ABOUT Zaytuna Farm Eco Hamlet is a highly active Permaculture demonstration site and has been used to teach permaculture to countless international and local students for the past 20 years. It is at the forefront of Permaculture Design, displaying many permaculture principles, and produces an abundance of food and various yields from within its living environment. Zaytuna Farm Eco Hamlet is a family friendly farm, situated on a sixty six acre (27 hectares) property that fronts Terania Creek opposite the village of The Channon, Northern NSW. The property is completely off-grid and contains 800m of creek frontage with fishing spots, a swimming hole for campers, and abundant wildlife ideal for bird watchers. Zaytuna Farm Eco Hamlet has recently become a community of 8 private residences that share this beautiful property. We kindly ask that campers respect the residents’ privacy, however if you spot them on the common grounds, they are always up for a friendly chat. CAMPSITE The campsite is situated on the communal grounds at the heart of Zaytuna Farm Eco Hamlet on flat lawn surrounded by bamboo and the sounds of the rainforest. We also have 10 raised camping shelters on offer, suitable for small tents for 1-2 people. Campers have close access to bathrooms built from eco-friendly shipping containers with composting toilets and warm showers; a fire pit, a kitchen garden to share from, an education/function center (available for hire), a common sheltered area to relax with wifi, and an equipped shared kitchen. OTHER NOTES We strictly have a no drug and alcohol policy. Due to our policy and customs, we kindly ask that no pork products enter the property, and that reasonably modest clothing is worn (shoulders down to knees covered is fine) including around the swimming hole. Please note this is not the place for partying, but a place for connecting with nature and nurturing wellbeing. We kindly ask that all rubbish is taken off the premise as there are no bins. Children 7 years and under stay free. We look forward to hosting you! What an amazing place to camp in the hinterlands of the Northern Rivers. This permaculture farm is the greatest example of how people can truly live within the bushlands of this region.

Where is the food?
Hi, I was expecting to see food in abundance everywhere ,with variety ....so I was disappointed. The permi /food system looked rather tied and needing love. I was very thankful to Graham & Trish for giving us a brief tour. We did get the understanding that a lot of changes are taking place, at the moment. The camp site was lovely. We were the only campers. The toilets were super clean, thank you, & it such a good idea to have shoes off at the door.

It is such a beautiful place with very friendly people around. I stayed there to learn a Permaculture Design Course. Sam is a wonderful teacher and Geoff is such an amazing person to listen to. I can spend hours listening to them and how they have helped restore the environment and improve all lives on Earth. Highly recommend you book a farm tour with Geoff so you can see beautiful design that helps create abundance. I had such an amazing time at the farm. If you are passionate about permaculture this is THE place to visit!

Incredible skies & sounds at night
Loved camping here, perfect for unwinding. The sheltered platform is unpowered but it keeps the rain out. There is a good dose of oxygen every time you breathe and listening to nature at its best, the sounds and wonders as you sleep and wake is an incredible feeling. The farm animals are always happy to see you. The commons is a great place to meet new people and share some delicious foods by the camp fire. Bring torches and batteries for the evening, the nearest general store makes some good strong coffees, walkable 15-20mins. I chose to wear long sleeve and pants to keep sunburn and insects away because I learnt a lesson the last time I went camping.

They sell a farm experience that you cannot live because it is not prepared. Women who don't know it can't wear shorts because the owner doesn't agree, the common areas aren't very clean.

The clearing for campervans was easy to find even in the dark. Signage was clear. Toilets and showers were clean enough and functional. No incredible views but the environment was beautiful and the stars were bright

Excited by Nature
Waking up to hear the river running and the morning birds sing was beautiful the stars at night looked astonishing. If you are looking for a no fuss natural retreat then this is perfect. I camped on a platform for ten days and it rained off and on the whole time but my tent stayed dry. It was a very relaxing stay.

Nice spot and we overall enjoyed our stay, however, all the showers we tried had blocked drains, so you couldn’t really stand in them as it was pretty gross. Would be nice if they were maintained a bit better.

Facilities were really poor - common room area was really unclean and bathroom lights didn’t work. The raised areas for camping were great (particularly so with the rain!) Didn't get to meet the host unfortunately so didn’t get to see around the campsite much.

Good amenities and people.
Good amenities and friendly manager. Like much of the northern mountainous area, it can get very humid which can be difficult until you adjust. Much of the property is private, and I had to find my own places to explore. It would be good if there were recommended walking paths around the area. I'd consider WWOOFing there if/when they take volunteers.

Peaceful camp set up
Put this on your bucket list! Permaculture set up and design on Zaytuna farm is exemplary. Amazing people, very friendly and helpful. Great friendships, the freshest air and camping on high ground with roof over provided extra protection from the rain. The evenings and nights were extraordinary listening to the ecosystem at its best.

The place is quiet and surrounded by nature. We loved our time there, it was peaceful and great to be able to listen to the noise of nature. We also had the chance to enjoy a beautiful starry sky as the nights are pretty dark. The platforms for the tents are ideal for the wet season, it kept us out of the rain.

Not a great family experience
We felt the website misled us about the camping experience on offer. They advertise sprawling permaculture farms, water holes for swimming, and a community of permaculture enthusiasts. The reality was a small grassy area that you weren’t allowed to leave or see anything outside of the small allocated area, as the rest is apparently private property of lot holders. We came with a young child and there was almost nothing for them to explore or to do in the allowed area. My partner was excited to see how permaculture systems have been set up in what they advertise is a showcase farm, but without being able to leave the small camping space, was not able to see much of anything. The pluses were toilets, showers and a communal fire pit. I would not visit again unless I am camping as part of attendance to a permaculture course.

Upon arrival, we werent too sure where to go as we were not greeted by anyone and there was no one in the office at the front driveway. We managed to drive down to find the farm map (on the communal wall) and located where the campsites. We made a big fire at the back of the communal and we met a lovely young man, Jaden or Jayden who was very welcoming. He lives and works on site and was very kind with helping us get boiling water for our noodles and milk Daisy the cow. Jayden also explained to us the farm and the experince of living off the land (off the grid). A fantastic experience and was grateful for the hot shower and a garlic bulb from the stakeholders that live at the back in a beautiful oasis. They were very lovely and warm. It would be great to have timeslots of the day to day work done by the workers where campers can help out and gain experience. e.g. If you help to milk daisy, you can get some fresh milk. Also, would be good to get directions upfront and where not to park etc. We originally parked behind the communal area to be close to the fire. I look forward to seeing it again in a year or so as the farm has so much potential.

I attempted to roll out my swag and got swarmed by hornets or bees. Stung on my head and hand. Very painful. There was also 2 other platforms with hornets or bees nests in them. Not a pleasant arrival! Ended up sleeping in my car. And Darren was not too worried when I told him about the incident. Wouldn’t come back
