The host was great! He was very accommodating and responsive. The photo directions were beneficial because this camp spot is remote. The dark sky and stars are incredible.
We went during a heatwave, and I was not prepared for the amount of bugs. There was an abundance of Mormon crickets, mosquitos, scorpions, and scorpion spiders out roaming. I have a kid who LOVES bugs, so he had a great time; me… not so much. There is zero shade, so be prepared with a shade structure in the summer. The road on the way in was rutted out and was covered in fine moon dust, drive slowly and carefully, or you might get stuck.

John was a great host, instructions on how to get there were very clear and he was very responsive. The site was beautiful and we had a great time camping there. Just make sure you bring bug spray!!!

Desert solitude, dark night sky

This Hipcamp is basically a very large area (100+ acres) in the compacted sandy bottom of an effluvial flow. All sites are level w/ unconstricted access. Wide, flat plane is surrounded in the far distance by beautiful bluffs and mountains. Great sunrises and sunsets ... unbelievable night sky. There is no shade, no trees ... just desert shrubs. The 9 mile drive into the property from I-80 can be a bit tricky but John provides coordinates and pictorial directions. It would be a great help to have mileages between markers to assist with navigation both into and out of the property.
If you are looking for solitude ... this is it. You definitely need 4 WD to get into the property ... no rocks but some rather deep ruts from prior rainfalls.
We spent 2 nights for the solar eclipse. John was on site and was a tremendous help and gracious host. Half our enjoyment was interacting with him and the few other campers on the property. Next closest camper was probably 100 yds away.
Definitely recommend you bring mountain bikes so you can more easily explore the full extent of this property.

Definitely a remote area so be prepared! John was very clear with directions and his communication was on point. I'll be sure to stay next time I'm passing through Nevada again.

This is a beautiful high desert camp. It's well worth the dirt road drive and patience to arrive at camp. There lots of space between sites, we couldn't hear our neighbor's generator! Miles of hiking, quiet, sun, night sky. A great camp for those who are self-contained outdoor enthusiasts.

Perfect spot, so wide open, plenty of space to wander. I was there for the annular eclipse and John made sure all his HipCampers were more than welcome. I wish I could have spent more time there, but had to run. John has a vision and he’s going to get it done. He’s a great host with a great attitude and super friendly! It’s like we were reunited friends from the past, and that’s how he treats all his guests. Would definitely recommend and will be back when I’m in the area.

A semi rollover caused an interstate closure that prevented me from making it to the campsite so I can’t review the location. But I can tell you that John was extremely friendly during entire process and understanding when I was prevented from getting there. The directions sent beforehand were very clear and detailed also. I wouldn’t hesitate to book another stay in the future.

Drove out to camp for the eclipse, and it was the perfect place! John gave very detailed instructions on how to get to the site (complete with signage and photos). On this occasion, he was present and showed me where my site was at, though he can't be there every visit from what I gathered. He was very kind and welcoming!
The views of the surrounding desert, mountains, and, at night, stars are awesome, and the old riverbed site was spacious and flat. There's a power plant somewhat nearby, but besides a steady hum its pretty unobtrusive and didn't bother me at all.
The drive in was just fine with my 2014 Subaru Forester on all terrain tires. Expect the road to be sandy, rough, and gouged, but I never got stuck or bottomed out despite only having 6 inch ground clearance.
The site is mostly just spots to park your car and/or pitch a tent currently (as expected), but John said he has plans to add in more amenities over time, which I look forwards to.

Great spot! Super quiet. I had a nice night camping under the stars :) John responded quickly to my questions and gave me clear and detailed directions to the site. Overall an enjoyable experience!

This campsite requires serious 4 wheel drive. We came after a serious ran and couldn’t make it to the campsite we kept getting stuck in the mud. It takes a while to get to the site and it’s along unmarked cow trails.
