Big Hole Boondockin' is located in Southwest Montana along the beautiful banks of the Big Hole River. River View Livestock, a 300 acre working cattle ranch, surrounds our camping areas which gives you the opportunity to enjoy a real Montana ranch experience. If you're not into the ranch lifestyle, hop on a raft, inner tube or kayak and float down the river enjoying a cold beverage. We also offer bank fishing on our private property. Stressed? Book some time with our emotional support animals and snuggle one of the pigs or cows to take some stress out of your life. These animals are part of our family and love to sit and relax with humans, begging for belly scratches and giving kisses. The cell service & wi-fi are very iffy here. T-Mobile works great. If you have Verizon or AT&T you will not have service right at the campsite. You may have to walk or drive a bit to get a signal or the local restaurant & bar has free wi-fi for patrons. Whatever your camping dream is, our focused, friendly staff will work to achieve it. We look forward to hosting you and your family and friends and sharing our day to day dream life.

This grain silo has been converted into a beautiful cabin. The bottom floor includes a futon, which will comfortably fit one adult or two kids, a unique dining bar and small kitchen area. The loft has a very comfortable queen size bed. Step out onto the deck & sip your morning coffee while watching the fish jump in the river and the eagles soar overhead. You may even get a visit by our dwarf pig, Rosebud, or her mama, Ruby. Both girls are very friendly & love marshmallows & Cheerios. The days here are made for fishing & you can do that right out your front door, literally. Have a boat? Enjoy the boat launch right on the property. There’s nothing like a Montana evening. Enjoy the sky full of stars while snuggled up in a nice blanket by the campfire. If you’re lucky, the northern lights may even make an appearance. This is Montana “roughing it” meaning you will have a port-a-potty and access to showers at a nearby local campground.

We loved the green tractor for pics! Waking up to the beautiful stream sounds was lovely. Holly is very communicative and helpful. The property is beautiful although I wasn’t sure where the property lines were so I hope I didn’t intrude on someone’s land. We missed the pigs though.

This was an amazing camping experience. We were the only campers so had the whole grassy area to ourselves. It is right on the river and there are a few other public river access spots nearby so we checked out all of them. We biked up the mountain and around town as well — there is a school playground a block or two away that my kids (ages 4-9) liked. The spot is at the end of a small town (Melrose)—so not in the middle of nowhere, just FYI. The piggies were the best part! They’re such funny creatures and we enjoyed getting to know them. Holly is such a nice person and obviously cares about her guests and pets! Definitely recommend.

This was an awesome spot to get away with the family. Holly was a great host and her property is top notch. Easy access to fishing and lots of activities, plus a great treat getting to visit the pigs. We had excellent cell service at the site and the town of Melrose had a few food options when cooking wasn't in the cardmla. Definitely recommend!!

This was great! I personally fly fish more than I should, and my wife is an animal lover! The best of both worlds! I’m surprised my wife didn’t try to steal a pig! Holly, the host, and her entire family were welcoming, friendly and fun to chat with! This spot is perfect! Highly recommend you stay in the Silo! As this is almost and exact half way point for a trip that we make often, we definitely will be coming back!

I had a great night camping on Holly’s land! The mountain views were gorgeous! I especially loved the tour of Holly’s pig farm - I learned so much, and the pigs were absolutely adorable. As a woman traveling alone, I felt very safe camping there. I wish I could have stayed longer!

There’s not a more lovely space to camp. If you are seeking a place to sleep, comfort, or a place to spiritually heal, this is the place. Feet from the river, you can be lulled to sleep by its gentle babbling. At night, you can see thousands of stars. If you enjoy birds as I do, then you will be thrilled as I saw approximately 30 different types of birds in a three hour time span. Do take a tour of the barnyard, as the pigs are absolutely delightful.

Holly was an amazing host! Stunning views of the Big Hole River - sites right on the river’s edge. Appreciated the very clean porta-potty. 30 minute drive to Dillon for full services (grocery stores, reasonable gas). The Hitching Post in Melrose sells ice and serves great food and beverages and is within walking distance. Within reasonable driving distance to see the sites - Bannack State Park ghost town, explore the hills along Trapper Creek Road with its old buildings and scenic views, Beaverhead Rock and Virginia City.

Enjoyed our stay. Beautiful place. Scheduled as a one night stop on the way... had I know how peaceful and beautiful it was would have stayed longer. Next time I am this way will be staying longer.

There were some issues with the Porta Potty which the host said would be addressed. Host was very pleasant...This is beautiful and don't forget, rural country, the town small and inviting, especially the restaurant and fly shop. We were the only people on this land and am not sure how close the other sites were located. It was quite and the evening sound of the river was an extremely pleasant sound. Mornings were light rain and the sound of Sandpiper cranes.

I stayed one night here and wished I could have stayed longer. The spot was right next to the river. It was quiet and peaceful. The owners are amazing and kind. I of course, could not pass down the opportunity to meet the piggies! This sweet sanctuary was the perfect stop on my road trip. I am really looking forward to coming back to spend more time there.

This is a gorgeous spot on a beautiful ranch! It’s so peaceful, right on the river where deer come through. I saw these giant cranes, and there’s a moose that lives nearby too. The host and family live across the street from the ranch and are absolutely amazing! They have a pig rescue/sanctuary, and the pigs are so cute and you get to pet and play with them. I met the ranch-hands there who are super incredibly nice. If you’re lucky enough to be there when Holly makes too much caprese, you’re in for a treat! :) You are in your own world at the camp spot itself unless there is another hipcamper. This hipcamp is a true gem. I can’t say enough about how pretty and peaceful it is, and how great the host family is!

The site itself is beautiful. We were right on the river. Road noise was not an issue especially with the river so close. Very relaxing. Highly recommend the Hitching Post restaurant near by for food. We spent most our time fishing so sunrise fly shop is very helpful and very close. Lots of options nearby for fishing other than the big hole should you want. We also did gem mining at GEM mountain and digging for crystals at crystal park. Easy to look up. Holy was an excellent host. Could not ask for a better experience.

This was a lovely spot to camp along a river with a beautiful star-filled sky above. The owners are efficient and helpful, without being intrusive. They ensured I had clear directions to the campsite and checked on me to make sure there wasn't anything I needed. There was a fire ring with wood provided and plenty of room to set up camp. I camped alone in a smaller tent, but the site is very spacious. I would encourage anyone to stay on this lovely property.
