April '24 has gotten a lot added already with more on the way. The first of many Hitching Posts (by request from guests) has been added to Site B02 along with a grill. Site B03 now has a more additions coming. Better signage. Approximate distances (again suggested by guests) with pictures will be sent once booked. I hope everyone is ready for a CampTastic 2024 🤠 WOW, what a turn out for the Annular Solar Eclipse. All my guests were extremely wonderful people. We had a blast talking story. The great vibes we all put out actually gave us a perfect window to view the main event unfettered. The clouds parted and gave us the entire 5 plus minutes to view the full RING OF FIRE. I'm hopeful our guests will post some of their gorgeous photos captured. Antelope Run Ranch spans over 40 acres and currently offers four different sites for accommodation. There are three operational campsites that receive regular monthly improvements. The cabin site is currently unavailable for rent, as a composting outhouse and shower room are in the planning stages. The property features an old dry river bed running through the center of the property. A potable water system is pending installation on-site; guests are advised to bring their own water until then. Waste disposal services are not yet available, so guests are requested to make alternative arrangements for their waste. Each of our Camp Sites alone provide you with so much space, not including the vastness of the Ranch itself, but also the multitude of BLM land to explore. Eventually every "Dispersed" Site will have a central location for all guests or groups of friends to congregate...Get together and cook, eat and just relax and enjoy each others company, while allowing those in the party to be able to slink away to the comfort and quiet of their own Travel Trailer or RV. The Antelope Run Ranch is a gateway to adventure, catering to those with an adventurous spirit. Whether you enjoy star gazing, rock hounding, hiking, hunting, or simply exploring the sandy landscape, the ranch offers a range of experiences. The Pumpernickel Valley's vast openness provides a serene environment. Any 4x4 vehicle is welcome and required, as the sand can be soft. Feel free to bring your sand toys and embrace the countless opportunities for exploration in the valley. During the day, you can bask under the clear skies and remember to apply sunblock. At night, bring firewood and warm blankets to appreciate the experience fully. Guests can reach the nearby Humboldt River via UTV, ATV, or other desert-running vehicles to the south and west of the property. While mountains surround the area, the immediate surroundings are perfect for exploration. If you forget something, the city of Battle Mountain can be found to the east on I-80. Pack your adventurous spirit and escape from it all at Antelope Run Ranch. A small cabin labeled A01 (currently on pause for upgrades with others on the drawing board) is situated on the northeast corner of the property, offering accommodation for two people. The cabin includes a small wood burner and a skylight, primarily serving as a base camp for hunting. On the southwest corner, site B01 is equipped with a picnic table, bench, fire pit, and BBQ, providing a comfortable, relaxing spot. This site is located adjacent to 1,292 acres of Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land on the west side, and the entire valley is filled with BLM land for exploration. Access to the property involves traveling dirt roads and soft sand, so no matter what type of vehicle, or RV you have, it needs to be four wheel drive. Once past the power plant, you'll leave the black top, which ends around six miles away from the property (detailed pictures for waypoints will be provided a day or two before your arrival date). If you plan on bringing trailers or camping equipment, be prepared for soft sand throughout the area, again 4x4 is a must. Once you've made your reservation and received the coordinates, get ready for an authentic getaway experience. Embrace the isolation and admire the clear night skies of Pumpernickel Valley, a genuine escape nestled between Battle Mountain and Winnemucca, Nevada, north of the I-80. Signage has been installed to provide a much easier path to the Antelope Run Ranch as of 23 July 2023 As of May 22, 2023, a solar-powered cellular security camera has been installed on the northeast corner, providing a view looking southwest, approximately 300 feet behind Cabin A01. Upon booking, you'll be provided access to check it out if requested. The first few trees (tiny for now) have been planted on the property, with more to come. The establishment of potable water for guests and tree watering is in progress. At Antelope Run Ranch, you can set up your tent, RV, camper trailer, overland rig, or stay in a cabin for an additional fee. Get ready, our next addition will be Hitching Posts, we've had a few requests, so we will position at least one at each Site, and multiple throughout the area. So ready the Horses, let the exploration begin. Please note that the ranch is located in a high desert environment, and temperature swings between day and night can be significant. Guests are advised to be mindful of the surrounding nature, including snakes, scorpions, mosquitoes, coyotes, and other wildlife that roam the land. If the need arises and I am unable to assist you in any way, I do have a few buddies in the area that may be of assistance. Please reach out for directions from me once booked, Google and Apple maps have been unreliable as of recent. I have directions and pictures to share once booked. May 17 2025...Okay, pergola is going up and almost complete...this will be the first of many going up around the property to provide some much needed shade. One more trip with lumber should do it for this pergola. Alright, a grill and the first of many Hitching Posts has been added to this Site...Yay 😄 These "Dispersed" Sites, can either be shared with strangers, yet still have your own area or accommodate groups of friends that all want to bring their own Travel Trailer or 4WD RV, have a common area to gather, but be able to be away from the others if wanted. Yes, this B02 Camp is that large. Just look at the pictures to get an idea of how spread out just one camp site can be. The spots for your set-up are one of three areas... Slip 1 is a pull through, Slip 2 is a pull/back in and Slip 3 is a pull through with a hitching post (by request) for you horse people. Located on the Northwest side of the property, with the 1200+ acres of Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land to the immediate West. Camp B02 has a new fire pit and cement bench presently, with the addition two wooden picnic tables put in place Oct. 8th, and BBQ grill recently added. Once booked, detailed pictures and instructions will be sent a day or two before arrival. I will assign slipsaccording to vehicle/trailer type. If you have a preference please let me know ASAP. These "Dispersed" Sites, can either be shared with strangers, yet still have your own area or accommodate groups of friends that all want to bring their own Travel Trailer or 4WD RV, have a common area to gather, but be able to be away from the others if wanted. Yes, this B01 Camp is that large. Just look at the pictures to get an idea of how spread out just one camp site can be. Site B01, slip 3 is uniquely designed for the true 4x4 camper, RV class B/B+ or overland rig. it is elevated slightly, with an amazing panoramic view of Pumpernickel valley. There is Slip 1 which is a pull through or back in/pull in, Slip 2 which is a pull/back in and Slip 3 which is a pull through parking/camping area for vehicles. The picnic bench and such is roughly in the center of the three slips. Once booked, a day or two before arrival, detailed pictures and instructions will be sent. I will assign the proper slip according to vehicle/trailer type. If you have a preference please let me know. Yes, this B02 Camp is that large. Just look at the pictures to get an idea of how spread out just one camp site can be. There are Six Slips here at Camp Site B03. Located at the Southeast corner. This spot is located literally on the old riverbed...bring the hiking shoes, ATVs, binoculars and even that telescope for the clear skies star gazing. Once booked, detailed pictures and instructions will be sent a day or two before your scheduled arrival. Signage has been installed to help in the navigation to the property as well as clearly mark Camp Site. 4x4 Required Improvements are here this year...April '24. We've added a picnic table in the common area centrally located amongst the six sites. Please ask questions before booking.

Dark Skies-Moon Dust-Giant Bugs

The host was great! He was very accommodating and responsive. The photo directions were beneficial because this camp spot is remote. The dark sky and stars are incredible. We went during a heatwave, and I was not prepared for the amount of bugs. There was an abundance of Mormon crickets, mosquitos, scorpions, and scorpion spiders out roaming. I have a kid who LOVES bugs, so he had a great time; me… not so much. There is zero shade, so be prepared with a shade structure in the summer. The road on the way in was rutted out and was covered in fine moon dust, drive slowly and carefully, or you might get stuck.

John was a great host, instructions on how to get there were very clear and he was very responsive. The site was beautiful and we had a great time camping there. Just make sure you bring bug spray!!!

Desert solitude, dark night sky

This Hipcamp is basically a very large area (100+ acres) in the compacted sandy bottom of an effluvial flow. All sites are level w/ unconstricted access. Wide, flat plane is surrounded in the far distance by beautiful bluffs and mountains. Great sunrises and sunsets ... unbelievable night sky. There is no shade, no trees ... just desert shrubs. The 9 mile drive into the property from I-80 can be a bit tricky but John provides coordinates and pictorial directions. It would be a great help to have mileages between markers to assist with navigation both into and out of the property. If you are looking for solitude ... this is it. You definitely need 4 WD to get into the property ... no rocks but some rather deep ruts from prior rainfalls. We spent 2 nights for the solar eclipse. John was on site and was a tremendous help and gracious host. Half our enjoyment was interacting with him and the few other campers on the property. Next closest camper was probably 100 yds away. Definitely recommend you bring mountain bikes so you can more easily explore the full extent of this property.

Definitely a remote area so be prepared! John was very clear with directions and his communication was on point. I'll be sure to stay next time I'm passing through Nevada again.

This is a beautiful high desert camp. It's well worth the dirt road drive and patience to arrive at camp. There lots of space between sites, we couldn't hear our neighbor's generator! Miles of hiking, quiet, sun, night sky. A great camp for those who are self-contained outdoor enthusiasts.

Perfect spot, so wide open, plenty of space to wander. I was there for the annular eclipse and John made sure all his HipCampers were more than welcome. I wish I could have spent more time there, but had to run. John has a vision and he’s going to get it done. He’s a great host with a great attitude and super friendly! It’s like we were reunited friends from the past, and that’s how he treats all his guests. Would definitely recommend and will be back when I’m in the area.

A semi rollover caused an interstate closure that prevented me from making it to the campsite so I can’t review the location. But I can tell you that John was extremely friendly during entire process and understanding when I was prevented from getting there. The directions sent beforehand were very clear and detailed also. I wouldn’t hesitate to book another stay in the future.

Excellent spot to pitch a tent!

Drove out to camp for the eclipse, and it was the perfect place! John gave very detailed instructions on how to get to the site (complete with signage and photos). On this occasion, he was present and showed me where my site was at, though he can't be there every visit from what I gathered. He was very kind and welcoming! The views of the surrounding desert, mountains, and, at night, stars are awesome, and the old riverbed site was spacious and flat. There's a power plant somewhat nearby, but besides a steady hum its pretty unobtrusive and didn't bother me at all. The drive in was just fine with my 2014 Subaru Forester on all terrain tires. Expect the road to be sandy, rough, and gouged, but I never got stuck or bottomed out despite only having 6 inch ground clearance. The site is mostly just spots to park your car and/or pitch a tent currently (as expected), but John said he has plans to add in more amenities over time, which I look forwards to.

Great spot!

Great spot! Super quiet. I had a nice night camping under the stars :) John responded quickly to my questions and gave me clear and detailed directions to the site. Overall an enjoyable experience!

Mixed feelings

This campsite requires serious 4 wheel drive. We came after a serious ran and couldn’t make it to the campsite we kept getting stuck in the mud. It takes a while to get to the site and it’s along unmarked cow trails.
