and I am definitely coming back and bringing friends! Bravo!

A Great Green Getaway
A great property and host! Although it unfortunately rained for most of the time I was there which limited my desire to explore the vast property in-depth, accommodations were cozy and Sam and his boon canine companion (Sancho?) were quite entertaining; Sam was also willing to explain in depth how to set up my own raised garden beds - truly, he's a man committed to cultivating his garden.

Valley Sanctuary w/ lots of Nature!
What an amazing time to be a bug ! Sam graciously greeted us and helped us get setup with our tent in the "pine grove" site on a hill with a pond view below. There in a valley (Prospect Valley), there were no signs of signs, public infrastructure, or suburban sprawl, yet conveniently I had internet access and a hot shower w/ flushing toilet available just a 30-seconds walk down the hill. In the daytime was the constant sound of a variety of birds chirping, including the amazing veery thrush (so ethereal and beautiful!); in the night was a symphony of frogs and the lightning bug show was only matched by the incredible number of stars visible there, where light pollution is at a minimum. We brought a solar power bank and LiOn cooler/freezer for food and very much enjoyed the use of Sam's hand-built firepit, which was rather great for fun, relaxation, and cooking after sunset. Sam is a bit eccentric, which actually made him a great host with several good stories, yet we had plenty of time to ourselves to enjoy the area, too. Definitely recommend this site and also a hike at nearby Watkins Glen !

Great stopover while on my way back to Michigan! "Bugs" is a hidden gem in the Finger Lakes area, beautiful setting with lots to do locally. I will definitely be coming back for a longer stay. Sam is a gracious host, laid back but professional. Safe for women traveling solo.
