I’ve Hipcamped in many places across the country any could honestly say, Clyde’s camp is my favourite. First off, the land is incredibly special, looking just beyond his green fields is Glacier National Park and the views were amazing!! But here’s what I’ll say about Clyde’s land, I felt something incredibly special being there. The second I stepped foot on the property. There’s just something about it I can’t explain. Clyde led me up to a beautiful perch overlooking his fields and hills and the aspens below. He shared with me that bears sometimes roam the hills and come down from the mountains, the cows would be in the upper pastures, and from time to time his dogs would come visit. I asked about his familial history there and he took time with me to share the story of these ancestral lands, lands his family owned for generations. He told me the names of the mountains inside Glacier (MadWolf) being my favorite, named after one of his ancestors. And he shared with me the ugly story behind white men taking nearly all of it from his tribe. I was a solo camper, white guy from the south, and here is Clyde “Going Forward” (his tribal name) allowing me the night in this beautiful place so that I might get to experience its beauty. Thanks a ton for everything Clyde, best night of camping I’ve had. And lastly, thank you for the book recommendation, I did pick up a copy inside the park as well as his follow up story about the great Rising Wolf of the Blackfeet! I will be back!
