Grand Army Farm is a family owned working farm. We raise beautiful angora goats for fiber and have chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys and meat goats. We serve local restaurants and participate in many local area farmers market. We pride ourselves in minimizing our carbon footprint, to the extent that we don't own any heavy piece of farm equipment, not even an ATV. The working portion of the game only accounts for 15 % of the land. What this means is that 85% of the wooded acres is available for you HipCampers to hike and explore. Of particular interest is the site of an old moonshine distillery hidden in the woods, a 20 min hike east of your campsite. Legends has it that the moonshine was illicitly produced during Prohibition and sold in the loft of our biggest barn where people would drink and dance the night away. The property boats of gorgeous mature oak trees, hickory trees and newer cedar stands where nature abounds. In the morning you may see the herons fly in or the Canadian geese come in. Me and my partner enjoyed our first camping experience together at Rosalie’s land it was very beautiful there and got to experience the full outdoor experience that we was looking for, we did catch and release fishing, Bonfire, pet all the animals, and explored the walking trails, Very nice people and definitely recommend anyone to go there to enjoy theirselves 🙂

We went for an evening getaway & were thrilled with the campsite. Just enough privacy & very peaceful, the trails were also fun to go explore. We were thankful the host let us know that the distillery that was mentioned, is incredibly hard to get to& past the fence. The host was very kind and we would definitely go back!

Rosalie was a great host. I went camping with my two older daughters - 6 and 8. We were very excited about camping on some actual farm land. Before we registered we asked about catch and release fishing on the lake that the campground resides on. Rosalie was more than happy to let us fish. We stayed at the camp site near where the ducks are housed as it was flat, plenty of room, and right on the lake. The sound of the farm was part of the experience and my girls loved the farm action that was taking place the entire time. After setting up camp we got some fire wood from Rosalie and she gave my girls some life lessons on living on a farm which was very educational. They even helped water some of the crops. Being on my own without my wife and youngest daughter I was worried about passing the time and keeping the girls entertained. Needless to say, with the educational experience, the great fishing, and the never ending farm action.. we didn’t cook dinner until late in the night and by then the girls were exhausted. We had a nice campfire at the end of the night, looked up at the stars that were not washed out by city lights and enjoyed the many sounds of nature. In the morning we got up, had another great fishing experience, cooked some breakfast, fished some more, and packed up to head back home. Before leaving we picked up a dozen chicken eggs that Rosalie sells on the farm. All in all I found this place to be one of the greatest hidden gems.

Camping with animals!

My husband and I had a great time staying lakeside at this farm. We are moving to the area in a few months and it was a convenient stay to explore the area and talking to the host was very helpful. It was fun to be surrounded by lots of animals: ducks, goats, dogs, and cats. They can be noisy but it really didn't bother us. It was calming to wake up and just watch to ducks swimming in the lake every morning. They also sell chicken and duck eggs. We didn't buy any this trip but since we are moving that way will definitely be back in the future for some!

What a great farm!

The hosts were very nice, and the farm was absolutely beautiful. My 4 year old daughter loved the animals and we loved the beautiful socks we bought. Our eggs are both beautiful and delicious.

My STL-area Campsite of Choice

Best campsite near STL. Best host, too. Buy their eggs. We cooked them up in a cast iron skillet for breakfast—delicious. They have other farm fresh items, too. Can’t say enough about the property and the privacy. Most relaxing place.

We had a great stay at Rosalie's spot!! We really loved all the animals -- I was especially charmed by the gray cat and goat #2111!!! Very pretty property and Rosalie was kind/accommodating. Potential campers should be aware that it is very farmy - there are lots of animals, we woke up to animal sounds, and there's quite a bit of goose poop. If you like farm animals, you'll love this place. If you don't, maybe look elsewhere. Definitely bring ear plugs.

Beautiful setting by a large pond. There isn't a lot of flat ground to pitch the tent, but ended up having a comfortable night.

Site was great. We had a really good time but host forgot that we were coming and wasn't at home. We had to figure out the setup and firewood for ourselves. Good experience overall.

This is a beautiful property with lots of animals to see and hear. The campsite had a beautiful view and just enough privacy for us. The hosts were welcoming and very kind.

Had a great time and Rosalie was a very sweet host. Lake and surrounding hills were spectacular and land was well kept. Be aware that there are animals at the farm and they are a bit noisy but also a really cool to addition to the experience because she has many amazing breeds of goats and fowl to look at. Perfect for animal lovers.

Beautiful and calm place to camp

If you are an animal lover, and enjoy a quite and peaceful time next to a beautiful lake, I would definitely recommend to stay at Rosalie’s estate. We had a wonderful time and Rosalie welcomes us with open arms, while showing us around and even some of the mushrooms she picks up on the premises. We had a beautiful stay!

A beautiful site with fully immersive sounds of nature and the farm. Both Rosalie and Frank were friendly, helpful hosts during both of our weekend stays. A little slice of hidden paradise in the hills.

Excellent site and the host was helpful and very nice. I will definitely come back here. One thing I would recommend is avoiding the spot right on the water if you don't like bugs.

We had a great time camping at Grand Army Farm. Rosalie was a great host, greeting us, providing us with directions to our site and extra firewood! The campsite was nice and shady, and right next to the pond.
