We have a unique location near the Santa Fe National Forest set on the eastern slopes of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. This camp spot is very private with plenty of room to spread out and enjoy yourself without the restrictions of a campground. The river frontage is right there where you can enjoy the sound of running water.

Los Vallecitos mountain retreat
Very secluded and private
Perfect location for a night or weekend camping experience from Santa Fe. About 2 hours drive up the high road towards Taos. We really enjoyed our night staying at Site 1. We went for a small hike up the long drive and discovered site 2 which is actually on the river. If we come back we would choose camping site 2. If you’re looking for a secluded and quiet place, this is perfect. No amenities and no internet/cell service.

Peaceful getaway
Perfect stop booked the night before, the property was beautiful and exactly what we were looking for. Make sure you reach out right away for directions as all map apps will take you to the the wrong place. You for sure need a suv/truck to make it up to the property.

Peaceful Experience
The campsite is peaceful and secluded for a great camping experience. The host Carla, was very useful in answering any questions i had about the drive into the site. Prior campers had mentioned it, so i reached out to Carla and she provided me with useful information. Overall a great experience and I plan to return again

Great place to stay!
This place is awesome. We stayed at river camp 1, the host was great, the location is ideal. Still had decent cell service, about 10 min from gas / essentials in Mora. Really well located to trails in National Forest land.

This was absolutely one of the best camping experiences of my life! Site 2 was wonderful right next to the creek and falling asleep to the sound of the stream was so relaxing. Me and my sister had an amazing time!

Loved camping here very special
We loved the one night we spent at Rio de La Casa. This is the perfect spot if you really want to get out in nature, be away from civilization, enjoy the woods, the beautiful creek that runs through the property. We took a nice walk in the morning and loved the views of the distant mountains and all of the fall foliage. We also say the beautiful farm in the distance, which made us wish we had ordered some of the meat that was available. The road is a little rough, but we were fine in our camper van (sprinter). We would definitely stay again.

Rio de La Casa Retreat
Nice little campsite next to a clear stream. Secluded and quiet. No trails that I know of nearby so if you're looking for somewhere you can walk/bike, this might not be the place. Instructions on how to get there weren't emailed in my confirmation which I thought was strange. I was really glad I messaged the host half way into my drive because the map provided by hipcamp pulled up incorrect directions. This could have been a huge inconvenience especially since there's no cell service in the area. Maybe the host could add it to the special instructions when you receive a confirmation? Other than that it's a sweet spot. Private with a good size fire pit. Would go again.

Beautiful property, wonderful host!
The host was very accommodating and the property was beautiful and restful. There are two spots on this property and both are large and welcoming. There is a stream on the property close to both sites (love sleeping to the sound of moving water) and there is room for either tent or RV camping. The road is a little rough on the way in but nothing that slow and cautious driving can't overcome. Plus it adds to the secluded and natural setting of the place. We plan on returning again!

Wonderful spot to camp - lovely dirt roads to walk on and meadows to sit in. We'll be back! The roads to get in were fine with my subaru outback.

Rio de La Casa Retreat
This was our second time camping here. The first time was about a year ago and we had the “River Camp 1” which was nice and open with a good view of the mountains. This time we had the “River Camp 2” which was right next to the river! Again, very open and having the outhouse and fire pit was very nice. Being a private spot is definitely a plus!

The drive to the site was super easy with the directions given by the host-road in had potholes but nothing major-The site was awesome!! Full of dense trees and a strong rushing stream, got to swim a little in the stream and found a ton of mushrooms on site. We enjoyed the meadow close to our site and hiked to ‘meditation point’ Overall great site to reconnect to nature.

Carla was great and delivered firewood so we could make a fire. The road to her house is a long dirt road with potholes and rocks but it’s definitely manageable in an SUV. I’m not sure a sedan would be able to cross the creek after it rains. The perk here is a private, secluded, drive in site on a flowing river.

So glad we tried this place!
Such a beautiful, quiet place to go! This nightly cost is a bit more than the state park sites but TOTALLY worth it. The host and workers on the ranch were so friendly and full of knowledge about the area, places to hike and where to fish. We will definitely be coming back! We did not see a single bear while camping, be “bear aware” and they’ll leave you be. The roads are kind of gnarly in some spots but we were able to drive a car to this camp site no problem. Highly recommended!

Hidden gem
This was a great getaway. Our tent was maybe 15 feet from the river. There was a table for meal prep. There was a fire pit and firewood (optional) that was perfect for cooking or just sitting around. The area is heavily wooded and that makes for cooler temperatures and gave us shade. We even got in the water at the hottest part of the day even though it was shallow and cold. I’d love to come back and bring the kids next time.

Beautiful and Peaceful
Really nice spot, responsive host with great dogs. It was back in the woods, right by the creek, and there are really sweet spots around the camp. Nice clear sky with tons of stars. Definitely animal droppings around, but my experience was safe. Critter tracks were on my car in the AM. I will absolutely go back if I am in that neck of the woods again.

Lovely
We loved this spot. It was definitely off the beaten path, but if you’re visiting that part of the world on purpose, you know that already. The spot was huge, with lots of options. There appeared to be two River Camps and this was #1. We were not next to the river, but rather had two streams running through the site. #2 was on the river. Ask Carla what would be more appropriate based on your vehicles. I was pulling a 15ft teardrop trailer and had no difficulty getting into Site 1. Site 2 would have been a bigger challenge with the road conditions. Our site was clean, spacious, and gave us options to set up in the sun or shade. There was a pit toilet available, and you provide your own toilet paper. The only downside was that the streams seemed to rise like the tide and would flood parts of the site at times. We were set up on high ground and not affected much, but look for muddy parts and don’t set up camp there. Carla was very responsive and super helpful. I highly recommend this Hipcamp.

Wonderful setting - easy host
This was my first stay through Hipcamp and I am beyond amazed with how simple and seamless the process was. On a whim, I opened the Hipcamp app and discovered that I was just minutes away from the Los Vallecitos Mountain Retreat. I made my reservation, paid, and was at my camp spot all in less than 20 minutes. Carla was quick to reach out and responded within minutes of each message I sent her. Her directions to the camp spot were flawless and spot was more than I was hoping for. Carla set the bar high for my first Hipcamp experience and I can only hope that my experiences in the future are half as good as this one!

Tranquil Wilderness Retreat!!!
We all had great time! Upon arrival we thought the camp site (campsite 1) wouldn’t be large enough, but we were pleasantly surprised once we drove into the campsite. We had a group of 6 people and had 3 large tents, we were all able to set up with tons of room left for activities. The wildlife was very active lots of squirrels, chipmunks, gofers and birds. The campsite was well kept. The privacy was nice and the few faces we did see were very pleasant. The roads are a bit rough and pretty narrow and the only running water is from the stream so keep that in mind when booking. Another than that I would highly recommend booking at Rio de la Casa Los Vallecitos Retreat.
