Established in 1976, the dam at Maskenthine Lake plays a crucial role in flood control for the nearby town of Stanton, located just one and a half miles south of the lake. The lake is renowned for its excellent fishing opportunities, regularly stocked by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, making it a favorite among local anglers. Visitors can enjoy a wide range of recreational activities, including hunting, boating, picnicking, hiking, camping, and swimming. An arboretum on the east side of the lake adds to the area's natural beauty, complemented by thoughtfully placed tree plantings and windbreaks throughout the landscape.
