The camp was first built in 1905 by Dr. Goldsmith and family. The doctor and his family used the camp for summer vacations. During the winter the camp was rented out as winter hotel for loggers. Ice was harvested from the pond and stored in what is now one of the cabins. When our family bought the place, the hotel was falling down and the buildings were in disrepair. Geoffrey, the family caretaker, has spent the last few years cleaning up the site. All that remains now of the hotel is the chimney while the ice house has become a cabin and has been improved and ready for visitors. We have a double futon, small wood stove and gas burners for a cozy indoor experience. With 840 ft of pond frontage and 4.4 acres you can pitch a tent on the banks of the pond, up in the woods, or stay in the small cabin all are included in the cost of booking! Swimming and boating in the pond is obligatory. Year round fishing has long been a tradition. The spring fed pond is home to large and small mouth bass, northern pike, crappy, and blue gills. There are a number of ponds and state lands nearby. Accommodations include two outhouses and two docks so no waiting. There is a canoe and rowboat available and life jackets. The camp is car accessible Mid-May to the end of September. There are summer cottages across the pond but not much happening on our side. Cedar Lodge, the nearest bar/restaurant, is about 5 minutes away and very popular all year round. I loved this location! Despite being Labor Day weekend the lake wasn’t too busy. My pups loved how spacious it was and loved hanging out in the water! A perfect weekend escape for us. We will definitely be back.

Dog and Fishing Slice of Paradise

My husband, 2 dogs, and I had a fantastic time at this property on Sterling Pond!! It really is secluded and private, with only a couple waves to people passing on boat. My older dog who has never been able to be trusted off leash was even able to just drag her leash around because the space was so big and peaceful!! I am usually distrustful of cabins that hang out somewhat unoccupied in the woods (bugs and small animals housing usually), even brought a tent for back up, but the cabin was SO clean and beautiful. Perfect for our small little family and we felt safe and comfortable hanging out and sleeping in there. You can tell Tedra and Geoff love and care for the property a lot, as well as the people staying there. When we arrived the windows of the cabin were opened so the breeze had a chance to cool the inside which was much appreciated!! We printed driving directions to Catamount Mountain ahead of time which was a beautiful short hike. My husband was in fishing paradise! Fishing right off the dock or in the rowboat available, they wouldn’t stop biting! They also had a book there that helped us identify what fish he was catching! You are definitely off grid at this place which was a really nice break for my husband and I whose phones are usually going off nonstop. Can’t say enough nice things. If you’re looking for a fishing paradise, dog paradise, peace and quiet, and don’t mind a few bugs, this is the place to be. 10/10 recommend.

My Fiance and I stayed for two nights with our dog and had such a great time. Very private location which was ideal for our dog to be able to run around off leash. It was a fishing paradise, beautiful spot for sunset, lots of supplies for water activities and all of the cooking appliances you could ask for. We would love to come back for a longer stay. Highly recommend!

Terra’s site was great. The cabin was so cozy and had everything you could need. It was great being right on the water and all the water toys. Definitely would love to go back in the warmer weather.

This place is really cool. It has tons of character. If you like relaxing in front of a warm campfire or doing a cookout then this is the place for you, with several fireplaces/woodstoves/grills to choose from and a shed filled with firewood and kindling. The cozy white cabin was stocked with everything imaginable for a comfortable off-grid getaway. We did opt to use our own queen-sized inflatable mattress, though, as I was a little too tall for the bed provided.

Beautiful Getaway!!

Very beautiful place to stay! So peaceful and relaxing. The rustic camp pretty much has everything you need for your stay. It’s intimidating upon arrival wondering if you can survive without some modern amenities but you quickly learn to adapt and embrace the challenge. The main cabin is beautiful and uses every bit of it to tuck away anything you might need. It was warm the first few days we were there so no need for a fire in the cabin. But the last day rained all day and after being chilly all day the fireplace was the most welcome luxury that night! Our dogs were in heaven the whole time as they had free rein to explore. The fishing was incredible! Fish after fish was caught the whole time we were there. All in all a very wonderful time was had by all!!!

Terra and Geoff provided an absolutely wonderful camping vacation for Tim and I. Sterling Pond is truly a magical place with all of the amenities provided for us. From canoe to can opener we did not lack for comforts. The accommodations were exactly as advertised. We had peaceful evenings filled with great food, good laughs and overall an awesome respite from the everyday grind of life. The cabins and outhouses were very clean and there was plenty of supplies in the event you forgot something. Our dog Gracie had free rein to run around leash-less and enjoyed every moment of the trip. She even ventured into “paw high” water, which was a first. We will be sure to return to our new favorite camping spot and thank our gracious hosts for making our stay filled with great times and awesome memories. The Clarks 2024

Such a great spot! The hosts have provided so many helpful things (cooking equipment, multiple fireplaces, boats and equipment, games, etc.) -- it's such a nice touch. It was raining for most of our time there, but there was still plenty to do.

Super cute yard w a nice spot on the pond, some outdoor furniture, a really cool outdoor fireplace and chimney, overall a ton of amenities like a limited power source, gas cooking, and kitchenware. The futon is pretty comfortable with the extension, overall very welcoming.

Cute cabins right off the water

A really nice spot right on the water, just as pictured, cute cabins are set away from each other a few hundred feet with fireplaces and a couple tent spots in between. Geoff was nice and helpful. Even the motorboat and jet skiiers were nice enough to give us the lake for a little while when we all piled out in the canoe and rowboat, I really appreciated that. Very interesting to think of the structure that used to surround the fireplace while sitting in front of it at night and in the daylight. We hope to come back soon with more time for exploring the grounds and water.

Cabin Livin!

I absolutely love this spot, it’s quiet, it’s secluded, sure there are houses around the lake that tend to jet ski but it’s fun to watch as you sit by the fire. If you like to fish, it’s a fishers paradise. We stayed in late august and there was barely any mosquitoes! My dog did not want to leave, almost refused to get in the car when it was time to pack up and go. Haha. Thanks so much!

It was a fantastic place. Tendra was always a text away and Geoff was great in making us feel at home when we arrived. The location and activities on site were more than we expected. Great time and we would definitely go back.

Few Days of Serenity

Such an amazing few days spent here. The cabin was perfect and all the things provided to cook and clean with was excellent. The property is absolutely perfect with the different fireplaces and outdoor amenities. We will definitely be booking more trips to come stay and enjoy the absolute serenity of all the surroundings. The dogs especially loved it and i think explored every inch of it.

This place is purely magical. I brought my two dogs, and we had a blast both at camp and in the surrounding area. There was water, woods, options for campfire, some simple luxuries if needed like lights, a fan, and cook supplies. We spent the evenings and early mornings at camp, then explored the surrounding woods of the Adirondack park, toward the Canadian border, and little parks in surrounding towns. There isn’t cell signal for most of the immediate 30-45 minute radius, which really is just more bliss! Tedra was also accommodating to my two shelter dogs when I asked that no one be there to greet us at camp due to our long trip to get there, and that my dogs are picky with humans. She left very detailed directions and I was able to find everything perfectly!

We loved our weekend at Sterling Pond. We drove to through the Adirondacks and climbed Mount Debar. A quiet peaceful place that doesn't disappoint.

This place is amazing. Quiet, and cozy, with lots of opportunities to enjoy the world around us. Beautiful view of the stars, multiple designated fire pits including an old fireplace hearth from the early 1900's. My kids had a gf rest time exploring in the woods surrounding the cabin, fishing and catching an impressive pike. So good fishing too!! This is my favorite hipcamp stop.

Private and unique
Sterling Pond
We really loved how much space and privacy this spot gives you, you basically have an entire side of the pind to yourself, 90% of the other camps are on the other side (noise travels from the camps including kids and construction but you get use to it). No frills and the cabin has everything you need to cook and be comfy during your stay. Very dog friendly with lots of activities from bocce ball to morning and evening paddling (weekend daytime paddling was a no-go due to jet ski traffic, less busy during the week). We cooked some of the best meals of our lives in the brick oven and enjoyed fires in the various fireplaces. The only store within reasonable distance is a gas station/convenience store, so make sure you grocery shop beforehand. Will definitely stay again!

Remote, rustic, and so peaceful!
Sterling Pond
This a beautiful remote camping site. We couldn't believe we got two cabins and docks for only $75 a night. The site is very rustic but has lots of amenities. It was perfect for my sister and I, and we will definitely stay again in the future!
