Doug and Brenda are retired from teaching at nearby public schools. Our Farm is now dedicated to boarding retired horses for their owners. We practice rotational grazing for the health of the horses and the health of our pastures. The horses live in a herd as they would in the wild. Basically, they are hanging out with their friends! They also get regular care and feed and so are VERY happy. You will see and probably interact with the horses if you wish. They are guaranteed to come closer if you have treats like carrots and apples slices. Our quiet county road used to be the main road along the river. A hundred years ago it was called "Shanty Road". The shacks that were along it housed workers that harvested food from farms in the river bottom. The only evidence of those shacks now is perrenial flowers growing in unusual places. The area is inhabited by professionals working in nearby towns and cities. In fact there are only five homes along our 1.5 mile section of Copps Chapel Road. The native Americans who used this area did so because of the great diversity of wildlife and availability of water. Also the view is amazing in all directions. Was using this ridge top encampment for security, or just because the view is so satisfying? The Missouri River is on the far side of the bottoms now, but has been very close historically. There is also a large spring flowing from a cave nearby. Witness the flint chips when you walk through our barn lot. You are likely to see a broken stone tool that was once worked on by a native American. These river hills are composed of soils blown in from the end of the last ice age. Being near the river, erosion has cut down the surrounding area making the scenic topography associated with Missouri River valleys and river hills.

Sleep in (or under) the biggest White Oak in Moniteau County. We currently allow only one party at a time at this premium location. You will be the only party to use the area during your stay. It is very private. The view is incredible and unobstructed. Sunrises and sunsets are beautiful. Ten minutes from I-70. Most campers set up under the tree and just hang out in the treehouse. However, some campers with a smaller tent choose to camp in the treehouse. The tree house is not a house until you put your tent on it. It is a deck that is well made and has solid guard rails. The location is over 300' from our residence and is very private. In spite of the remoteness, free high speed Wi-Fi (with no password) is available at the site. Cell phone service has been good for campers so far too. The view is amazing in ALL directions. Native Americans used this location heavily as evidenced by abundant stone artifacts. They were the original campers here. The best view is of the Missouri river bottoms. I'm sure this is why the Native Americans used this site. Wildlife is abundant. It is usually very quiet except for the frogs, birds, coyotes, and crickets. There is a water hydrant about 150' away. We have a full size, but not ADA, portable toilet at the barn.

Site 1 is considered to be our all-inclusive site. Site 1 is long enough to accommodate a long Class A pulling a car or long pull behind camper. It is a "close to level" site. There is room to disconnect if you want to explore the area by car. I highly recommend a two night stay to get the most out of your visit. This is our only site with 30 amp electric (except as noted for the dates above) and water guaranteed. It also has a fire pit and a small amount of wood can be provided at no extra cost. If you want power for AC, book this site early.

This is on an undeveloped but mowed grassy area. You will have access to the porta-pottie. You can use a shared hydrant for filling bottles, washing hands etc. You may find an empty electrical outlet where you can charge a device. Priority use for electric and water however goes to campers who are in a higher cost RV site. Site 7 is close to the horses and has great views. No extra services are promised. Ask shortly before arrival about upgrading your location. It may be possible to give you a more developed site if it is not close to another party.

This site is very cozy. You will have trees around you with your back to the woods . A walking trail into the woods is directly off of this site. This site has an excellent view to the SW. Guests frequently set up lawn chairs and gaze that direction. This site is shaded except for a period in the afternoon. There is no electric at this site. You will see this site on your right when you drive into the camping area. This is a back-in site for best orientation. If you have along rig, you may want to circle the camp area clockwise to position for backing into the site. It is relatively easy to back into this site.

Site 2 has been redone as of September 2023. Site 2 is now about 60’ (20meters) long. This site has the best view for seeing horses and spotting wildlife crossing the pastures. It has (20 amp) 110 volt electric and water available. The dedicated power outlet will run one air conditioner… but not all of your appliances simultaneously. You can orient your RV in either direction to get the best orientation for shade or sun. If you need 30 amp electric, get Site 1 instead.

No power or water is on-site. Site 4 is long enough accommodate a long Class A pulling a car or long pull- behind camper. It has a shade tree on the north side of the site. The shade tree is a good spot for a picnic table. It is a close to level site. Built in generators are allowed, but no stand alone generator please unless you can convince me that it is VERY quiet. It is important to STAY LEFT when entering the area. This will take you past a power pole. Then, circle clockwise into the site. If you do this, no backing is necessary.

My group of 6 and I had a great time this weekend at the Selby Farm, the hosts were unbelievably welcoming and stopped by to say hello and introduce us to their animals. They helped guide us to the camp site and explained all of the amenities on the site. We lucked out on beautiful weather as well, the farm and big treehouse campsite were so picture perfect and we couldn't have asked for a better weekend trip. The couple Doug and Brenda were wonderful and the farm hand also stopped by to visit and he was incredibly kinda and made great conversation! We absolutely will be coming back and recommending this site to everyone we know. Plenty of other awesome things from the site; so much firewood, lots of critters, the dogs are so sweet and even stopped by to visit for some pets couple times, the horses were beautiful, the porta potty was incredibly well kept (might be the only ports potty I've ever used that didn't smell bad!!), overall it was a great stay.

Selby horse farm was an enchanting experience. It is the type of place you stay and it gives food to your soul. The landscape is beautiful, the horses are a dream, and Doug, Brenda and Johnny were warm and kind. We walked the trails, saw the old bridge, walked through wildflowers to get the the river, and met one of the neighbors out walking her goats. Time moves slower here just as it should. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer.

We ended up staying at site 2 by mistake but appreciate Doug’s grace in letting us stay. All the sites are clearly marked so if you come at night just trust that yours is there somewhere! We got Doug’s permission to feed the horses chopped up apples and my city girl heart just sang. Sunset 10/10, star gazing 10/10. Port-a potty was there and I think I saw a fire pit at each spot and there was a ton of firewood when we were there. Johnny Fox was a very enjoyable ambassador and his friendliness was another big highlight of the trip!

Long & windy road from highway then after entrance another 1 mile gravel road with dust kicking up on a dry day. Camper and car ere covered with fine dust. campsite are very close to each other. I didn't find an on/off switch on the master electrical hookup box - so sparks will fly when you plug in. I did get a nice welcome message from the host the next day.

This was such a beautiful spot! Seriously…it was so quiet and peaceful. My dog and I loved car camping here. Unfortunately we arrived later at night and couldn’t the beauty in its entirety until the next morning, but we loved walking around and seeing the horses!

We loved it. We camped at the top of Big Oak tree for a new experience. That’s a very stable deck 6x10 foot I think. There’s a rope hanged to pull stuff to the top. Doug was very responsive, a great host. We had a warm welcome and he showed us everything around us make us a comfortable stay. We were so lucky to see milky-way and comet from the site (west sky), it was truly amazing. We had the chance to pet retired horses in the farm too. Highly recommend this stay for a unique experience.

I would, and have recommended camping here to some of our friends. But, it wouldn’t be for everyone. We personally really enjoyed our stay. The gravel campsite had access to electricity and water, and nice trails. The campsite was easy to find despite the confusing instructions on the Hipcamp site. We plan to go back sometime when we have time to enjoy the area and the horses.

Awesome little cozy private site. Practically zero noise, don't have to deal with highway noise or anything. Highly recommend for a unique and secluded getaway. The ladder to the tree platform is secured to the tree via rope as an extra precaution. I never felt unsafe trying to get gear up there. Hose and spigot is provided and is a 30 sec walk from the campsite .

I loved hearing a curious horse snort in the middle of the night. This was a perfect place to stop over and decompress after driving the interstate for miles and miles. I was stupid enough to follow my GPS and ended up having a nice drive down a long dirt road (in my 4x4, not with a camper!) that ended abruptly at a washed out bridge. So be sure to use the HipCamp google maps instead of your car GPS.
