Salmon River Solitude
Salmon River Solitude
This location is steps away from the Salmon River and only about 100 ft walk to the shores of Lake Ontario by way of a grassy path. We sat in our campsite overlooking the river. It is a quiet spot across within a quaint residential neighborhood bordering the river. In October the salmon come to spawn so you may see some swimming up river. Dean greeted us when we arrived and gave us a short tour of the area. On our last night he came out to ask how everything went and thanked us for booking. Fresh water hook up is available.

Salmon River Solitude
Location is a hidden gem
Salmon Solitude is a perfect location if you enjoy a variety of water sports. This hipcamp is located in a quiet community of summer homes on a narrow strip of land between Lake Ontario and the Salmon River. The spot is in an open grassy area along side the river that is used for parking and boat storage across the street from the hosts summer home. Along side Dean's summer home is a short, wide grassy trail to Lake Ontario. Dean has created a nice spot that will accommodate tents and Campers with a picnic table and fire ring. There is a Porta potty on site and Dean ran a household extension cord to the site and a hose for potable water. Since it's not 30amp most won't be able to run AC or microwaves without a generator but lights and basics will work. There is a state campground near by where you can access showers and dump stations if needed. Dean was super helpful with suggestions of things to see in the area. We hiked out to Salmon Falls which is a 110 foot waterfall. We explored the area taking our kayaks out on the river and caught a number of fish. We then paddled out the mouth of the river into Lake Ontario and down the shore getting out in front of Dean's summer home. From there we easily dragged our kayaks down the grassy trail back to out site. I suspect this site will be an amazing grab during the salmon run. An hour away is Boldt Castle which is cool. The neighbor has a dog that runs loose. Seemed friendly but be aware of that. We loved our peacef stay with Dean.
