We really enjoyed ourselves at this location. We were right on the river and wild horses came regularly. I don’t wanna be critical of this property as Birdie was absolutely amazing. I think that it is marketed towards tenting, but our little trailer was perfect because it had its own bathroom. However, the road Inn is very bumpy and could benefit from a little bit of gravel to fill in the big ruts. If this was done, I think it would be a great location for Small and closed campers to take advantage of this.
Birdie is a very considerate host. But what makes this site wonderful is the location. You are camping in the midst of a place that played a significant role in shaping our nation's history. It was a privilege to camp here and I am thankful that I was allowed to stay on this hallowed ground.
We knew from other reviews that there were some limitations with this site, but there aren't many places to camp near Crow Fair, and we don't like KOA type venues. Unfortunately, this site had only one functioning porta potty, and another camper warned us not to go in it, as it was pretty disgusting. We were woken up 3 times after midnight by loud campers coming in I presume after the end of Crow Fair - so there were no "quiet hour" restrictions, or if there were, they were not enforced. For the price we paid (over $60 with fees), I expected more - at least a decent place to go to the bathroom.

I loved tent camping here! The sunrise was absolutely beautiful and I loved learning about the history of the location. Beautiful!
We loved staying here! The grass was mowed, the restroom was clean, and Birdie was a very friendly and gracious host, making sure we had everything we needed. We loved swimming in the river and seeing the horses come to the water each evening.
This campsite is wonderful! We woke up beside the river with the sun rising and a small group of wild horses coming over the embankment to drink. It was magical! It was rustic and if it storms getting back to the main road can be a bit difficult, but I recommend this site highly!!
I enjoyed my stay. I hammock camped on the Little Big Horn River. I was visited by wild horses a few times a day. Birdie was a wonderful host. I recommend and will plan to visit again.

Didn’t get to stay there despite our reservation so can’t accurately review. Would have loved to camo there but a family emergency prevented us from getting there.
Would highly recommend a stay at this wonderful spot on the Little Bighorn River. What a special place - the history behind this campsite is both sobering and incredibly spiritual. Thank you, Birdie, for sharing this land!
I love in nature and to live with nature. It’s beautiful there, I loved to wash myself off in the river, and be self sufficient when it comes to my own needs. I loved the friendliness of the real bird family. Very caring.
By far the best Hipcamp experience I’ve had. Birdie went above and beyond for my partner and I. Highly recommend staying with the Real Birds.

Very tranquil and historic place to stay, I would stay there again.
My wife and I enjoyed our time at Medicine Tail Coulee. Though we were not fortunate enough to meet with the host, we had a really great time. This IS a working farm and so you have to accept that. The site was very large and quiet, it was really nice to have the horses come through camp (enjoyed watching them) and the cows nearby. There was a Peyote ceremony going on that weekend, and it was interesting to hear.
This area has its place in history and it was really powerful to feel. It was also amazing to learn about its people and their struggles even today.
Highly recommended especially for history buffs.
If you a history buff, this is the place for you. Located on the banks of the Little Bighorn River you will camping on the spot where Native Americans camped during the battle. There are no “ designated campsites “ , just find a spot off the dirt road. We have a 26 ft travel trailer and had no problem getting into a spot. It’s serenely beautiful and quiet. The second night we were there the Native Americans held a Peyote’ ceremony, they drummed all through the night until dawn. It was a magical night! I look forward to returning in the future. One of my favorite places.

This spot was difficult to find. We weren’t sure we were in the right place and our cars barely had enough clearance to get further down the dirt road. We ran out of service on the road and weren’t able to contact the host until we had turned around. When we finally arrived the mosquitos were numerous and massive, the “out house” was a wooden box, and there was no clear space for us to set up our tent. We ended up driving to Wyoming and staying at a different campsite.
What a cool place to stay - on the Little Bighorn River where thousands of indigenous peoples were encamped prior to Custer's attack. Just across the river is land where the battle was fought. Birdie was welcoming and very informative. Our second night we were treated to a small cattle drive (about 8) going straight through our campsite! You can't find that everywhere :)
Keep in mind that this is active farm land, so watch your step! My only ding is the ground is not very flat - ruts all over the place, so driving and parking is a bit tricky.
A couple of lovely places to pitch a tent by a flowing stream. Horses wandering around, quite placid and lovely. The night sky was gorgeous and the location is historic. But it’s a rather rustic site with no potable water, a quite full port-a-potty, and lots of horse manure everywhere. I grew up around horses but some might not love that.

The location is convenient and the view is beautiful. Definitely recommend stopping at the trading post by the battlefield for an Indian taco.

Medicine Tail Coulee Camp
Camping at the Medicine Tail Coulee ford was a highlight if not the highlight of our Virginia-to-Oregon road trip. Amazing moon rise, unforgettable sunrise, the sound of the Little Bighorn in the background… we literally sat at the site all day and all night. It is absolutely unique. Grateful for the experience.

Beautiful location. Hosts were very helpful with our late arrival.
This property was beautiful. We camped by the river. In the morning cattle came to the river, & it was a joy to watch the mommies & babies. Birdie was gracious & informative. The privy was near by, so we didn’t have to break out our portable potty. We would definitely stay here again!
This place was absolutely amazing! The location was great! The history was awesome! By far though, the highlight was meeting Birdie! She made us feel right at home. I can’t wait to go back!

Birdie was a wonderful host. The site on Medicine Tail Coulee saw a lot of history in the Battle of the Greasy Grass or Battle of Little Bighorn or Custer’s Last Stand however you call it. We were traveling around the west and decided to make our visit on the Summer Solstice and didn’t realized that also coincided with the re-enactment. We were staying near the soldier rather than the Sioux and Cheyenne unfortunately, but we got them drive a herd of horses across the river in the evening and the soldier crossed the river on horseback just after Dawn. Everything was great, if I find myself in the area again, I try to stay there again
Planning a cross country trip, this place stood out as a way to experience a slice of history in a very unique way. Unfortunately, about 300 miles away the weather reports turned against us and ultimately we missed the opportunity. The weather cooperated just enough for us to be able to go to the national monument and that only made it sting even more. That said, we tried our best as did the host. The booking experience with Birdie was really excellent and she was very understanding about the situation. Hope to be able to return someday.

I stayed for two nights. I loved it. The site was on the Little Bighorn River, where the Cheyenne had been camping when Custer attacked. The battlefield is a three minute drive. Birdie was a delightful host.
Incredible location to camp. Right on the bank of the Little Bighorn River at the mouth of Medicine Tail Coulee. This was the exact place where the Northern Cheyenne contingent of the Souix/Cheyenne camped the morning of June 25, 1876 when Gen. George Armstrong Custer and his troops attacked.
The ingress road is hard to find but we were met at the entrance by the hostess, Birdie, who showed us where to camp. She was very helpful and explained the layout of the site. There are horses and cows that occasionally pass through the area along with a couple of friendly local dogs. We greatly enjoyed our stay, particularly the peace and quiet of the location and the historical significance of the site. It only takes about 5 min to reach the Little Bighorn Battlefield from this location. The site has several porta potties but no picnic tables.
