This place could not have been better. Tiffany is a great communicator and sent lots of local recommendations in advance. The cabin is adorable super clean, and well stocked. It was warm when we arrived after a long drive and Tiffany came by to check in on us. Absolutely perfect!

If you’re sitting there reading this and thinking about booking.. do it! This place is a hidden gem! I have not one thing negative to say. The hosts were helpful & willing to go above and beyond for us. I could go on and on about all the things we loved, the water is incredible. You can hear/see it sitting by the camp fire. The horses were breath taking. You can feel the love in the air that the hosts have for their place. I can’t wait to come back. If you’re looking for an experience with your family… do it!!

The Homestead Cabin
Tiffany, Jonah and whole crew including their dogs are super friendly. This is my family’s second time visiting and we love it. We bring a large group and two dogs and everyone has a great time. Looking forward to next year already!

The Horsebarn was the perfect setting for our family reunion for Father’s Day, 2021. The perfect combination between rugged nature outing and comfort, you are surrounded by water and woods that are inviting and relaxing. The campgrounds are organized to maximize space, making sure no one is left out of the warmth of the fire pit. The design also maximizes neighborly connections between the other cabins.
Tiffany, Adam and Makena fuzz over your stay making sure that all details are covered. We enjoyed their extra attentions with a tour of the horse stable, meeting their majestic thoroughbreds: Derek and Daisy! We plan to make a stay at the Trailside Ranch a family tradition.

Cozy cabin, rustic but with some extra touches that make it more than just a shack. Great location, easy access to many trails within the western preserve area. Perfect place to disconnect with comfort and convenience.

The setting and property were lovely. The cabin and property are well designed for folks who are traveling with horses, hunting or planning on large gatherings where most time will be spent outside. The outside fire pit Area and screened Porch were ideal for socializing. Beds were comfortable and new. These were the positives.
The negatives were although there was sleeping for 10, there was no place to sit. ( a small sofa) tables inside and out could seat 6. There is only enough silverware for 3-4 people. The kitchen isn’t well equipped ( no can or bottle openers...no cutting boards...etc) The refrigerator was not working and we lost the food we brought to spoilage. There was no hot water. Period. Not even tepid. We guessed the owners had turned off the hot water tank or turned it down and forgot to put it back on. They had not cleaned properly and there was mouse feces throughout the kitchen, bedding and tables. Dirty ashtrays had been left for us to clean. The firewood we pre-purchased was wet...having been left in the rain the night before instead of stacked on the rack in the porch ( we nicely stacked it for next renters even though we could not use it). The mice were out and visible throughout the cabin...which is understandable but if you know it’s the case put down traps or clean the poop up before folks check in. No one came to check on us until the end of our second night there. Not again not for $300. But if you have 10 people looking for a cheap place to drink and sit around a campfire it might be worth it.

We had an amazing weekend at Sugar Shack! The cabin is beautiful and directly above Otter Creek--it was so peaceful and relaxing to hear the water right outside all night, and to sit on the porch with the firepit and enjoy it through the screens. We appreciate the dog-friendliness, and love that there were so many trails close to the cabin. We hope to return many times in the future, and I also am planning to come back with my horse to explore the trails that way sometime soon!

We had a great stay. The cabin was amazing. The host and her family were some of the friendliest welcoming people I’ve ever met. The property was beautiful, well kept and clean. We loved staying here.

Such an amazing cabin! Much bigger than we thought it would be, super clean and very new. Overall a very spacious and calming atmosphere, with the sounds of the river right beside you! This property also backs on to some really nice hiking trails, which were really nice to walk.

We had great time. Cabin we stayed was spacious enough to host 10 adults. Night outside fire pit. Tiffany was helpful and always available to answers all questions we had. Best part of our trip/stay was limited cell service, was much needed for us! FYI: Only Verizon service works in certain areas. Overall I would rate this pace 8/10.

Cabin was great, much nicer than I expected and the beds we clean and linens and blankets just washed. Great outside space at the cabin and a ton of hiking and creek related activities literally just outside your door. Hosts were super friendly and helpful too. Would absolutely stay again. Note cell service was basically non existent - which was nice!

Okay, let me just say: The Sugarshack SLAPS. I can't recommend it highly enough. It is super well maintained and has everything you need. The screened in porch was such a peaceful place to hang out. We liked it so much we set up an air mattress on it and had the best nights sleep listening to the babbling brook behind the cabin. (The lofted bed is also super comfy) The swimming hole is a refreshing way to wake yourself up in the morning or cool off after a hike. The stream has a lot of great rocks for sunbathing, and there are chonky little frogs everywhere you look -- it's the BEST. Heather was such a kind and gracious host, and on more than one occasion went out of her way to make sure we were having a perfect stay. She even gave us a tour of the stables and introduced us to her horses, which was super nice of her.
Long story short, we didn't want to leave and can't wait to go back.

We loved staying in the Sugar Shack! Heather is a great host and makes sure everything is set up for an easy check in. The Sugar Shack is near two other cabins and shares an outdoor fire pit with one of them, but you'll still feel like you have plenty of space. There's a lovely outdoor screen porch you can access from inside the cabin - it faces the creek and has a privacy screen and its own little gas fire pit table. Inside the cabin there are tons of windows to let the breeze flow through. Fully equipped kitchen, comfy couches, and a nice loft bed upstairs. The property is a cool ranch with plenty of animal friends. The nearby swimming hole provides a great chance to cool off. Bring bug spray if you're in the warmer months. We'd come back here any time!

Heather and her family gave us an amazing experience. They were so kind and accommodating. The Sugar Shack was beautiful and comfortable; you could hear the flowing creek water outside which was a bonus.
The screened-in porch was awesome, no bugs and a private fireplace powered by propane. The cabin was a perfect amount of space and felt like home. There were great hiking trails within walking distance, as well as Big Otter Lake and Shingle Mill Falls (beautiful). Many other places within driving distance.
Overall we had an amazing experience and would love to return. Definitely would recommend to anybody looking to explore the Adirondacks who would like a comfortable place to come back to.

it was a great well made super simple beautiful place!!!
favorite part was laying in bed listening to the river and the rain. so many great things about the sugar shack.
Heather was a doll and very helpful. Def would go back with the kids next time!

Trailside Ranch cabin was amazing! Initially, the cabin we were interested in was already booked but Heather quickly suggested we stay in the Horse Barn cabin. Heather was quick with her response and very accommodating. She met us at the cabin and gave us a few recommendations for hiking. She also invited us to meet her horses and goats.
The cabin itself was perfect for our group of 6. The creek behind the cabin is beautiful and lovely to watch as we sat outside on the porch. One of the coolest parts of the ranch was learning that it was all solar powered. It definitely was a wonderful and relaxing trip out of the city. Heather was a fantastic host!

The Trailside Ranch was a great getaway! We stayed at the recently finished sugar shack and it was the perfect spot for a couple. The loft bedroom was great and with a window slightly opened, we were able to hear the creek flowing all night; very calming. Ours and every cabin on the property has a full bathroom and full kitchens. The patios are all enclosed in bug nets which are great seeing the cabins are close to water. The swimming hole was very refreshing despite its cold temperature, and the rocks below the surface are so smooth bare footing it is no problem. We would definitely recommend this property and hope to make it back.
