David and Roxanne were great hosts and we loved the visits from their two dogs Rook and Willa who were very sweet. It rained a bit during our stay but we had solid shelter, a roof, and all the firewood we needed to stay toasty. The campsite and bathroom were both very clean, and a hot outdoor shower is a nice addition to clean up. It was a fun time and I'd definitely come back if I'm in the area again!

We had a great time camping at David and Roxanne's place, and loved their dogs too! It rained a bit the weekend we stayed but we had plenty of wood for a warming fire and a solid roof over our heads. The site was clean, the bathroom was clean, and a hot water outdoor shower is a welcome reprieve. I'd definitely come back if we're in the area again. Thanks David and Roxanne!

Thank you David! This was a great camping spot with everything we needed and more! The shelter was perfect and our big 6 person tent fit inside! The composting toilet exceptionally clean and there were small details like a battery operated light, drinking water, and a first aid kit at the site! Thanks for welcoming us to your space! We loved our stay!

We loved tent camping at Barred Owl Woods! The simplicity, lovely hospitality and attention to detail was wonderful. Listening to the owls at night was incredible. Such a great location to so many hikes, small towns, interesting sites and a beautiful part of NY! Thank you David!!

Only two sites to choose from is what makes this place so special. Each has a lean-to shelter with tables and chairs. There is a fire pit with a grill. The toilet is a short walk and very clean and nice to use. Same with the shower, which is a bit exposed so I can see some people might find it lacking in privacy. Overall we really enjoyed our stay. Keep in mind you might not have cell service and your vehicle should have some ground clearence to get through the gravel road leading to the property.

We loved staying at David’s campsite. It was private (we were the only ones there at the time) and just primitive enough to satisfy us. It was nice to be able to stay on the raised shelter platform, a first for us. If our tent was any bigger, it would not have fit on the platform and we would have had to figure out where to pitch on the ground. Being mindful of your tent footprint is necessary before booking. It was such a treat to hear the owls at night and in the morning! We loved meeting David and his wife and their sweet pups. For us, it was a magical stay!

We had an absolutely wonderful two-night stay at David’s place. The location strikes the perfect balance - peaceful and quiet, yet just a short drive from some of the area’s best hiking trails and outdoor activities. One of the highlights was hearing owls calling in the stillness of the night—a magical experience!
The campsite itself was clean and well-maintained, with plenty of firewood and potable water provided- thoughtful touches that really showed the care and attention David puts into hosting. Everything about our stay felt comfortable, welcoming, and connected to nature.

David's site is really terrific. There are owls in the trees overhead, plenty of wood for the large fire pit, dry kindling ready for use, a hot shower just up a short path, a clean lean-to for eating or sitting or tent-pitching or all three, a large barrel with drinking water waiting right there. Amazing. David met me at the parking space when I arrived. He got me oriented and went out of his way to make sure I had what I needed. The two sites are nestled in the woods just down the driveway from David's home - easy to find and easy to access but also secluded. There is a little path that runs between the sites, but they are separate, too, so there is plenty of privacy. I had an extremely comfortable and peaceful night, and I would very happily return next time I am in the area. Many many thanks to David for creating such a wonderful spot and making it available.

This hipcamp was our first and we had a good time. Hosts were pleasant and welcoming and site was private ( no other campers were present at the other grounds ). Site is just a few miles from Watkins glen and the gorge is a must-see. Hosts even provided potable water and plenty of firewood to enjoy our long weekend. Special thanks to the hosts for the hospitality and for showing us around the grounds upon arrival. Would recommend!

This listing is absolutely ideal. The two locations are clean, beautiful, well constructed, and cozy. They're immersed in picturesque natural woods without the need to trek to your site. Plus hot showers!
David and Roxanne are kind and delightful, with a beautiful home on the property featuring wildflower landscaping and two incredibly friendly dogs. I'll be booking again the next time I'm in Ithaca.

Wonderful bit of property to stay at, we spent the weekend here and went around to Ithaca, Watkins Glen, and the wine trails. This was in reasonable distance of all of them. Outhouse was clean, hot water was much appreciated for showering. We will be staying again!

David was a very kind host and we had a great time at the campsite! It’s an amazing location with Watkins Glen and lots of hiking and exploring nearby. The shelters, sites, and bathroom were very clean and well kept. We enjoyed listening to the birds and creek nearby, having campfires, and going on hikes nearby. We recommend this site and would love to return.

This was our first Hipcamp experience where we deviated from a typical campground. We brought our 2 dogs and really enjoyed the space and layout. The two campsites have well-crafted shelters that are spaced about 50-60’ apart (best suited for people that are OK with semi-privacy). We liked the idea of two couples/families staying there together. Note, short pathways lead from nearby parking, so our foldable cart came in handy for transferring stuff. Overall, it was a lovely camping experience with great hosts that were friendly, generous and thoughtful. We look forward to returning and recommend you check it out as well, including the barred owls and other amazing bird songs.

This camp is secluded, clean, well built quiet and friendly. The adjacent state land is an enchanted forest and kayaking on Lake Cayuta’s inlet was fantastic. I enjoyed my stay. The hosts are very nice and informed folks.

My experience at this camp was absolutely amazing! Beautiful views of the woods, nature sounds, lots of peace and calm 😌
Bathroom was super helpful as well as the cabin, we had a little rain but nothing bad. Also it’s great that it was close to some falls at Watkins Glen. David and Roxanne were super helpful and nice. Would go back 100%

Nestled between Seneca and Cayuga lies a camp that gives one a moment to relax and reset. Dave & Roxane created a space that is a treasure for the outdoor minimalist. We stayed here for two nights and enjoyed every minute of our time there! Roxanne and David were very kind and welcoming. The 4 person tent fit well on the platform, the fire pit was all set up with firewood provided, the composting toilet was very close to each campsite and was nicely kept, and there was even an option to take a hot shower by the shed! We will absolutely be coming back here in the future.

Everything at this site was truly amazing! From the time we pulled up till the end, David & Roxanne hosted us with the highest quality of care. The camp site is clean w/ fire pits and wood. They have an outhouse nicer than some indoor bathrooms. The Connecticut Hills, The Gourge, and the landscape create a backdrop that’s truly serene and magical. It’s the perfect escape for a personal revival, or an intimate retreat for partners to renew, restart, and refresh their relationships. It’s an awesome place to disconnect from the noise and connect with life’s purpose.
This campsite will forever be a little slice of heaven for us.

We're already planning our next trip here to this beautiful part of the world!
The campsite's shelter helped keep us dry during a few days of rain, and we were cozy in our private little area. David made sure we had everything we needed. The bathroom is so clean and new, and the outdoor shower has HOT WATER! 10/10
We also adored the cute pup, Rouk, who greeted us in the mornings, and it just made the experience all the better. Thank you! Highly recommend if you're looking for a great camping spot.

This was a wonderful retreat to get away to. A quiet place to be one with nature. Where the days are simple and the nights filed with a symphony of owls and all of mother naturers creature's. I came with my tent but decided to enjoy the well crafted shelter/lean two. I stayed for 4 nights with some chilly weather and some rain. I was dry and well protected. The amenities are quite simple for disconnecting and living on the edge; a hot on demand outdoor shower, a composting private outhouse, private shelters, hand built picnic table and shelter. They even provided me with some wood (while supplies last). There was no cell services but for me that was great i came to relax and get away from distractions. It was the perfect place to hold camp to get out and see what this part of New York State has to offer. There are lots of trails near camp at Connecticut Hill Wildlife Management Forest. There are lots of water falls to see at several NY State Parks. It's Centrally located between Ithaca and Watkins Glen. Lots of vineyards and breweries to check out as well. But I stuck to the outdoor activities. This is a beautiful camp and I was welcomed with open arms by the host David and Roxanne. What a great camping vacation I had here.

I had a great weekend of camping and hiking! David, Roxanne and Rouk were lovely hosts. There's a sizeable lean-to at each site (big enough for me stand up in all parts at 5' 10"). I heard Barred owls (Strix varia) both nights, so the site is definitely aptly named! It was less than 10 mins to multiple trail heads within the Connecticut Hill WMA, and only 25 mins to Watkins Glen State Park. I will absolutely be staying here again.

I loved camping at the Southeast Camp! David and Roxanne are very kind and charming hosts with a wealth of knowledge about Connecticut Hill and the surrounding area. The rural roads and nearby trails are excellent for exploring off the beaten path. The campsite itself was very quiet and wooded, managing to feel private while still conveniently close to the driveway. The facilities are rustic yet beautifully crafted, it was an immersive stay in a beautiful natural setting. Would highly recommend!

We had a lovely stay at Barred Owl Woods. Hosts were kind and accommodating. There was easy access and walks into Connecticut Hill and we saw and heard a good deal of wildlife, including barred owls at night. The early red leaves were beautiful - just starting in some maples & the creeks were flowing. Mosquitoes were pesky in the late afternoon, so bring a net or your thermacell. The site was well maintained and peaceful. The road there has some bumps, so 4WD is helpful but our Prius made it ok 🙂 Would definitely recommend!
