Extended stay at Mission Hemlock

I wound up staying at Mission Hemlock Grove for 2 weeks in early September while my truck was getting transmission work. I had to make several day trips to Rochester and always felt safe leaving my belongings behind at site 1. There are some interesting trails and sights on the property including abandoned Christian grottos. I met some other very nice campers during my stay but always felt like I had plenty of privacy. Korey was very responsive from my experience. I’d recommend this property to someone who is boondock ready

Camp site 4 was just big enough to get a Frontier into. The sites are spaced enough that you don't see each other but could hear louder talk. Every site has a campfire ring. Porta potty was in the central field area and was getting pretty full but was stocked with TP and sanitizer. Really nice trails right on site, with a trail down to the lake. We didn't look for the bathroom or water supply so can't comment on that.

Camping in Private

Tent camping was great in this site. Very private. The hike to the lake was tough but doable if you walk regularly. The grottos were also neat. Felt like Indiana Jones.

The cut out for the camping spaces were beautiful. I loved site three and site 4 was also very charming. This was my first experience with hipcamp. What i would have liked improved was having a better fire ring. Instead of the tile material have bricks or stones. Also it would have been an a plus site if there had been a picnic table. The porta potty is brand new and conveniently located.

Awesome spot for no-frills camping. Locating the sites was a bit of a challenge due to a lack of signage, but Korey was quick to come help us figure it out. We wound up setting up at Site 3, as some other campers had claimed our spot before we arrived. The grass in the field was long, but flattened out after a few hours of foot traffic, and provided some ground padding for the tents and bare feet. Surprisingly, we did not see a single tick! Fireflies were out in droves come nightfall, though. Very magical. The lake is absolutely stunning, and the trail down was easily navigable, albeit a steep drop. We were reprimanded by patrolling officers, as we were not made aware that swimming in the lake is strictly prohibited. Otherwise, the water was crystal clear and the lack of houses around the lake made it feel that much more untouched. The Mission property was stunning and exploring was a highlight. The grottos provide a good refuse from the heat if you can find ‘em, and definitely added a layer of mysticism and whimsy to the trip. Would absolutely return to spend some time at the Mission!

The pavilion was great after we spent quite a bit of time cleaning up after other campers or events. We actually set up our tents under it since it rained. Unfortunately, there is no swimming in Hemlock Lake, so we had to drive quite a way to find a swimming hole. Getting water was kind of a pain. The hose outside the main buildings was never turned on and we had to bother people to let us in the building to fill water containers. The dogs loved being off leash when we were at camp. The place is quite fascinating, but needs some major cleaning up.

Be sure to see the fireflies dance over the meadow at dusk! The property wasn't maintained well enough for enjoying when I arrived, but they did come mow after a day. Also, don't forget bug spray and to bring clothes and shoes that cover your body for walks in the woods.

Pavilion site.

Relaxing weekend but the field was way overgrown. Appears no effort was made to prepare the site for a camper. Even though dogs can be off leash, mine were not for fear of being inundated with fleas and ticks due to the overgrowth. Also, site was off a main road. U are visible from the road and there is no one else around. You could probably yell for help and not be heard. Kinda creepy for a solo camper. If i didn't have my dogs, i would not have stayed. Anyone can enter the site that may have bad intentions. Lots of potential but alot of effort needs to be made. No one met me at the site or even stopped over. Only reason I met Kory was because I drove over to the mission to fill a tote with water. He was however, responsive by text. Very odd to not be met by the host.

Korey was a wonderful host was kind and considerate. Some sites were a little overgrown, but the main pathway was mowed and well taken care of. This a great budget option for people who are hiking and spending time in the Finger Lakes

Happy Campers

My son and I had a very pleasant stay overall. We were there to camp overnight to be able to spend the day fishing on Hemlock Lake. (Which is absolutely beautiful if one isn’t aware) we also just camped out of the back of my truck- so it was very low key. The path and site were well mowed and easy to identify. Korey was very great with communication. The property itself has a curious vibe about it, and we did have a good time exploring the grounds a bit before we checked out. Overall-great for a family or someone looking to spend the weekend near the lake and aren’t afraid to take responsibility for themselves. Will definitely come back- we love Hemlock.

I wish our host cared a little more about his property. The space itself was quite nice but there it's a lot of room for improvement! The sites were not marked so we had no idea where we were. The fire pits were a shambles and the pit toilet was filled with garbage. There were no picnic tables to be found anywhere near the sites. All in all a bit of a disappointment.
