Tucked deep in the heart of the Santa Fe National Forest, our three private campsites offer quiet seclusion, stunning views, and exclusive access to a peaceful slice of Northern New Mexico wilderness. Full Description: Welcome to your own private forest escape. At Vida Bonita Pecos, our two campsites are designed for those seeking quiet, space, and solitude. Set apart from each other and completely removed from any other campers, you’ll feel like you have the entire forest to yourself. Each site is nestled beneath towering Ponderosa and Blue Spruce pines and Aspens. They offer level ground for tents, grill for cooking, and easy access to nearby hiking trails, Cowles Ponds, and the soothing sounds of the Pecos River. Whether you’re stargazing by your campfire or sipping coffee with the morning breeze, this is where relaxation lives. Your campsite is part of the Vida Bonita Pecos complex, which includes beautifully remodeled cabins and the remodeled Ponderosa Lodge. While you’ll have total privacy at your site, guests are welcome to explore designated areas of the property, our trout pond, and free roaming chickens and turkeys. We don’t pack campers in. No RVs. No generators. Just you, the trees, and a sky full of stars. What’s Included: Two secluded tent campsites (book one or both) Access to filtered spring drinking water Campfire ring (fire restrictions may apply) Access to clean outhouse toilet. Cell service is spotty—perfect for unplugging, but we have free WiFi at the main cabin. Things to Know: No other campers will be placed near you—guaranteed privacy. Firewood available on request. Check-in at our main lodge before heading to your site. Come experience the slower pace of mountain life. The trout pond, which is for viewing only (no fishing), is the highlight of the site. Its clear waters shimmer with sunlight and reveal a mesmerizing underwater ballet of trout gliding through the pond. Campers often spend hours simply watching the water or relaxing by its edge. A small cascading ravine adds a tranquil soundtrack of flowing water to your stay. This site is surrounded by towering Ponderosa pines and golden aspens that sway gently in the breeze, providing shade, beauty, and a sense of peace. There’s room for one large tent or two smaller ones, making it perfect for solo travelers, couples, or a quiet friend’s retreat. A picnic table and fire pit are provided for meals, stories, and stargazing in the clean mountain air. You’re just a short walk away from both the Cowles Ponds and the Pecos River—ideal for fishing, wading, or simply soaking in the natural beauty of northern New Mexico. The shared outhouse is conveniently located about 100 yards away, and it is a short walk from the parking area to the campsite. This campsite is part of the larger Vida Bonita Pecos property, but it feels like your own private wilderness. Whether you’re here for the cool mountain air, quiet evenings by the fire, or a romantic escape in nature, the Trout Pond Campsite delivers a rejuvenating camping experience that’s both simple and unforgettable.

We had a wonderful time. Duc was so nice to show us around the grounds and also gave us a dozen eggs from his chickens. It was a beautiful and peaceful escape!

The retro camper was clean and comfortable. The Pecos gorge is beautiful. The campsite was across the street from green chili trout water. What more could you ask for!

We te ted the retro trailer fro duc. A great spot near the river. The next night we upgraded to one of the duplexes. It was great. Duc is a great host and the pecos canyon is beautiful

The area is absolutely beautiful!! And Duc was amazing and accommodating! We felt welcomed and taken care of. Our cabin was lovely, and the area of the river we could walk to was absolutely stunning! And our boys loved feeding the animals and even got to help collect eggs. We couldn’t have had a better time!! Would love to come back and spend more time!

Nice, quiet site. Very comfortable accommodations with everything we needed for our stay. We were able to walk to the river as well as the trails up by Cowles Pond. We also enjoyed hiking the Cave Creek trail which was just a few minutes up the road. Duc was a great host and taught us how to build the best campfire of our lives.

SUV’s location and set up is amazing, a must stay here location! It was peaceful, quiet, you can hear the river from your location. It was also cozy, safe, clean and charming. Duc is very hospitable and always checked to make sure I had what I needed. He really cares that you have a good time. I will definitely return and stay for longer!

Beautiful region with many fun farm animals roaming. The tent space is quite small. I wouldn’t recommend more than a 10 person tent that is rectangular shape. The site is long but not wide. Quick walk across the road to the river and great river trails.

We found a diamond. Beautiful and quiet in a sometimes crowded canyon. Duc has created a perfect getaway if you are looking for solice, hiking, fishing or the ideal anniversary hideout. We had a blast and cannot wait to go back for a week or weekend. Loved the dogs!!

Duc and his wife were so friendly and helpful. His wife even gave us some tips on fishing the river, and boy was she right! Our stay was at the one tent site, which was right next to a little trout pond. My boys loved watching the trout. There was also no vehicle access allowed back there, so my 5 year old was able to explore without worry. We were walking distance to the Pecos River and went down there every day. Would 100% recommend! We were sad to come back home. 😂

We had a great time camping on Duc’s land. The hosts were really kind, made sure we had everything we needed and more! They helped us bring our gear to the camping spot, explained the lay of the land, gave us some suggestions for walkable river areas which were fabulous and even gave us some most delicious eggs from their chickens and lent us the kitchen ware needed to cook them up and enjoy them. Camping by the pond was easy with access to a very clean camping style toilet a short distance away, a picnic table and a fire pit. The pond had trout which we enjoyed watching swim by. We saw lots of birds and chipmunks and some bats too. The host’s dogs were sweet gentle giants and we felt very safe with them patrolling at night. One cabin is visible from the site and it was quiet and everyone was welcoming.

Duc's property was gorgeous, and the campsite was very nice. The dogs are adorable and would visit us regularly throughout out our stay. Duc was a great host and has several cabins on the property in addition to the campsite. I would definitely recommend staying there again

We stayed at one of Duc's duplex's. It was a great launch point for our backpacking trip and also a great stay over after the backpacking. Duc and Erikah are nice people that make sure you have a nice stay. The setting is beautiful--you can walk right down to the Pecos River and might even be escorted by their friendly, lovable Great Pyranees dogs --Luna and Max. Have fun!

Great location. Super nice hosts. Beautiful spot. Some things to be aware of. A) No parking at tent site. It’s a 2-3 minute walk from car to tent. B) The space for a tent would work best for a 2-3 person tent size. C) the big white dogs are sweet and don’t bark or jump but they love to visit and hang out. So if you’re scared of dogs, understand that they will come visit and say hi. We enjoyed ourselves very much and look forward to returning

Beautiful site out near the Pecos River. Relax while listening to the river flow down through the valley. Rest under the large ponderosa and Aspen groves.
