The hosts are always great! I'm the evening and morning we could hear elk calling in the hillside next to where we stayed. Also there are deer that come into the camp spot. It's a very quiet place that my wife and I love and will come back to many more times!

Best Campsite Ever!

Smith Creek Ranch has to the most beautiful property we have ever stay on! The star-gazing was top tier and the wild life was so fun to hear (elk was bugling and chirping) and watch (there was tons of white-tail deer playing around). The site was super easy to find as well as the bathrooms on the property. Don really has done a great job with the place!

If you're looking for a safe space to enjoy the beauty of Montana this hip camp site is for you. Easy to find. Clean clear directions with camp host on sight should you have a question. We have a converted Van, having a clean bathroom option on sight is always a welcome bonus.

Donald’s ranch was a beautiful spot to park our van for the night! We walked the property after we arrived and set up camp in the Dark Skies campground spot. The creek was dry this time of year, but the night was beautiful. We awoke to deer, meadowlarks, and quail. So peaceful!

We loved Don’s land. Our dog could run around, we were the only campers on site. Beautiful sunrise and sunset. Electric hookup worked great. Just perfect.

Spacious with amazing views, fire pit, and good quality bathrooms! It’s quiet at night and there is a lot of wildlife to look at. Perfect for multiple people with enough flat spots for tents. Amazing Hipcamp!

We stayed at site 3 for the night as we were passing through the area. Donald and Christina’s land is beautiful! You are right in nature with views of the mountains. They provided a picnic table, fire pit and wood which was greatly appreciated.

Quiet Retreat

We stayed in site #1 in our 13' RV. The site had a picnic table, which was nice. There is potable water at a pump not far away. The bathroom also had a sink with running water (which was great for washing hands, but be aware it isn't potable water). Out was a very sunny spot so that was fantastic for our solar panel! There is also a shower tent, although we didn't use it.

The drive to Donald’s was enjoyable. Passing open farm pastures of Cattle, Bison, and Alpacas. Star gazing is a must. The bathrooms were roomy, and included a sink. Lots of space. Will return next year.

Tent camping in the Montana hills

This hipcamp was a truly lovely spot. I had site 3 at the far end of the tent space. I got to enjoy deer, elk, turkeys, quail & other wildlife. It is also centrally located near several trails & fishing spots. Bass Creek trail is amazing & great place to escape some of the heat on warm days. The hosts were kind and helpful without being intrusive. Definitely recommend this space

Repeat of a great stay

This was our second stay at Don’s camp. It’s a great location, easy to find, that puts us a pretty fast drive back to Missoula if we want but much closer to the hiking and outdoor things we like to do. It’s a very quiet setting with great amenities; potable water, large lighted bathrooms with running water for washing, garbage/ recycling etc. This time we stayed in Site 3 on the back end so had trees for shade, a quiet meadow behind to watch deer, beautiful mountain views, picnic table setup and an oversized fire pit with grate for cooking on. He even supplied firewood. It’s under 10 minutes to a large grocery if you forgot or run out of anything. Will definitely stay again.

I had a great stay at Don’s Hipcamp! The location was peaceful and quiet, exactly what I was looking for. The views were absolutely beautiful — a perfect spot to relax and unwind. Don was a great host, and everything was easy and as described. I really enjoyed my time there and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet escape in nature.

My first Hipcamp experience and I couldn't have asked for a better stay. The hosts are friendly and helpful. The ranch is so beautiful and the campsite offered peace and tranquility. The night skies, birds, and deer were delightful. I highly recommend this place!

Camping with deer!

This was a nice quiet spot to rest between 2 serious travel days. Immediately saw deer and quail around the area. We were welcomed and felt comfortable. My son called the toilet a ‘glam pot.’ Everything was clean. Looks like a great spot to have a private party or a wedding. A bit off the road but that’s what makes it quiet. We would definitely stay again if our road trip took us this way.

This is our second time staying here, on our way home from white water rafting. This time we stayed in the canvas glamping tent. It was comfortable and perfect for our family of four. It’s quiet, not too far off the highway, but you feel very far away. The view in the morning of the mountains is spectacular. We look forward to stopping in again next year!
