NOTE: THIS IS A QUIET AREA for reconnecting with nature. Not suitable for parties or loud groups. For generations, the majestic waterfall has been revered for its spectacular beauty and power. It is considered a sacred site that has been central to local land rematriation work with the Kanienkeha:ka, also known as the Mohawks, Coursing between two outcroppings in a deep ravine, Kahonrakén:ra Waterfall crashes down over mossy rock shelves into a hidden pool, which then empties again into the river, running into emerald swimming holes and through dramatic clay beds. The effect is transporting. Truly, it is one of those extraordinarily beautiful spots on earth that makes you feel like you are in another world. There are two tiny cabins on the property. Both sites have extra space to set up a tent if needed. The Forest Cabin is insulated with hemp, has electric lights and outlets, is bigger inside with a work desk, Anderson crank out windows, a bigger deck, and two twin mattresses under the bed if you need them. The Wildflower Cabin is a bit deeper in the forest, a little smaller, uninsulated with two walls of old-school wood-pane windows that open out to the forest completely, one twin mattress under the bed and a powerstrip for light electric use. Both sites have private fire pits, solar shower stalls, fans for cooling and an electric heater for chilly nights. It's a 10 minute hike down the gorge to the waterfall from the campsites. Each campsite has a private path down to the waterfall, where you can spend the day swimming, exploring the clay beds and looking for fossils in the 280 million year old gorge. In the evening, make a campfire at your fire pit and fall asleep under the stars listening to the waterfall and the river below. Be aware that the hike is steep and appropriate footwear is required. All hiking is at your own risk. Although your path to the waterfall is private and the waterfall is on private property, there may be other guests or locals that access the waterfall further down the road. There is no glass or alcohol allowed at the falls. Please be aware that you may hear your camping neighbors in the woods. For this reason, we ask that you don’t play amplified music and to keep noise down after 10pm to chillax and enjoy the sounds of frogs, crickets, owls, and night songs of the countryside that makes Schoharie so special. In the big red barn at the entrance to the campsites there is a community room with a charging station, cold water sink, mini fridge, coffee maker, grills, and a port-a-potty for your use. There are also 5 gallon solar shower bags that you can use at your campsite. You are responsible for filling them and putting them in the sun to heat the water. :) This is a leave no trace site. Please take all your trash with you when you leave. And please bring your own biodegradable soap for dishes and toilet paper for the port-a-potty! Firewood is available onsite for $1 per log. The Schoharie Valley is said to be the most fertile valley east of the Mississippi. It is still wild, unspoiled country and there are many local farms with fresh produce and organic meat within 5 miles of the house. There are several farm stands and a general store a few miles away, Scrumpy Ewe Cidery, Panther Creek Arts, and the Sap Bush Country Store and Café just up the hill in West Fulton. Mustang Valley, a wild mustang sanctuary and rescue center, is just down the road. Nearby hikes include Looking Glass Pond and Vroman's Nose, among many others.

Pitch your tent in a old apple grove just off a country road. The campsite adjoins a meadow filled with fireflies, wildflowers, fruit trees and wild medicines. Across the road, a 15-minute hike leads you to Kahonrakén:ra, a majestic 120' sacred waterfall and hidden swimming cove. Spend the day exploring ancient clay beds and fossil-studded rocks in a 280-million-year-old gorge, then return to your site, make an fire and fall asleep under the stars. Your campsite features sunny and shaded areas, a picnic table, and a fire pit. It's completely private, with just one other site over 200 feet away accessed by a separate trail through the forest. You can park your vehicle in the meadow at the trailhead to your site and you will load in your gear via a short path approx. 10 yards. Another short trail takes you to the community barn across the road, where you’ll find port-a-potties, a cold water sink, refrigerator, charging station, coffee maker, and grills. Firewood is available onsite for $1 per log (cash or Venmo). Please respect this LEAVE NO TRACE site—carry out what you bring in, and bring extra TP for the toilets (please do not bury any onsite). **Due to the rugged and wild nature of the land—including steep paths and water crossings—we recommend this campsite for guests who are comfortable navigating natural, unguarded terrain. The Sparrow House is a beautiful Catskills farmhouse with a private trail to a breathtaking 120' sacred waterfall. Bordering a rock gorge and unspoiled forest, it is a peaceful retreat with a cozy wood stove, outdoor sauna and sweeping views of the mountains. Ideal for couples, families, and small groups of nature lovers, the house is not appropriate for loud parties. Camping on the lawn is permitted. Events require pre-approval. 🙏🦋🙏 The Space The Sparrow House can sleep up to 7 guests (including 2 extra single mattresses for flexible sleeping). The master bedroom has a queen bed; the second bedroom a full; and the downstairs living room an oversized single daybed which can be a flex 3rd bedroom. Perfect sleeping by the fire or lounging around, the living room has a wall of sliding doors that open to the patio, backyard, fire pit, and forest. The Sparrow House has a full kitchen, dining room, sitting room, outdoor sauna, 2 full bathrooms (one with tub, one with walk-in shower), central heat, washer/dryer, and high-speed WiFi. There are two window AC units upstairs, though the house stays pretty cool on its own. Two large flat panel TVs (HDMI only) are available. There is no cable or network TV. Outdoors Relax on the back patio, on the side porch or under the trees in a hammock. The large fenced yard is bordered by honeysuckle vines, with hummingbird feeders, a firepit, and space to run around. Dogs are welcome (fee: $75/dog), but please keep them off beds and furniture. The Waterfall Kahonrakén:ra is magical. A sacred site revered for its powerful energy, it cascades into a secluded pool before flowing into emerald swimming holes and clay riverbeds. This is a deeply restorative space. Please treat it—and the land—with care and reverence. Local Attractions The house is close to Middleburgh, Cobleskill, and West Fulton, home to the delightful Sap Bush Café and Panther Creek Arts. Me, my boyfriend, and our dog had a wonderful stay on Amy’s land. You can tell she has put a lot of love and effort into curating it for her campers. She was very responsive and helpful when I asked questions about our arrival. Our area private enough for us and had lots of firewood available and there was a clean port-o-potty a short walk away. You can’t see or hear the other sites. The hike down to the waterfall is short but very technical and slippery.

I came and stayed on one of their older campsites a while back and they have done an incredible job creating more beautiful spaces to retreat from the city. This time we booked the Sparrow and the two new campsites for an overnight with our kids and their friends. From the moment we arrived, it's apparent how much care and intention goes into creating each site. Everything felt thoughtfully placed and it made for a really pleasant and fun experience. We spent the day hiking down to the waterfall (steep but beautiful!). It was too cool to swim but we took off our shoes and waded and even found a fossil. At night we fully enjoyed the fire pit and it was a perfect experience that we deeply needed. Tip: bring a few extra solar lights or lanterns for your path at night, especially if you’re staying in one of the more tucked-away campsites. It gets dark at night but makes for incredible stargazing. I couldn’t recommend this host and their property more. We left rested, reconnected, and already talking about the next trip to come back.

Absolutely stunning location. A true gem and had quite the adventure. The GPS did in fact take us to the wrong locations (Google maps), so if you enter q junkyard at any point, turn back and read her instructions instead.

Loved it! The small trek to waterfalls was a little challenging while it was raining but totally worth it. The cabin seemed to be quite new as well. Some other reviews mentioned they could hear vehicles passing by the Fulton road. I did not hear a thing during my stay and the campfire setup was also nice. Would totally visit again!

lovely stay- the cabin was warm & cozy. they really thought of every little thing to make the stay as comfortable as possible. you do have to park up the hill & carry your things down but it’s not a huge or long walk. the showers are camp bag showers, I do recommend bringing your own if you have one & some straps to hang it. the waterfall is stunning & ther is a lot of good day hikes around.

We had a great stay at the wildflower cabin for our family of four with two boys, aged 9 and 13. The cabin is adorable. Although it was cold for April, the space heater in the cabin worked well. We really enjoyed the waterfall nearby but couldn’t find a path across and had to wade through the freezing water- the kids loved it at least! We also had a great hike on the Vroman’s nose loop nearby. Overall, a great stay.

I loved the camping area, the place was clean and tidy. It’s best place to visit during summer, winter, rainy no matter what. It has beautiful places near by to visit as well. If u loving hiking u would love at peak. The host is so welcoming, she in fact offered us to stay way longer for the day as well. I can undoubtedly say it’s my best camping site so far.

This was a beautiful weekend getaway, and we absolutely plan to return in the summer! The cabin stayed nice and warm for the temps in the 30's with the oil heater and warm blankets we brought from home. The cabins are just off a main road but the noise of other cars was minimal. The hike to the waterfall had a rope along the steep parts that made getting down and up much safer! It is still possible to get to the beautiful falls in the winter however my below the knee muck boots were not long enough for the river crossing, so come prepared! To get close to the waterfall there is also a few logs you must walk across over deep water, they were stable but not sturdy however with the help of a long walking stick we were able to cross over no problem! The walk was incredibly short as well, maybe 5 mins total. There was a partition between us and the other cabin so we felt we had privacy even though the cabins were not very far from one another.

Amy was an awesome host, and she let us stay a little later! Her property is beautiful! The atmosphere is really quite peaceful, if you have camping neighbors who are quiet. If you’re into stargazing, the night sky displays some pretty awesome views. I personally haven’t seen anything that exquisite in a while. There is a slight hill from the campsites to the road that you have to walk up/down when packing/unpacking stuff from your vehicle. We stayed in the Wildflower cabin, and it was so cute and clean. There was already a space heater as well as standing ac fan. There was also a separate moveable fireplace with grate and wire cover and a picnic table. Overall, an awesome stay. Thanks so much Amy!

We had a cozy and peaceful night in the wildflower cabin. The cabin was clean and the bed is so comfortable. The limited power to run a fan and charge a phone were big bonuses. We spent the day exploring the waterfall— so beautiful. Would definitely visit again!

Wildflower Cabin & Sacred Waterfall
Pictures can’t do the waterfall justice! It is beautiful and peaceful, I would love to be there to experience in the warmer months. All amenities listed were provided! As some previous reviews have said, you can definitely hear the road. There is another cabin on the property but we didn’t hear our neighbors. The walk to the falls is steep but doable! The falls were truly magical and the highlight of the trip!
