Walter provided a beautiful campsite equip with firewood, a gorgeous view, and a perfect place to pitch a tent. By far the best HipCamp site we have stayed at. Could not recommend this site enough.

The camp site was as advertised. Great directions. The camp area is spacious with great shade. Potable water from a spigot, so you don’t have to bring a heavy jug. There was a clean portable toilet/ outhouse at the parking area which is about 50 paces up hill from the picnic table and fire ring. I am 57 years old and was able to easily make it up and down the trail in my janky flip flops. We loved being so close to the river. Walter left us to our own adventure, but he was working on his construction projects on his place and was available if we needed him. It was a terrific camp space about 20 -30 minutes drive time from downtown Missoula through beautiful rolling hills. Walter had cut wood and fire starter on hand as well as tubes to float the river if you were so inclined. There was enough greenery around to keep dust down.

Campsite is a 100% cross between a category 4 Florida hurricane and the Hills Have Eyes. Campsite is nice, except it is adjacent to a large junkyard and 2 dilapidated homes. Walter, the proprietor, does not represent his campsite accurately. It is a canoe-only accessible site, not accessible from the road or by truck. You’d have to hump your gear up and down a 30 foot steeply inclined riverbank. I’m a disabled veteran, no way could I get my stuff up and down that riverbank. Walter, who looks like he lives outside and was mostly naked when he came up to us, refused to refund my money (we had reserved the site :45 minutes earlier). He doubled down on my kids who were grossed out by his nakedness and the utterly awful condition of his property. Campers beware. Sgt. Veit, USMC

Willow point is on the shore of the river, a great place to camp and relax. Felt very similar to being at a state park campground walk-in campsite- without other sites around. The sunset view was a highlight. Walter is a great host, we had everything we needed.

Beautiful property and campsite! Plenty of space and privacy, with amazing river access. A little bit of highway noise at night but not bad. Very convenient being so close to town. Hope to stay here again.

We really appreciated Walter sharing his space with our family. It had everything you need for a relaxing and enjoyable time: picnic table, hammock, tubes for floating the river, a clean porta-potty, chairs to sit back and enjoy the scenery, and a prep table with a spicket. Our family especially enjoyed splashing and paddling about the river. Walt was a very considerate and inviting host. Would highly recommend and hope to come back.

One of the best campsites we have ever stayed at! Our personal favorite time was sitting and watching the sunset listening to the birds and drinking tea(: this was our first time spending time in Missoula and we were so happy with our stay! We will be back again!

We had a such a lovely time tent camping on Walter’s land! It is right on the Bitterroot River and there is a well water spigot on site, a campfire ring, a picnic table, and a (very clean!) porta potty. A few things to be aware of—the parking area and the porta potty are a little ways uphill from the actual camping site, so be prepared to schlep your gear (though still very manageable!) and make sure to bring bug spray. Would definitely recommend this spot!!

My friends and I absolutely LOVED camping at Willow Point! We were greeted by the friendliest host - Walter - and provided with everything we needed. The site even came equipped with tubes for us to float! The site was beautiful, serene, clean and welcoming. I would definitely recommend Willow Point to anyone camping in the Missoula area.

Walter's site was a literal dream come true. The proximity to the legendary trout Bitterroot River is unparalleled. We went during a heatwave & the timing couldn't have been better. All day long we laid in the hammock, on the shore, or on one of the small sandbars in the middle of the river, watching the happy families float down the river, one by one. The biodiversity is crazy here. So many deer walking around, fish in the water, evidence of beavers running around. All in all, stunningly beautiful, tremendously tranquil & supremely sublime. Also, the outskirts of Missoula are 10 mins away by car, so if you need ice or anything, it is a short trip away. But when you near the campsite, all the world melts away into the magical river. The tent site is soft, the grass is wonderful & the place is totally pet friendly. Our dog couldn't stop digging for rocks in the soft sand of the river! Make sure you bring a fly rod because this is a truly magical place!

Amazingly clean and beautiful site. Host was amazing, the outhouse toilet was super clean. The road driving down was amazing as the sun was setting with wildlife everywhere around us. We had a couple nice fires, and stayed in our tent while it rained a bit. River was cold, but worth jumping in when it’s hot.

Walter was so friendly and welcoming! The camp is GORGEOUS, the pictures really don’t do it justice. Walter had freshly cut fire wood ready for us. Would come back in a second!

The spot was so beautiful! Walter was very kind, helping us get parked at Willow Point and giving us a heads up about wild horses in the neighborhood. We also saw lots of wild turkeys!
Note that the hill down to the beautiful willow point is not accessible by vehicle, so to set up camp near the water you'll be carrying things down and back up.
However, it worked really well for us to keep the camp kitchen up above at the tailgate and just bring the tent down. It's a gorgeous place.

Great location, just outside of Missoula. The campsite itself is down a bit of a hill, which was not an issue for us at all.
Just wished we had more time to spend the day in the water.
A lot of thoughtful touches by the host and easy to communicate with.

The drive down to Walter's property was beautiful. Walter was very kind, flexible, and responsive as I approached my arrival time and was running late.
The river was great to soak your feet in and the scenery was fantastic. The campsite where I placed my tent was flat and clean. There are two chairs you can sit in too by the water. The spigot was a good water source and the site had everything I needed. My stay was wonderful and I loved the spot.
A couple of things to be mindful of:
1) You can't drive your car down to where you pitch your tent but it is not far away (60 feet downhill on a dirt path and another 60 feet after?)
2) You can hear the freeway more than the waterway but it is a constant white noise that isn't bad. I slept well but don't expect complete silence with just the sound of a babbling creek.
Highly recommended stay close to Missoula!

Walter's spot on the Bitterroot River is just beautiful. After a lot of car camping at National Forest campgrounds, this place felt really private and special. It is fairly close to town--a few planes landing at night, dogs barking in the distance--though it feels really magical. We'd stay again for sure.

What a great spot! We spent two nights at Willow Point and it was amazing. We had everything we needed - running water, a picnic table, a fire ring - and plenty of space to spread out. It's a little private slice of the river. So peaceful, and a quick jump to get into town.
