Private sites
100% of recent Hipcampers say the sites felt private.
NOTE: Some 2025 dates may be blocked for maintenance, but contact me to request specific dates. :)   (Use the "Have a question? Send Timothy a message!" link at the bottom of this section.) With three private sites deep in the Catskills, this special land has a variety of mature trees, open meadows with ferns and dogwood stands, remnants of an old apple orchard, trails across old rock walls and mountain streams through gently sloping topography, and abundant birds, frogs, newts, and other wildlife. Plus one of the best swimming ponds in all of the Catskills! There are three sites: one tucked into a meadow in a forest clearing, another under a hemlock grove deeper in the woods, and a third reserved for Long Path thru-hikers who come down from the mountains for a break, which can also be overflow. All are off-grid and rustic but close enough to the house and parking area to have convenience, and far enough—and hidden out of view—to offer real privacy. (About a 4-minute walk from your shared toilet/supply/storage shed by driveway.) Tent area has cleared flat pads for two small tents. Location is far enough from things that you can walk a minute into the woods and feel lost to civilization, yet only two miles of paved road from downtown Windham and all that the cozy resort town has to offer. Makes a great basecamp for exploring the rest of the Northern Catskills, or a hideaway to stay and get lost in. Hike miles of trails and old logging roads in the Elm Ridge Wild Forest, starting literally steps from your campsite. Swim in the large spring-fed pond, or just watch the colorful koi swim. Sit around the fire and reflect on the day’s adventures. Or just take in the wide-open views of distant mountains and starry skies. Note: the only "Kitchen available" (Hipcamp's wording) is a grill over firepit. Also, toilet is a bucket-style dry composting toilet with urine diversion inside a protected shed. Camp site is a short hike along private trails from parking/shed area. Depending on weather/season, it's sometimes muddy.

Deep Woods Hemlock Grove Tent Site

This new tent site is in the farthest corner of the property, in the shade of a grove of hemlock trees and an old growth birch and oak. Takes a few minutes to walk from parking, but the privacy is worth it. This special land has a variety of mature trees, open meadows with ferns and dogwood stands, remnants of an old apple orchard, a large swimming pond, trails across old rock walls and mountain streams through gently sloping topography, and abundant birds, frogs, newts, and other wildlife. The off-grid site is close enough to the house and parking area to have convenience, but far enough—and hidden out of view—so it offers real privacy. Long Path Thru Hiker’s Camp Site

Booked 1 time
Tent site · Sleeps 2
This is a special campsite reserved for thru-hikers on the Long Path, the NY-NJ version of the Appalachian Trail that runs from New York City all the way up to the Adirondacks. From Section 26 through Elm Ridge Wild Forest between NY Route 23 and Greene County Route 10, hikers can take an easy detour down old logging roads southwest past Lake Heloise to our campsite. Having probably just emerged from the more strenuous sections of the Catskill Park, here you can enjoy a nice swim, fresh water, and warm fire before continuing along the Path. I will coordinate with hikers to give precise hiking directions from Barlow Notch, just southeast of Mt. Hayden. The hike down is approximately 1 hour, depending on your speed and how much time you take to appreciate the old shale pits, homestead foundations, tall sugar maple forests, seasonal waterfalls, and other pleasure of Elm Ridge. A complementary cold beer or hot coffee awaits all who make the trek. I can also take your mail to the local PO or re-stock you with food or other supplies. :) This special land has a variety of mature trees, open meadows with ferns and dogwood stands, remnants of an old apple orchard, a large swimming pond, and abundant birds, frogs, newts, and other wildlife.
