Historic rural property close to Wollombi. Tranquil surrounds for Australian Bush camping. Range of camp sites on the large property, suitable for Caravans and other camping set ups that are 4x4. Set up where you like. Open private areas and extensive tracks for walks or cycling. Walk and birdwatch. Greenloo composting toilet. FirePit.Wollombi Springs is 300 acres of a mix of open mowed grassed areas, bush and sandstone ridges and backs onto Yengo State Forest. It's totally private, peaceful and pristine. The heavy rains last week have made the place absolutely pop with green grass, and almost doubled the dam capacity! The site is flood free and well drained. Travel time from Newcastle or Wahroonga ( start of th M1) is approx. 1.5 hrs Wildlife is plentiful all year round, and the place is a bird watchers delight! Photographers will love the variety of wildflowers throughout the year, and rock formations that change colour with the time of day, depending on what part of the property you are on. If you are looking to recharge the batteries, chill out from the hustle & bustle of life and just get quiet, then this is your place :-) Sunset Flats is the first of a number of camping sites we are creating, and is a wide grassed area with a very gentle slope, shade trees and a nearby fire pit. Great for tents or RV camping, with an easy walk to our brand new 'Loo with a View' composting toilet. Please note there may be one other group in the vicinity at times, but chances are you will have the entire place to yourself most of the time. Access roads to the property are gravel, a little rough in spots with a steep climb, initially, but suitable for 2wd in fine weather, and 4WD if wet. Mountain bikes are welcome and there are a number of trails already cut for use, with plans for a complete circuit on the drawing board. If you enjoy hiking, there are no shortage of tracks to wander along, or you may prefer to just sling a hammock and read a book and soak up the silence. Noisy late night party goers are not our ideal guests, as you will discover sound carries in the bush, and we really want our patrons to enjoy the pristine beauty of the property.

We stayed just for the one night to get out of the city and it was bliss. We were greeted by Robert on arrival and he was super friendly and approachable. No phone signal anywhere near (vodaphone) so make sure you download your maps. Robert then escorted us to the camp grounds which is up and over quite a rough dirt track. You need a bit of clearance for certain parts and wouldn’t get up there if you had anything considered low. But definitely manageable with 2WD. Robert showed us around the camp grounds which are quite substantial with plenty of places to set up. Some on a slope, some with much flatter ground. We only had the one night so didn’t get to explore that much but there is plenty to go around and take a look at. Some harder hikes were available too with plenty of plans for the future. The toilet was very clean and well maintained along with the rest of the grounds. It feels wild yet you can tell a lot of work has gone in to and continues to go in to it. There was more than enough firewood gathered and also around the grounds to pick and choose as you wish (if it’s considered dead and loose of course). We had a stone circle for our fire but Robert offered us a half metal barrel if we wanted it. Nice option to have. He also gave us some Yabby nets to try out however we didn’t have time to use them in the end but again, nice option to have. We will definitely be back with more time to explore the property for sure. Thanks Robert!

Sunset Flats Camping

Awesome spot among the trees, toilet and sink very clean and usable. The firewood was perfect. Robert helped us drive down to the site. I would not reccommend a regular sedan or hatchback to drive on the road as it is very bumpy and rocks will damage/scrape underneath the car.

Sunset Flats Camping

Our recent family trailer camping trip on Robert and Patricia's beautiful property was amazing. Lovely grassy clearings in amongst the gum trees gave plenty of options for picking a site, all of which had plenty of firewood and were mostly level. There were a couple of other small/family groups there at the same time, but there's plenty of room to set up and we couldn't see or hear anyone else. Hope to see you again soon, thanks!

Sunset Flats Camping

Sunset Flats is a beautiful and peaceful place to camp! Robert and Patricia were very responsive and welcoming and have thought of the little details that make a big difference. There is plenty of space between campers, the ‘loo with a view’ is great and there is lots of bushland to explore. The kids loved it too and we hope to be back soon!
