Rustic Roots Sanctuary RV
Don’t let the surrounding area (drive in) deceive you. Once you arrive you will find a tranquil 7 acres with gardens, goats, chickens and cats. We had 23’ travel trailer and was easy to get in and out. Access to electric was easy and water was available (but we didn’t need it). The bathroom/shower was nicer than other park facilities. Thanks Janet! We used our time in St Louis to visit the Arch and take in a Cardinals game.

Janett and the whole Rustic Roots crew were incredibly welcoming and helpful! It is a working farm, and we were able to explore a bit before the sun set - such a lovely experience, and a funky place! The barn cats are sweet, the site has some tree cover for privacy, and we could pull right up to the site. The outhouse and amenities were some of the best I’ve seen from Hipcamp locations! If you’re passing through the area, it’s a must stay!

My friend and I were visiting St. Louis for a few days and Rustic Roots was the perfect stay! Close to the city, with the comfort of nature in a safe and welcoming environment. We especially loved the small kittens that were playing around the farm, and the shower was nicer than my own at home!

Rustic Roots Sanctuary
The Rustic Sanctuary is a lovely spot to stop at. The hostess, Janette, is very nice and willing to guide one to different places within the area. She told me of a wonderful "off the path" place to drive to and see the Missouri River and also where to go see the confluence of the Missouri and the Mississippi Rivers.
It was nice to return at night and settle into the peaceful environment Janette has created on her beautiful few organic acres.
There is a very nice bathhouse with plenty of privacy.
There is also a rooster who lets the world know he is awake, which I personally enjoyed. I like natures' rhythm accompanying alarm clocks.
I look forward to returning to the Rustic Sanctuary again.

Though I needed to cancel my trip, I found Janett so nice and very helpful that I am looking forward to staying there and meeting her in person in the future. This would have been my first time using Hipcamp and if all hosts are as nice as Janett was to me, I look forward to using other places listed on Hipcamp on further trips.

Absolutely loved the Rustic Roots property! Janett and Eric were great hosts and it was so great to have a “home base” spot outside of the city. The goats and farm cats were very friendly which was sweet! We also loved the bathhouse (as many of the other reviews suggest!) We would highly recommend this hipcamp site!

Rustic Roots Sanctuary RV
What an amazing, special place! We were there with extended family and had a blast. The kids ran free, pet the animals and just explored with total abandon. Like previous reviews stated, the bathroom is clean and quite impressive. The rv spot was great- just tucked up under some trees with plenty of room to spread out.
Loved talking with Janett and Eric- just fantastic people. We will definitely be back!!!

A safe and charming stay
We were passing through town and just needed a place to park our Subaru that we were camping in the back of. This place was adorable, seemed very safe, and the outdoor shower and bathroom was incredible. We loved all of the animals as well. Highly recommend this spot.

What a lovely evening! We stayed the night as we were in town for a concert in Maryland Heights - a quick 20 minute drive away.
We loved the barn cats, they were so affectionate. The chickens and goats were friendly too. Lots of frogs to spot in the pond. We made coffee this morning on a camp fire (very accessible good firewood!) and then walked the farm area looking at the watermelons and peppers growing, and the bee hives.
The grove was secluded and we were lulled to sleep by the sounds of crickets. The bathroom house was awesome - what a treat for a shower that is outdoors and covered!

Lovely quiet spot to park our little camper while visiting St. Louis. Really neat experience to wake up on a farm (chickens, goats, kittens and rows and rows of veggies and berries and some nice trees to boot). Very nice open air shower house with thoughtful amenities. Janett is lovely too!

City Farm great for Families
Host met us on arrival and introduced my girls to the numerous barnyard animals. The wagon was helpful to cart things back to our tent site, however I really wish there would have been a picnic table at the location. Even though our trip was cut short by rain, overall it was a great escape right inside the city.

Great Overnight Stay!
Exceeded our expectations! We actually got the pleasure of arriving during their Farmer’s Market! Our host was exceptional and made us feel very welcome with a roaring fire and entertainment!
The outdoor shower and bathroom facility was very clean and unique ! We had fresh eggs for breakfast and left with their local honey to enjoy during the rest of our journey!

A Night At Rustic Roots Sanctuary
Rustic Roots was our first stop in a 10 day road trip, and it was a great introduction to Hipcamp. The farm was easy to get to from the freeway, with a gas station/mini-mart right off the exit for last minute camp needs. We arrived later than we hoped, but were greeted by Janett who directed us to our campsite at the back of the property. She provided us a cart to truck all our gear to the site. We had two tents, and the site was level and large enough for both. We opted to not buy firewood, but I regret that decision and would definitely opt for the wood next time. The site was private and surrounded by brush and vines, leaving a nice view overhead of the night sky. Due to a recent rain we had some initial mosquito issues, but they remarkably vanished after dark and we had no further bug problems.
We had a nice quiet night, and woke to sounds of the animals on the farm. After making some coffee, we had a stroll around the property and toured the rather extensive and beautiful gardens on the property. We visited with the goats and chickens, being careful of the electric fencing. The many bee hives were active in the early morning, and we were able to get close and watch them coming and going.
After coffee we took turns at the really nice shower house, complete with composting toilet. The shower house was immaculate, with no smells or flies, and was very airy and bright. It was really well thought out for guests.
Then it was time to pack up and hit the road. Before leaving, we had a nice conversation with Janett and her partner about the farm. They were really friendly and took the time to answer our questions even though they were anxious to attend to the many chores on the farm.
Overall, a really wonderful place to spend the night. The hosts are obviously working very hard to create their own little urban Eden, and we're fortunate they choose to share the fruits of their labors by welcoming in travelers. Highly recommended!

Pleasant Stay
We arrived right at 2pm. Janett greeted us, and showed us where we could park/set up. She gave us a quick tour of the beautiful outdoor bathroom. I enjoyed walking the property to see the various veggies being grown. Loved petting the cats and goats. Chickens were cute too! I can't forget the dogs too! 😍 We met Eric the next day. He was very hospitable and shared their inspiring vision for the farm & sanctuary. They currently host yoga and a weekly farmers market. I would definitely return.

Family-friendly and near everything
Rustic Roots Sanctuary was a really awesome place to stay! The hosts couldn’t be any nicer. They were flexible on finding a spot to fit our needs. The composting toilet/ shower area is the best I have ever seen. We had visiting farm kittens and were near goats and chickens. If I had kids with me, I don’t think they would ever leave. We purchased fresh eggs, honey, and elderberry champagne for our meals. We enjoyed looking around the permaculture farm and gardens. It was close to anything else you wanted to do in St. Louis and yet felt like you were in the country. I would most definitely stay here again.
